  • In this work, the $N_2O$ decomposition catalyst and reaction characteristics to control the $N_2O$ removal were described. Experiments were carried out by using Rh as an active metal catalyst on various supports and the $Rh/CeO_2$ catalyst with $CeO_2$ support showed the best activity for the $N_2O$ decomposition when it was prepared under the constant heat treatment condition ($500^{\circ}C$-4 hr). $H_2-TPR$ and XPS analyzes were performed to confirm the effect of the physical and chemical properties of the catalyst on $N_2O$ decomposition. As a result, it was found that the increase of the oxygen transfer capacity of the catalyst due to the increase of both the redox property and $Ce^{3+}$ amount affected the decomposition reaction of $N_2O$. In addition, the future work will include a treatment process capable of decomposition $N_2O$ and NO under the condition that $N_2O$ and NO are simultaneously generated and its characteristics of $N_2O$ decomposition reaction.

  • Numerous stationary NOx emission sources have employed a suitable deNOx technology that is typically selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx by NH3 over V2O5/TiO2-based catalysts with on-demand monolithic structures. These structured catalysts undergo a time-on-deterioration of deNOxing activity on site. Thus, we need more efficient, more deactivation-tolerant, more economic deNOx systems and for which, their performance management is essential. This review has covered details of strategies to successfully manage the performance of SCR catalysts and timely replace them to new or rejuvenated ones. Key considerations to maintain the catalyst activity will be reviewed. Details of the sequential addition of new catalysts and the replacement of life-end catalysts and their regeneration will be discussed with general guidances to determine the time for such a replacement. Finally, a better way to get more economic approaches to deNOx system management will be proposed here.

  • In this study, the model biomass was used for hydrogen production by supercritical water gasification (SCWG). Model biomasses were glycerol, glycine, lignin and cellulose. The feed concentration was set to 1 wt%. Experiments were conducted in a reactor at $440^{\circ}C$ and above 26.3 MPa for 30 min. The effects of catalysts such as alkali metal salt ($K_2CO_3$ and $Na_2CO_3$) and transition metal salts ($Ni(NO_3)_2$, $Fe(NO_3)_3$ and $Mn(NO_3)_2$) on the gasification were systematically investigated. No tar or coke was observed in all experiments. The results showed that the gasification efficiency increased with various catalysts. For the cellulose and glycerol, all catalysts were effective for the promoted $H_2$ production compared with no catalyst. The significant decrease of $H_2$ production compared with no catalyst was observed with $Na_2CO_3$ and $Fe(NO_3)_3$ for glycine and lignin. respectively. The highest H2 production, 1.24 mmol was obtained for glycerol-SCWG with $Mn(NO_3)_2$. Conclusively, the addition of $Mn(NO_3)_2$ enhanced all model biomass gasification efficiency and increased the hydrogen production promoting the supercritical water reaction.

  • The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx by $NH_3$ is well known as one of the most convenient, efficient, and economical method to prevent NOx emission in flue gas from stationary sources. The degradation of the reactivity is the obstacle for its real application, since high concentrations of sulfur dioxide and thermal factor would deactivate the catalyst. It is necessary to develop high stability of catalysts for low-temperature SCR. Among the transition metal oxides, $WO_3$ is known to exhibit high SCR activity and good thermal stability. The $MnOx-WO_3-TiO_2$ catalysts prepared by sol-gel method with various $WO_3$ contents were investigated for low-temperature SCR. These catalysts were observed in terms of micro-structure and spectroscopy analyses. The $WO_3$ catalyst as a promoter is used to enhance the thermal stability of catalyst since it increases the phase transition temperature of $TiO_2$ support. It was found that the addition of tungsten oxides not only maintained the temperature window of NO conversion but also increased the acid sites of catalyst.

