This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of liquid fertilizer containing humic acid (LFHA) on changes of creeping bentgrass quality and growth. Treatments were designed as follows; control fertilizer (CF), HA-1 ($CF+1ml\;m^{-2}LFHA$ LFHA), HA-2 ($CF+2ml\;m^{-2}LFHA$ LFHA), and HA-3 ($CF+4ml\;m^{-2}LFHA$). As compared with CF, soil chemical properties and chlorophyll content of clipping of LFHA treatments were not significantly different. Visual quality in both of HA-2 and HA-3 treatments was higher than that of CF treatment from September to November, and clipping yield on October 27. Shoot density, root length, and the content of nitrogen, phosphorus or potassium were increased by application of LFHA. The clipping yield was positively correlated with phosphorus content, potassium content or shoot density. Similarly, LFHA level was proportionate to clipping yield of creeping bentgrass, and N, P, K contents in the leaf tissue. These results generally demonstrated that the application of LFHA improved the growth and quality of creeping bentgrass by increase of N content or P in leaf tissue.

The APEX model has been developed for assessing agricultural management efforts and their effects on soil and water at the field scale as well as more complex multi-subarea landscapes, whole farms, and watersheds. Recently, a key component of APEX application, named APEX-Paddy, has been modified for simulating water quality by considering paddy rice management practices. In this study, the performance of the APEX-Paddy model was evaluated using field data at Iksan experimental paddy sites in Korea. The discharge and pollutant load data during 2013 and 2014 were used to both manually and automatically calibrate the model. The APEX auto-calibration tool (APEX-CUTE 4.1) was used for model calibration and sensitivity analysis. Results indicate that APEX-Paddy reasonably performs in predicting runoff discharge rate and nitrogen yield. However, sediment and phosphorus yield is not correctly predicted due to the limitation of model schemes. With APEX-Paddy, the performance in reproducing the discharge and nitrogen yield is found to be a satisfactory level after manual calibration. The manually calibrated model performed better than the automatically calibrated model in nearly all comparisons. For runoff, manual calibration reduced PBIAS while R2 and NSE values of the automatically calibrated model were the same as the manual calibration. For T-N, NSE and PBIAS were reduced when using manual calibration, whereas R2 value was the same as manual calibration. The limitation of the APEX-Paddy model for predicting sediment, as well as the phosphorous yield, was discussed in this study.
The average weight of larvae, the percentage of survival larvae and the percentage of moth emergence in first and second generation of striped rice borer showed lower values in Akibare(Japonica variety) compared with those in Milyang 23 (Indica variety). At higher nitrogen level the larvae weight in second generation of striped borer was increased. The percentage of survival larvae in second generation was gradually decreased by applying the silicate fertilizer in both cultivars. The moth emergences in both generations of striped rice borer were also lower at high levels of silicate fertilizer. The percentage of white head of rice plant was reduced by the application of silicate fertilizer. The ratio of SiO$_2$ to T-N of the rice stem was related negatively with the percentage of survival larvae and the moth emergence in second generation of striped rice borer, and also with the percentage of white head of rice plant.

