Background: The chin shape and position is important in determining the general shape of the face, and augmentation genioplasty is performed alone or in combination with other aesthetic procedures. However, augmentation genioplasty using osteotomy is an invasive and complex procedure with the potential to damage mentalis muscle and mental nerve, to affect chin growth, and prolonged recovery. Our aim was to present our experience with a modified augmentation genioplasty procedure for hypoplastic chins using a Gore-Tex implant. Methods: Two vertical slit incisions were made at the canine level to create a supra-periosteal pocket between the incisions, preserving the periosteum and mentalis muscle. Minimal sub-periosteal dissection was performed lateral to the incisions along the mandibular border. The both wings of implant were inserted under the periosteum to achieve a stable dual plane implantation. Results: In total, 47 patients underwent dual plane chin augmentation using a Gore- Tex implant between January 2008 and May 2013. The mean age at operation was 25.77 years (range, 15-55 years). There were 3 cases of infection; one patient was treated with antibiotics, the others underwent implant removal. Additionally, two patients complained of postoperative parasthesia that spontaneously improved without any additional treatment. Most patients were satisfied with the postoperative outcomes, and no chin growth problems were observed among the younger patients. Conclusion: Dual plane Gore-Tex chin augmentation is a minimally-invasive operation that is simple and safe. All implants yielded satisfactory results with no significant complications such as mental nerve injury, lower lip incompetence, or chin growth limitation.
For effective rehabilitation of the shoulder, physical therapists must have correct knowledge of shoulder movements. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between shoulder movements and the rotation of the humerus in the sagittal, coronal and scapular planes. Fifty normal subjects(25 male, 25 female) were tested using a Dualar-plus digital goniometer and an air-splint. The subjects performed active shoulder elevation in each plane with the humerus rotated in both medial and lateral directions. The range of motion(ROM) of the glenohumeral joint was measured three times. The paired t-test was used to determine the difference in ROM between medial and lateral rotation of the humerus. Results showed that, in the sagittal and the coronal planes, there was a significant difference(p < 0.01) in ROM of the shoulder between medial rotation and lateral rotation which was greater. But in the scapular plane, there was no difference between medial and lateral rotation. Physical therapists should consider these results when the goal of treatment is to increase ROM of the shoulder.
The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in measurements between cephalometric radiographs and digigraphs of Dolphin Imaging System. 26 Korean adult male and 24 adult female with normal occlusion were selected. For each subject lateral cephalogram was taken. Digitizing with Digigraph Work Station of Dolphin in System. was performed as well. 50 tracings and 50 digigraphs were analyzed with Yonsei, Ricketts, Burstone analyses. The comparable measurements between tracing group and digigraph group were statistically analyzed. The results were as follows: 1. 13 of 64 comparable measurements did not show any statistically significant difference (P>0.05) between tracing group and digigraph group. 2. Three of the measurements with FH plane as a reference plane did not show any statistically insignificant difference. All measurement with SN plane as a reference plane showed statistically significant difference(p<0.05). 3. The measurements which showhed no statistically significant difference were mostly short distance linear measurements while most of the angular measurements showed statistically significant difference(p<0.05).
Occurring fire or burning bushes beneath overhead power lines have caused system disturbances in many countries. In this study, various tests in the simulated condition of power lines were conducted so as to investigate the reduction in insulation strength caused by combustion flame. Characteristics of the ac and dc flashover voltages in the vertical needle-plane, sphere-plane and rod-plane electrode system were investigated when the combustion flames were present near the high-voltage electrode. As the results of an experimental investigation, It was found that the average reduction characteristics of flashover voltages with the sphere-plane system, in comparison with the no-flames case, were about 1/3 times when the ac voltages were applied.

The track pull-in behavior analysis in an optical disk drive (ODD) using plane phase and the evaluations for effecting parameters of it are discussed. Track pull-in, track capture procedure to do track following control, is a key factor to increase data transfer rate. First, the relative velocity between the beam spot of an optical pick-up and the target track of an optical disk is analyzed during the track pull-in procedure. In this process, it is showed that the track error signal has nonlinear characteristics which are depending on the time. Second, Runge-Kutta method to solve the nonlinear equation is applied to find the track pull-in behavior, and some optimal parameters to get stable and fast pull-in condition are obtained. Then, the phase plane analysis for track pull-in procedure is presented. Finally, some comments for the simulated results are discussed briefly.