  • The influence of catalytic activity on Fe loading methods over Fe/BEA zeolite catalyst in the simultaneous reduction of $N_2O/NO$ has been studied. The Fe/BEA zeolite catalysts were prepared by ion exchange and impregnation. Catalytic tests were carried out in the selective catalytic reduction using ammonia as a reductant to identify the activity of prepared catalysts. The results show that the ion exchanged catalyst exhibited higher NO and $N_2O$ conversions than the impregnated catalysts did. To investigate the difference in catalytic activity, we performed various analyses such as XRD, $H_2-TPR$, $O_2-TPD$ and XPS. It is considered that the increase in the activity of the ion exchange catalyst is due to improved reducibility and increased oxygen desorption rate. In addition, the ion exchange catalyst was found through the XPS analysis that $Fe^{2+}$, which is related to the catalytic activity, is formed about 1.6 times more than the impregnated catalyst.

  • NO oxidation is an important prerequisite step to assist the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) at low temperatures ($<200^{\circ}C$). Therefore, we conducted the lab- and bench-scales experiments appling the sodium chlorite powder ($NaClO_2(s)$) for the oxidation of NO to $NO_2$ and the carbon-based catalyst for the reduction of $NO_x$ and $SO_2$; the lab- and bench-scales experiments were conducted in laboratory and iron-ore sintering plant, respectively. In the lab-scale experiment, known concentrations of $NO_x$ (200 ppm), $SO_2$ (75 ppm), $H_2O$ (10%) and $NH_3$ (400 ppm) in 2.6 L/min were introduced into a packed-bed reactor containing $NaClO_2(s)$, then gases produced by the reaction with $NaClO_2(s)$ were fed into the carbon-based catalyst (space velocity = $2,000hr^{-1}$) at $130^{\circ}C$. In the bench-scale experiment, flue gases of $50Nm^3/hr$ containing 120 ppm NO and 150 ppm $SO_2$ were taken out from the duct of iron-ore sintering plant, then introduced into the flow reactor; $NaClO_2(s)$ were injected into the flow reactor using a screw feeder. Gases produced by the reaction with $NaClO_2(s)$ were introduced into the carbon-based catalyst (space velocity = $1,000hr^{-1}$). Results have shown that, in both lab- and bench-scales experiments, NO was oxidized to $NO_2$ by $NaClO_2(s)$. In addition, above 90% of $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ removal were obtained at the carbon-based catalyst. These results lead us to suggest that the combination of $NaClO_2(s)$ with the carbon-based catalyst has the potential to achieve the simultaneous removal of $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ at low temperature ($<200^{\circ}C$).

  • In order to remove the NO contained in exhaust gas by the non-selective catalyst reduction method, the catalysts were prepared by varing the loading amount of Ag and V into ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. The conversion of $NO_x$ using the prepared catalysts was studied by varying the temperatures, $O_2$ concentrations and $SO_2$ concentrations using. The influence of the catalyst structure on $NO_x$ conversion was studied through the analysis of the physical properties of the prepared catalysts. In the case of $AgV/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst, the $NO_x$ conversion was lower than that of $Ag/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at higher temperatures but higher than that of $Ag/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at lower temperatures. Even though $SO_2$ was contained in the reaction gas, the $NO_x$ conversion did not decrease. Based on the analysis including XRD, XPS, TPR, and UV-Vis DRS before and after the experiments, the experimental results were examined. The results indicated that, $NO_x$ conversion decreased at higher temperatures since Ag oxide could not be maintained well due to the addition of V, whereas it increased at temperatures lower than $300^{\circ}C$ due to the catalytic action of V.

  • In this study, we examined the effect of NO addition on the ozone-induced soot oxidation activity of $LaMnO_3$ perovskite catalysts. The addition of 10~20% NO ($NO_2$) with respect to the concentration of ozone effectively enhanced the rate of ozone-induced soot oxidation rate over $LaMnO_3$. However, the excessive addition of NO ($NO_2$) was detrimental to ozone-induced soot oxidation activity. It is supposed nitrogen oxides would adsorb on the catalyst and then react with carbon-oxygen species developed on soot surface, but an excessive addition of nitrogen oxide would inhibit the formation of carbon-oxygen species, which is a key intermediate in the reaction, and consequently suppress the oxidation rate of soot.
