Excessive application of nitrogen (N) fertilizer to support switchgrass growth for bioenergy production may cause adverse environmental effects. The objective of this study was to determine optimum N application rate to increase biomass yield of switchgrass and to reduce adverse environmental effects related to N. Switchgrass was planted in May 2008 and biomass yield, N uses of switchgrass, nitrate ($NO_3$) leaching, and nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) emission were evaluated from 2010 through 2011. Total N removal significantly increased with N rate despite the fact that yield did not increased with above $56kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ of N rate. Apparent nitrogen recoveries were 4.81 and 5.48% at 56 and $112kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ of N rate, respectively. Nitrogen use efficiency decreased into half with increasing N rate from 56 to $112kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$. Nitrate leaching and $N_2O$ emission were related to N use of switchgrass. There was no significant difference of cumulative $NO_3$ leaching between 0 and $56kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ but, it significantly increased at $112kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$. There was no significant difference of cumulative $N_2O$ emission among N rates in crest, but it significantly increased at $112kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ in toe. Excessive N application rate (above $56kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$) beyond plant requirement could accelerate $NO_3$ leaching and $N_2O$ emission in switchgrass field. Overall, $56kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ might be optimum N application rate in reducing economic waste on N fertilizer and adverse environmental impacts.

Clean labeling is emerging as an important issue in the food industry, particularly for meat products that contain many food additives. Among synthetic additives, nitrite is the most important additive in the meat processing industry and is related to the development of cured color and flavor, inhibition of oxidation, and control of microbial growth in processed meat products. As an alternative to synthetic nitrite, preconverted nitrite from natural microorganisms has been investigated, and the applications of pre-converted nitrite have been reported. Natural nitrate sources mainly include fruits and vegetables with high nitrate content. Celery juice or powder form have been used widely in various studies. Many types of commercial starter cultures have been developed. S. carnosus is used as a critical nitrate reducing microorganism and lactic acid bacteria or other Staphylococcus species also were used. Pre-converted nitrite has also been compared with synthetic nitrite and studies have been aimed at improving utilization by exploiting the strengths (positive consumer attitude and decreased residual nitrite content) and limiting the weaknesses (remained carcinogenic risk) of pre-converted nitrite. Moreover, as concerns regarding the use of synthetic nitrites increased, research was conducted to meet consumer demands for the use of natural nitrite from raw materials. In this report, we review and discuss various studies in which synthetic nitrite was replaced with natural materials and evaluate pre-converted nitrite technology as a natural curing approach from a clean label perspective in the manufacturing of processed meat products.
Nitrate nitrogen was absorbed dominantly among the inorganic nitrogen nutrients by tobacco plant. Transport and reduction of $NO_3-N$ in plant tissue were the important metabolism for supplying synthetic N compounds to developing tissues during growth period. Under field and environment-controlled condition tobacco plants were grown and seperated to leaf tissues at stalk positions for investigation of nitrogen transport and assimilation ability during period of rapid vegative growth. The results of studies were summarized as follows: 1. $NO_3-N$ absorbed from roots was transported as inorganic nitrogen through the vascular tissue of leaf veins as resulting from the high $NO_3-N$ ratio of the nitrogen content in leaf veins, but these ratios in mesophyll tissue of the same leaf laminae decreased remarkably in disregard of higher accumulation of nitrogen being compared to midvien. 2. Mesophyll tissue of mature leaves appeared higher value of nitrate reductase activity (NRA) comparing with other tissues, stem, leaf vien, and meristmatic tissue at emergence point with young leaves. 3. Matured leaves at lower position being reducing nitrate nitrogen vigorously observed thick laminae and kept high amount of water in them. 4. Mature leaves of young plant reduced $NO_3-N$ vigorously for supply synthetic N compounds to meristmatic tissues at growing point by the reason of narrow and few leaves at young stage, but in advancing growth period NRA of mature leaves along upper position reached to lower value. This appearence attributed to distribution of organic-N compound demanding for growth to increasing numbers of wide leaves.

AI-doped ZnO(AZO) thin films have been fabricated on glass substrate by sol-gel method, and the effect of Al precursors and post-annealing temperature on the characteristics of AZO thin films was investigated. The sol was prepared with zinc acetate, EtOH, MEA and Al precursors. In order to dope Al in ZnO, two types of aluminum nitrate and aluminum chloride were used as Al precursor. Zinc concentration was 0.5 mol/l and the content of Al precursor was 1 at% of Zn in the sol. The sol was spin-coated on glass substrate, and the coated films were annealed at 550ue for 2 hand were post-annealed at temperature ranges of $300{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in reducing atmosphere ($N_2/H_2$= 9/1). Structural, electrical and optical propertis of the fabricated AZO thin films were analyzed by XRD, FE-SEM, AFM, hall effect measurement system and UV-visible spectroscopy. Optical and electrical properties of AZO thin films prepared with aluminum nitrate as Al precursor were better than those of films prepared with aluminum chloride. The electrical resistivity and the optical transmittance of films decreased with increasing post-annealing temperatures. The minimum electrical resistivity of $2{\times}10^{-3}$ and the maximum optical transmittance of 91% were obtained for the AZO thin films post-annealed at $550^{\circ}C\;and\;300^{\circ}C$, respectively.
Perovskite-type oxide catalysts in the $\textrm{LaMnO}_3$ family were prepared by both freeze drying and precipitation technique, and their catalytic activities with respect to the oxidation of CO with $O_2$ were measured in the composite gases. Freeze drying is a new technique for the prevention of migration of the solutes during drying. Therefore, the corrugated cordierite monolith fabricated with the Ø 1mm stainless steel bar was directly impregnated with nitrate solutions containing the appropriate cations, freeze dried and calcined. Precipitation was done by using $\textrm{(NH_4)}_2\textrm{CO}_3$ but the precipitated catalysts gave lower catalytic than the freeze dried samples due to, in part, relatively high calcining temperature. In this study, freeze dried composition had high catalytic activity, and their apparent activation energy for oxidation of CO was calculated by the rate plots using the data where the percent conversion of CO was less than 20%.
This study was designed to investigate effective preprocess methods for the antioxidant activity of Lycopus lucidus Trucz tubers extract. Lycopus lucidus Trucz tubers (LlTT) were treated with D (Dried), SD (Steamed and Dried), ASD (Alcohol-Steamed and Dried), DR (Dried and Roasted), SDR (Steamed, Dried and Roasted), and ASDR (Alcohol-Steamed, Dried and Roasted). Solid content was high in Lycopus lucidus Trucs tubers, which were roasted after drying (especially SDR, ASDR). Total sugar and reducing sugar contents were high in roasted ones. Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents were high upon alcohol-steaming in both the dried and roasted groups. Antioxidant activities of LlTT extracts showed effective nitrate scavenging ability, ABTs radical scavenging ability, Xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity, and DPPH radical scavenging ability. As a result, roasting or steaming process (especially using alcohol) can be helpful to obtain the highly antioxidative extract of Lycopus lucidus Trucs tubers.