Because individual HRTFs (Head-Related Transfer Functions) vary from a person to a person, a HRTF database has been measured by researchers to investigate the inter-subject variation, and to generate high fidelity virtual sound image. Individual HRTFs not only vary between subjects but also vary due to wearing clothes and glasses in daily life. However, influence of different dressing condition on the measured HRTF was not sufficiently investigated. To quantify the effect of wearing clothes and glasses, dummy's HRTF is measured in an anechoic chamber with various dressing condition, and is evaluated in the sense of spectral distortion. HRTFs are measured both in the median plane and in the horizontal plane. In the median plane, under 6kHz, effect of different wearing clothes and glasses is negligible. Over 6kHz, however, effect of clothing distorts HRTF about 6dB in the sense of spectral distortion. Moreover, at high frequencies, effect of glasses is no longer negligible. In the horizontal plane, at some azimuths, even additional light cloth over the dummy can change the spectrum of HRTF (6dB spectral distortion) especially when sound source is at contralateral positions. Therefore, HRTF measurement with different wearing conditions can broaden the capability of HRTF customization whose technique utilizes a HRTF database.
For the purpose of clarifying the influence of welding residual stress to the fatigue crack propagations behaviour, an analytical investigation based on finite element method is performed to examine the opening behaviour of tip-closed crack in the compressive residual stress. A finite element model comprised of contact elements for the crack plane and plane stress elements for the base material is used to evaluate crack opening stress of the crack existing in the residual stress field. Also an analytical method based on the superposition principle to estimate the length of opened part of tip closed crack and the stress distribution adjacent to the crack during uploading is applied to the finite element model. The software for the analysis is ABAQUS, which is a general purpose finite element package. The results show that stresses distributed on the crack surfaces are reduced and approached to zero as the applied stresses are increased up to crack tip opening stress and no mechanical discontinuity is found at the boundary of contact elements and plane stress elements. It is verified that the opening behavior of the fatigue crack in the residual stress can be predicted by finite element method with the proposed analytical method.

The measuring of internal defects of objects using the shearography has many advantages. It is a non-contact and non-destructive method and It has a real time measurement speed and no constraints of object shape. Compared to ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry), Shearography has a very low error rate by vibration and air turbulence. So shearography provides possibilities of industrial application. In this paper, Image processing algorithm that is measurement of out-of-plane deformation using the shearography is proposed by developed using the LabVIEW 2010 and measurement result of out-of-plane ESPI and Shearography are compared quantitatively.
This study was performed to investigate the factor that might affect mandibualr body rotation. For the study, 115 patients with temporomandibular disorders and 35 dental students without angy signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders were randomly selected as the patient group and the contreol group, respectively. Preferred chewing side, Angle' classification, lateral guidance pattern, and affected side were clinically recorded, and the amount of Mandibular body rotational torque movement was measured in wide opening and closure, in right and left excursion with vertical and lateral distance in frontal plane, right and left rotational angel in horizontal and in frontal plane. Masticatory muscle activity of anteriorocclusal contact pattern on maximal hard biting were also observed synchronously with BioEMG and T-Scan , respectively. The observed items were muscle activity of anterior temporalis and superficial masseter, and tooth contact status related to contact number, force, duration, and occlusal unbalance between right and left arch. The data collected were analyzed by SAS statistical program. The results of this study were as follows : 1. Mean value of vertical distance in frontal plane in wide opening and closure was more in control subjects than in patients, but there was no difference for rotational angle. In right excursion, rotational angles were greater in patient group than in control group. 2. Comparison among the subjects by preferred chewing side did not reveal any significant difference, but comparison among patients by affected side showed more rotational amount in bilaterally affected patients than in unilaterally affected patients. 3. Comparison among the subjects by Angle's classification or lateral guidance pattern revealed no difference. There was also no difference between preferred chewing side and contralateral side, and between affected side and contralateral side. 4. Positive correlation in madibular rotational torque movements were observed among vertical distance, total horizontal rotation angle, electromyographic activity of anterior temporalis, tooth contact number, and tooth contact force but total frontal rotation angle almost did not show any correlation with other variables except vertical distance.
Background: Although visual examination and palpation are used to assess shoulder motion in clinical practice, there is no consensus on shoulder motion under dynamic and static conditions. This study aimed to compare shoulder joint motion under dynamic and static conditions. Methods: The dominant arm of 14 healthy adult males was investigated. Electromagnetic sensors attached to the scapular, thorax, and humerus were used to measure three-dimensional shoulder joint motion under dynamic and static elevation conditions and compare scapular upward rotation and glenohumeral joint elevation in different elevation planes and angles. Results: At 120° of elevation in the scapular and coronal planes, the scapular upward rotation angle was higher in the static condition and the glenohumeral joint elevation angle was higher in the dynamic condition (P<0.05). In scapular plane and coronal plane elevation 90°-120°, the angular change in scapular upward rotation was higher in the static condition and the angular change in scapulohumeral joint elevation was higher in the dynamic condition (P<0.05). No differences were found in shoulder joint motion in the sagittal plane elevation between the dynamic and static conditions. No interaction effects were found between elevation condition and elevation angle in all elevation planes. Conclusions: Differences in shoulder joint motion should be noted when assessing shoulder joint motion in different dynamic and static conditions.
