In this study, the corrosion property of copper alloy tubes in seawater has been investigated. Three copper alloys of nominal composition Cu-20Zn-2Al(Al-Brass), Cu-30Ni(CN70/30) and Cu-10Ni(CN90/10) were considered. The samples were immersed in 3%NaCl flowing solution at $90^{\circ}C$ for 30, 50 and 80 days. Corrosion rate of copper alloy tubes in 3%NaCl flowing solution was investigated by weight-loss measurements and electrochemical test. The CN70/30 showed lowest corrosion rate among three copper alloy tubes. Because of passive films formation, corrosion rates of three types of copper tubes were decrease with time. Surface characteristics of copper alloy tubes were analyzed by optical micrograph(OM), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDAX) and X-ray diffraction patterns(XRD). CN70/30 showed partly pitting problem on the surface owing to high Fe content, even though having high resistant against corrosion. Cracks appeared on the surface of CN90/10 and CN70/30 after more than 50 days immersion, which could be derived from high nickel contents.
The crystallographic texture plays an important role in both the plastic deformation and the macroscopic anisotropy of magnesium alloys. In previous study for AZ80 magnesium alloy, it was found that the main texture components of the textures vary with the deformation conditions at high temperatures. Also, the basal texture was formed at stress of more than 15-20 MPa and the non-basal texture was formed at stress of less than 15-20 MPa. Therefore, in this study, uniaxial compression deformation of AZ80 magnesium alloy was carried out at high temperature (stress of 15-20 MPa). The uniaxial compression deformation is performed at temperature of 723 K and strain rate 3.0 × 10-3s-1, with a strain range of between -0.4 and -1.3. Texture measurement was carried out on the compression planes by the Schulz reflection method using nickel filtered Cu Kα radiation. EBSD measurement was also conducted in order to observe spatial distribution of orientation. As a result of high temperature deformation, the main component of texture and its development vary depending on deformation condition of this study.

High speed machining (HSM), specifically end milling and ball end cutting, is attracting interest in the die/mold or aerospace industries for the machining of complex 3D surfaces. HSM of difficult-to-cut materials such as die/mold steels, titanium alloys or nickel based superalloys generates the concentrated thermal/frictional damage at the cutting edge of the tool and rapidly decreases the tool life. Following a brief introduction on HSM and reated aerospace or die/mold work, the paper reviews published data on the effect of cutter/workpiece orientation and cutting environments on tool performance. First, experimental work is detailed on the effect of cutter orientation on tool life, cutting forces, chip formation, specific force and workpiece surface roughness. Cutting was performed using 8 mm diameter PVD coated solid carbide cutters with the workpiece mounted at an angle of 45 degree from the cutter axis. A horizontal downwards cutting orientation proveded the best tool life with cut lengths ∼50% longer than for all other directions (horizontal upwards, vertical downwards, vertical upwards). Second, the cutting environments were investigated for dry, flood coolant, and compressed chilly air coolant cutting. The experiments were performed for various hardened materials and various coated tools. The results show that the cutting environment using compressed cilly air coolant provided better tool life than the flood coolant or the dry.
Aluminum alloy matrix may be used for manufacturing lighter automobiles. However, galvanic corrosion may occur between the rivet joint combining aluminum alloy matrix and a CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) laminate. The possibility of galvanic corrosion may be investigated by measuring galvanic couple currents. Two types of galvanic current measuring methods were used. One method is to use potentiodynamic polarization curves and the other is the ZRA (zero resistance ammeter) method. For galvanic corrosion experiments graphite, a major component of CFRP, was used with carbon steel (rivets) and 6061 aluminum alloys. Regardless of carbon steel, Ni deposited carbon steel, and 316L stainless steels we also investigated the possibility of reduction in galvanic corrosion. Results revealed that even though Ni deposited carbon steel or 316L stainless rivet may slightly increase galvanic current density between those and Al matrix, substitute rivets for carbon steel may be considerably useful for reducing overall galvanic corrosion.

When drilling through Inconel 601 nickel-chromium-based alloys, a large amount of cutting oil is required to prevent tools from wear and fracturing due to heat buildup resulting from the high temperature resistance and toughness of this alloy. However, cutting oil supply has become a factor compromising the machining environment, and this has caused attention to shift to a more environmentally friendly cutting fluid supply system called minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). Our aim in this study was to find a more efficient drill processing method using MQL, and to verify its performance. To that end, we proposed a sealed cover, a step feed, and POSS-type cutting oil as measures to increase the effectiveness of MQL in view of the cutting force and tool wear, and established an improvement in efficiency using the proposed measures.

