The adsorption of proteins on the surface of glass slides is essential for the construction of protein chips. Here, we report that a Histidine (His)-tagged protein protein has been efficiently adsorbed on glass coated with nickel. A variety of nickel chloride-coated plates were prepared by the spin-coating method and adsorbed to the His-tagged protein. When the protein was adsorbed onto the surface of a variety of nickel chloride-coated glass slides, the efficiency of protein adsorption was dependent upon the coating conditions such as nickel chloride concentration, the spin speed and the drying temperature. The slides appropriate for protein adsorption were obtained when the slides were coated with 11%(w/w) of $NiCl_2$ at the spin speed of 4000 rpm for 20 sec and then dried at higher than 40°C. The physical properties of their nickel chloride thin layer were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. x-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy, finding that the nickel chloride particles were around 10 nm in diameter and uniformly crystallized at 101 faces. These results show that nickel chloride-coated slides prepared by the spin-coating method are utilizable for the construction of Histagged protein chips.

The nickel-zinc alloy depositions have been studied in nickel chloride added chloride baths, to find out the effects of ultrasonic irradiation for the electrodeposition processes. The compositions of deposited alloys, the current efficiencies and the metallographic appearances in various conditions of Electrodeposition were investigated, in the range of ultrasonic irradiation of 50,500 and 1,000 Kc/s respectively. The results obtained are as follows; 1. Generally the nickel deposition process is more preferably activated than that of zinc by the ultrasonic irradiation. 2. The radios of nickel to zinc in the deposit are higher according to increase of nickel ion concentration and bath temperatures in irradiated baths. 3. The current efficiencies are also higher in the irradiated baths, so that the depolarization effect is noticeable. 4. The brightness and leveling effect of the deposits are appreciably better in the irradiated baths than in non-irradiated in 0.3M and 0.6M of nickel chloride and zinc chloride solutions and the current density of 3A/$dm^2$. 5. The mechanism of alloy deposition has been tentatively suggested in the case of ultrasonic irradiation.
In this work, a nickel metal (Ni) electroplating on the activated carbon fiber (Ni/ACFs) surfaces was carried out to remove the toxic hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas. The surface properties of the treated ACFs were determined by using nitrogen adsorption isotherms at 77 K, SEM, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. HCl removal efficiency was confirmed by a gas-detecting tube technique. As a result, the nickel metal contents on the ACF surfaces were increased with increasing the plating time. And, it was found that the specific surface area or the micropore volume of the ACFs studied was slightly decreased as increasing the plating time. Whereas, it was revealed that the HCl removal efficiency containing nickel metal showed higher efficiency values than that of untreated ACFs. These results indicated that the presence of nickel metal on the ACF surfaces played an important role in improving the HCl removal over the Ni/ACFs, due to the catalytic reactions between nickel and chlorine.
Nickel is a nutritionally essential trace element that plays an important role in the immune system of several animal species. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of nickel chloride on chemotactic activity of peripheral blood polymorphonuclear cells (PMNs) and whether this effect is associated with interleukin (IL)-8 and a nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB)-dependent pathway. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and PMNs were isolated by Percoll solution (Specific gravity; 1.080) and 1.5% dextran treatment, respectively. A modified Boyden chamber assay was used to measure the chemotactic activity of PMNs. The level of IL-8 in culture supernatant from PBMCs was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Both of PBMCs and PMNs exhibited a low viability when cultured with concentration of greater than 1,000 μM of nickel chloride for 24 h. Thus, nickel chloride was used at concentration of 500 μM, which preserved cell viability. Treatment with nickel did not directly affect the chemotactic activity of PMNs. However, the chemotactic activity of PMNs was remarkably increased by culture supernatant from PBMCs treated with nickel chloride (500 μM) for 24 h. Recombinant porcine IL-8 polyclonal antibody (pAb) neutralized the enhancing effect on the chemotactic activity of PMNs by culture supernatant from PBMCs treated with nickel and this culture supernatant had higher IL-8 levels than the culture supernatant from untreated PBMCs. In addition, n-tosyll-phenylalanine chloromethyl ketone (TPCK), a NF-κB inhibitor, antagonized the enhancing effect on the chemotactic activity of PMNs by the culture supernatant from PBMCs treated with nickel. These results suggested that nickel stimulates porcine PBMCs to produce IL-8, which increases the chemotaxis of PMNs via NF-κB-dependent pathway.

A study on the preparation of nickel oxide nanoparticles using electron beam irradiation is described. Nickel nanoparticles were synthesized with nickel chloride hexahydrate as a metal precursor and different sodium hydroxide concentrations using electron beam irradiation. The effects of sodium hydroxide concentration and electron beam absorbed doses were investigated. The samples were synthesized at different sodium hydroxide concentrations and with absorbed doses of 100 to 500 kGy at room temperature. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The nanoparticle morphologies seemed to be non-spherical and aggregated. The 1:1 molar ratio of nickel chloride hexahydrate and sodium hydroxide showed a higher purity and saturation magnetization value of 13.0 emu/g. The electron beam absorbed dose was increased with increasing nickel nanoparticle nucleation.
The nickel0zinc allot depositions have been studjen in ammonium chloridw added chloride baths to fine out the effects of ultrasonic irradiation for the electrodeposition processes. The compositions of deposited alloys, the current efficiencies, corrosion resistance and brightness in various conditions of electrodeposition were investigated, in the range of ultrasonic irradiation of 50,500 and 1,000kc/s respectively. The results obtained are as follows; 1. the ratio of nikel to zinc in the deposit increased according 시 the ammonium chloride concentration in irradiated baths. 2. The current efficiencies became also higer in the irradiated bath. 3. Ammonium ions in solution seem to retard formation of zinc hydroxide. 4. The corrsion resistance and brightness of the deposits are dependent upon nickel content of deposits which ranges 10-18%(wt)nickel in the irradiated baths and 11-15%(wt)in ninirradisted baths. 5. The corrosion resistance and brightnes of the deposited are appreciably better in the irradiated baths than in non-irradiated bath with the mole ratio of 3.4(NH+4/Ni+++Zn++).
The surface residual stresses in 1mm thick nickel electrodeposits obtained from four types of nickel sulphamate baths at 40 to 60$^{\circ}C$ and 5 to 25 amps./$dm^2$ were measured by a X-ray method. An increase in nickel chloride concentration in the bath tends to increase tensile residual stresses in the deposits. Addition of no chloride or little chloride in the baths gave rise to little residual stresses or even compressive stresses in the deposits. The residual stresses in most specimens did not exceed 80 MPa and showed minimum in the specimens obtained at 50$^{\circ}C$.