A new method for liquid chromatography with post column reaction is suggested for the separation and quantification of tertiary amines. A mixture of triethanolamine and N-ethyl diethanolamine was separated by a strong cation exchange column, followed by spectrophtometric detection of the blue colors generated from the reaction of each amine with the Folin-Ciocalteau reagent. The tertiary amines were properly separated when an eluent of pH 9.5 containing 0.5M sodium nitrate was used. Under this condition, calibration curve of triethanolamine in 2-10mg/100ml concentration range was attained. Good results were obtained when cream and shampoo preparations containing known amount of triethanolamine were analysed according to this method. In case the sample did not contain any other interfering reducing substances, the amine was quantitatively determined by the simple reaction of the samples with Folin-Ciocalteau reagent, and the subsequent spectrophotometric measurement.

To determine the effects of potassium($K_2O$) fertilization level(0, 100, 200 and 300 kg/ha/year) on the growth, dry matter(DM) yield, nutritive value and nitrate nitrogen($NO_3$-N) concentration of grasses grown under shading condition, this experiment was carried out in Grassland Div., LES, 1989. The plants were sampled on different growing seasons (spring, summer and autumn) and growth stages (grazing and soiling), respectively. Shade was controlled artificially ca. 45-50%, and the level of nitrogen fertilization was 200 kg/ha/year in all treatments. Higher DM was produced in spring 1, 453 kg at grazing and 2, 364 kg/ha at soiling stage, and DM production was increased with increasing level of $K_2O$. In this experiment, the optimum amount of $K_2O$ fertilizer was 200 kg/ha. The neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, DM digestibility, and relative feed value of grasses were not affected by $K_2O$ fertilization, regardless of growing season and growth stage. The $NO_3$-N concentration of grasses grown in spring was very low (ca. 1.0%), regardless of growth stage and $K_2O$ level. However, $NO_3$-N concentration was very high in summer and autumn season, also $NO_3$-N was decreased significantly with increasing level of $K_2O$ fertilization (P<0.05). Application of $K_2O$ fertilizer, therefore, is thoughs to be desirable for reducing $NO_3$-N concentration of grasses, especially in summer and autumn season. So annual split fertilization of $K_2O$ could be recommended on woodland pasture.
Organic enrichment was investigated in surface sediments from the Yeoja and Gangjin Bays of Korea, which contain dense shellfish farms, in order to evaluate the contamination status and temporal changes in shellfish farming along these coasts. The degree of organic enrichment was determined using geochemical indicators (chemical oxygen demand, ignition loss, acid volatile sulfide, total organic carbon in sediments, and total nitrogen in sediments, ammonium and nitrate in pore water, and bioluminescence inhabitation for sediments). Temporal changes in organic enrichment conditions were detected by comparing our 2012 data to those previously reported from a survey conducted in 1999/2000. Organic enrichment was significantly higher in September than in May and July, in Gangjin Bay than in Yeoja Bay, and significantly higher in shellfish farms than in reference sites not used to culture shellfish. Ammonium concentrations in pore water were two orders of magnitude greater than nitrate concentrations, suggesting that these bays represent nitrogen-reducing environments.
Nutrient losses, especially nitrogen and phosphorus, in agricultural runoff can contaminate surface and ground water, leading to eutrophication. Thus, erosion control is crucial to minimizing nutrient losses from agricultural land. Assessments of various erosion control practices were carried out under various cropping system, soil management practices, and slope conditions by means of a lysimeter study and under artificial rainfall. Soil and nutrient losses were monitored in a small agricultural field to evaluate the soil conservation practices. Nutrient losses occur in runoff and leachate (dissolved nutrient) and in sediments (particulate nutrient). Dissolved nitrates accounted for the majority (about 90%) of nitrate transport within the soil. Particulate phosphate in sediments represented the majority (60% to 67%) of phosphate transport. Recently, engineering and agronomic erosion-control practices haver been used to reduce erosion problems in fields on slopes. These practices reduced soil loss, runoff, and nutrient loss to 1/6, 1/2,and 1/3 their original levels, respectively. Bioavailable particulate phosphate in sediments represents a variable but longterm source of phosphate for algae. Dissolved nitrate and phosphate are immediately available for algal uptake, so reducing fluxes of these nutrients should also reduce the risk of eutrophication.