To verify the newly developed decision assisting expert system for nitrogen fertilizer application NES to Illinois cornfields, a couple of N rate studies from Dr. Howard and five Illinois Agricultural Experiment Stations were applied. Four types of recommendations including the current Illinois recommendation, Hoeft recommendation, NES, and maximum economic recommendation were compared with each other for the crop yields, profits, recovery rate, and N losses to cornfields. The N rate of NES recommendation, considering productivity index (PI), soil organic matter content (SOM), and pre-sidedressing nitrate concentration (PSNT) level, was the lowest in comparison to those of other recommendations. However, N recovery rate in NES was generally higher and the resulting N loss was lower than others. But, adherence to the recommendations may also reduce farmers income if environmental expense did not considered. Therefore, NES will be more effective by adding the factors including environmental expense, tillage systems, crop rotation, and other agricultural management parameters.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of N levels (0,10,20,30kg/10a) and N split rates [the rates of basal+top dressing 15 days after transplanting (DAT) : top dressing 25 days before heading (DBH) was 100 : 0, 80 : 20, 60 : 40 ] on the growth, yield, yield components, and N uptake of Seomjinbyeo (J) and Samgangbyeo (I${\times}$J). The maximum tillering stage occurred in the middle of July in both varieties, but Samgangbyeo showed the second maximum tillering stage in the middle of August probably due to the retarded early growth caused by low temperature in the tillering stage and to favoring temperature in August. Grain yield of Seomjinbyeo was similar among the N levels from 10 to 30 kg/10a without occurrence of rice blast and lodging, but that of Samgangbyeo increased as N level increased upto 30 kg/10a. Grain yield of Seomjinbyeo was higher when N was applied three times (basal and two top dressings 15 DAT and 25 DBH) compared with two times (basal and top dressing 15 DAT), but that of Samgangbyeo was not different among the N split rates. Total N uptake and the proportion of fertilizer N to the total N uptake increased as N level was higher. N uptake tended to be higher as proportion of basal+top dressing 15 DAT increased in early growth stage, but it was higher as proportion of N applied 25 DBH increased in the late growth stage. The N efficiency to produce grain per absorbed N unit decreased as N level decreased in Seomjinbyeo, but similar in Samgangbyeo.
A lab-scale ensiling study was carried out to investigate the fermentation quality of water hyacinth (WH) supplemented with molasses, rice bran, as an absorbent, and an inoculant in the form of fermented vegetable juice and their combinations. After wilting the water hyacinths for 7 h to a dry matter (DM) content of 240 to 250 g/kg, the following treatments were applied: i) Control (C), WH only; ii) WH with sugarcane molasses at 40 g/kg WH (CM); iii) WH inoculated with fermented vegetable juice at 10 ml/kg WH (CI); iv) CM and CI (CMI) combined; v) WH with 150 g rice bran/kg WH (CA); vi) CA and CI combined (CAI); vii) CA and CM combined (CAM); and viii) CA, CM and CI combined (CAMI). After application of additives, the differently treated forages were mixed and ensiled in triplicates in 1,500-ml polyethylene jars. After ensiling for 3 d, pH values in all treatments, except C and CI, had decreased to approximately 4.0 and remained low till 14 d. After 56 d, pH had increased between 0.4 to 0.9 pH-units compared to those at 14 d. The ammonia nitrogen ($NH_3$-N) concentration ranged from an acceptable level in treatment CM (8 g/kg N) to a high $NH_3$-N value in treatment CMI (16 g/kg N). Lactic acid formation was higher in CI than in all other treatments. Butyric acid contents, which indicate badly fermented silages, were low in all silages (<2 g/kg DM). There were two-way interactions (p-values from <0.001 to 0.045) for almost all fermentation end-products and pH, except for the molasses${\times}$inoculant interaction on $NH_3$-N (p = 0.26). Significant 3-way interactions were found on all observed variables except for weight losses of silages. It is concluded that conserving wilted WH as silage for ruminants may be improved by the addition of molasses or rice bran.

The purpose of this study was to find the basic application of Disporum genus in landscape-arc-hitectual space. Environment of native site (Daeducksan, Piseulsan) and growth characteristics of experiment plot were investigated and analyzed in this study. The results of this study were as follows; 1. In the case of environment of native site, the relative light intensity was about 10% and distribution of species were primarily north slope. Gradient of Daeducksan and Piseulsan were 10$^{\circ}$, 18$^{\circ}$ Soil textures was Lic both and field capacity of Daeducksan and Piseulsan were 69%, 73.5%. The soil pH of Daeducksan and Piseulsan were 6.1 and 5.8. The both content of organic matter and C.E.C. were high markedly. The P2O5 content of Daeducksan showed high but total nitrogen showed nearly the same level when comparing with the common dry field condition. 2. In tree layer, Daeducksan composed of broadleaved forest of 80% involving Quercus variabilis, and Piseulsan composed of coniferous forest of 80% involving Pinus densiflora on the other hand. Daeducksan, therefore, was more appearance species than Piseulsan in herbaceous layer. 3. Result in ANOVA Test, significance followed with light intensity was recognized in plant height, leaf width, leaf length, leaf thick and No. of leaf, while in the case of soil was not. Plant height was longest in 1% and leaf width, leaf length was largest in 25%. Therefore ornamental value of leaf was the very best in 25%. 4. Result in correlation coefficient analysis, plant height was correlated leaf width, leaf length. The longer plant height, the smaller leaf width, leaf length. In relative light intensity of 1%, flower was hardly expected because of the more shade, the less flower. Disporum smilacinum is expected great use as ground covers in the shades of tall-building or hdavy woods.
