  • This essay reinterprets Joseph Conrad's The Heart of Darkness as satirical writing. In an experience-based fictional world, Conrad places imperial precursors who present themselves with a derogatory demeanor that stems from corrupt rapacity at its forefront. This rapacity is enabled by what European colonists believe to be a noble cause, regarded as a vehicle with which to enlighten African continent in his work. This essay reads this noble cause that allows such exorbitant and corrupt rapacity as a dominant element in the construction of Conrad's characters, particularly Kurtz, as objects of satire. Kurtz ends up beginning his calamitous descent into barbarism, mockingly quite opposite to what the colonial disciples misconceive themselves to be. In exhuming the satirical elements from the novel, this paper proves the significance of reading The Heart of Darkness as satire as an alternative reading to the racist book Chinua Achebe has accused it of.

  • For grippers of industrial robots, parallel grippers and multi-function finger grippers are used. The former has the advantage of low cost but has the disadvantage of low precision, and the latter has the advantage of excellent precision but has the disadvantage of being expensive. In this paper, we developed a grip that can detects the various shapes of the object to be gripped on the gripper surface by using mesured pressure information frome Veloset Sheet sensor so that the gripper can be gripped without deforming the surface of the gripper. Also we did not only developed the array type gripper and 4 array type grippers (ATG), but also confirmed the usefulness of array type gripper developed in this study according to the 4 predefined evaluation criteria

  • The paper presents the results of a study of radioactive noble gases and from decay products in the atmosphere of the reactor hall of the research nuclear reactor IVV-2M. The distribution of short-lived 88Rb and 138Cs activity by sizes of aerosol particles was measured in the range of 0.5-1000 nm. It is shown that radioactive aerosols are characterized by three main modes with AMTD 2-3 nm, 7-15 nm and 400 nm. About 70% of aerosol activity is due to 88Rb. The equilibrium factor between 88Kr and 88Rb is 0.2 ± 0.1. The total concentration of aerosols particles was measured using an aerosol diffusion spectrometer. The value of unattached fraction of radioactive aerosols in the atmosphere of reactor hall IVV2M was f = 0.15-0.25 at the average total aerosol particles concentration from 20,000 cm3 to 53,000 cm3.

  • Different weight percentages of Ag, Pt, and Au doped nano $TiO_2$ were synthesized using the acetic acid hydrolyzed sol-gel method. The crystallite phase, surface morphology combined with elemental composition and light absorption properties of the doped nano $TiO_2$ were comprehensively examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), $N_2$ sorption analysis, transmission electron microscopic (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray, and DRS UV-vis analysis. The doping of noble metals stabilized the anatase phase, without conversion to rutile phase. The formation of gold nano particles in Au doped nano $TiO_2$ was confirmed from the XRD patterns for gold. The specific surface area was found to be in the range 50 to 85 $m^2$/g. TEM images confirmed the formation a hexagonal plate like morphology of nano $TiO_2$. The photocatalytic activity of doped nano $TiO_2$ was evaluated using 4-chlorophenol as the model pollutant. Au doped (0.5 wt %) nano $TiO_2$ was found to exhibit higher photocatalytic activity than the other noble metal doped nano $TiO_2$, pure nano $TiO_2$ and commercial $TiO_2$ (Degussa P-25). This enhanced photocatalytic activity was due to the cathodic influence of gold in suppressing the electron-hole recombination during the reaction.