Cassia mimosoides var. nomame was grown at five phosphate rates (0, 5, 15, 25 and 35 kg/10a) at Cheju in 1998 to determine the influence of phosphate rate on growth, forage yield and quality. As phosphate rate increased from 0 to 35kg/10a, the plant growth was increased such as days to flowering, plant height, the number of branches and green leaves per plant, stem diameter and SPAD (Soil Plant Analysis Development) reading values of leaves but the number of withering leaves per plant decreased. Fresh forage yield was 3, 291kg/10a at 0 kg/10a of phosphate rate and increased 5, 200 and 5, 230 kg/10a at 25 and 35 kg/10a of phosphate level, respectively. Dry matter, crude protein and total digestible nutrients (TDN) showed the same tendency of changes as the fresh forage yield. Crude protein, crude fat, nitrogen free extract and TDN content increased but crude ash and crude fiber content decreased as the increasing of phosphate rate increased.
The completely mixed flow and plug flow (CAP) water quality model was developed for streams with discontinuous flows, a condition that often occurs in low base flow streams with in-stream hydraulic structures, especially during dry seasons. To consider the distinct physical properties of each reach effectively, the CAP model stream network can include both plug flow (PF) segments and completely mixed flow (CMF) segments. Many existing water quality models are capable of simulating various constituents and their interactions in surface water bodies. More complicated models do not necessarily produce more accurate results because of problems in data availability and uncertainties. Due to the complicated and even random nature of environmental forcing functions, it is not possible to construct an ideal model for every situation. Therefore, at present, many governmental level water quality standards and decisions are still based on lumped constituents, such as the carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD), the total nitrogen (TN) or the total phosphorus (TP). In these cases, a model dedicated to predicting the target concentration based on available data may provide as equally accurate results as a general purpose model. The CAP model assumes that its water quality constituents are independent of each other and thus can be applied for any constituent in waters that follow first order reaction kinetics. The CAP model was applied to the Geum River in Korea and tested for CBOD, TN, and TP concentrations. A trial and error method was used for parameter calibration using the field data. The results agreed well with QUAL2EU model predictions.
Sixteen specific pathogen free 4-wk-old crossbred weanling pigs were allotted into a $2{\times}2$ factorial design to evaluate chromium picolinate (CrPic) on growth and physiological responses. Two factors included (1) no Cr or 400 ppb Cr supplementation from chromium picolinate and (2) lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection on day 21 (d 21) and 35 (d 35) compared to saline application. Plasma samples and rectal temperature were obtained from all piglets before (h 0) and at 2 h (h 2), 4 h (h 4), 8 h (h 8), and 24 h (h 24) after LPS injection ($200{\mu}g/kg$ BW, intraperitoneally). The rectal temperature on d 21 was significantly decreased (p<0.05) of about $0.36^{\circ}C$ with Cr supplementation before LPS injection. After LPS injection, the daily gain of piglets was decreased during d 35-38. Supplementation of Cr had no effect in general on growth performance particularly after LPS injection. The plasma glucose, triglycerides and urea nitrogen concentrations were changed in different ways after LPS injection. Plasma cortisol level was significantly elevated at h 2 after LPS injection on d 21 and d 35. The supplementation of Cr in the diet can delayed plasma cortisol release on d 35. The results suggest that 400 ppb Cr supplementation from CrPic may modulate the physiological response during immune stress in weanling pigs.