Solvothermal treatment of late transition metal acetylacetonates in a novel medium composed either of pure acetophenone or acetophenone mixtures with amino alcohols offers a general approach to uniform hydrophilic metal nanoparticles with high crystallinity and low degree of aggregation. Both pure metal and mixed-metal particles can be accesses by this approach. The produced materials have been characterized by SEM-EDS, TEM, FTIR in the solid state and by Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis in solutions. The chemical mechanisms of the reactions producing nanoparticles has been followed by NMR. Carrying out the process in pure acetophenone produces palladium metal, copper metal with minor impurity of $Cu_2O$, and NiO. The synthesis starting from the mixtures of Pd and Ni acetylacetonates with up to 20 mol% of Pd, renders in minor yield the palladium-based metal alloy along with nickel oxide as the major phase. Even the synthesis starting from a mixed solution of $Cu(acac)_2$ and $Ni(acac)_2$ produces oxides as major products. The situation is improved when aminoalcohols such as 2-aminoethanol or 2-dimethylamino propanol are added to the synthesis medium. The particles in this case contain metallic elements and pairs of individual metals (not metal alloys) when produced from mixed precursor solutions in this case.
In order to compare the strength of soldered joints relative to the various sol dering method, soldering processes were performed using Palladium based ceramo-metal alloy(Bond-on 4)and Nickel-cromium alloy(Vera Bond). The obtained data include difference in strength between presoldering and postsoldering The data also contain difference among postsoldered groups for 3 difference soldering methods(torch, infrared. Oven) The following results were obtained : 1. For postsoldering with Pd alloy, the oven-using group showed the highest strength while the difference in strength between the torch-using group and the infrared machine group was negligible. 2. For Pd alloy with the torch method, postsoldering resulted in the higher strength than presoldering. 3. There was a negligible difference in strength between presoldering and postsoldering when Ni-Cr alloy with torch method is used. 4. Through microscopic study of the fractured surfaces, the torch-using group showed more porosity than both the oven-using and the infrared machine groups. 5. In terms of fracturing patterns, the oven-using group showed adhesive failure while both the torch and the infrared machine groups showed cohesive failure and cohesive-adhesive failure.
Dental porcelains are widely used for restorative material because of its excellent esthetic property. But according to contact with natural teeth or metal in oral cavity, the porcelain may be worn and may effect on masticatory physiology and prosthetic function. The purpose of this experiment was to study on wear of porcelain surface which treated in different method. Using the abrasion device which was designed and constructed by myself, the different porcelain surface were abraded by gold alloy, nickel-chrome alloy and natural teeth in order to compare roughness. Results were as follows. 1. The group of porcelain abraded by gold alloy showed less surface roughness change (t=2.92, p<0.05), and the group of porcelain abraded by natural teeth had high surface roughness. change (t=6.84, p<0.05). 2. According to the method of surface treatment, the surface roughness were very significant (F=9.12, p<0.05). 3. After abrading, the porcelain surface roughness change was very significant (F=54.49, p<0.05). 4. There was no significant between surface treatment method and the kind of abrading materials. (F=1.01, p>0..05). 5. The group of natural glazing had the most smooth surface ($2.1{\pm}1.13{\mu}m$).
Carbon nanofibers were prepared from the decomposition of various carbon-containing gases over pure Ni, pure Fe and their alloys with Cu. They yields, properties, and structure of carbon nanofibers obtained from the various reaction conditions were analyzed. Type of reacting gas, reaction temperature and catalyst composition were changed as the reaction variable. With Ni-Cu catalysts, the maximum yields of carbon nanofibers were obtained at temperatures between 550 and 650$^{\circ}C$ according to the reacting gas mixtures of C2H2-H2, C2H4-H2 and C3H8-H2, and the surface areas of the carbon nanofibers produced were 20∼350㎡/g. In the case of CO-H2 mixture, the rapid deposition of carbon nanofibers occurred with Fe-Cu catalyst and the maximum yield were obtained around 550$^{\circ}C$ with the range of surface areas of 140∼170㎡/g. The electrical resistivity of carbon nanofiber regarded as the key property of filler for the application of electromagnetic interference shielding was very sensitive to the type of reactant gas and the catalyst composition ranging 0.07∼1.5Ωcm at a pressure of 10000 psi, and the resistivity of carbon nanofibers produced over pure nickel catalyst were lower than those over alloy catalysts. SEM observation showed that the carbon nanofibers produced had the diameters ranging 20∼300 nm and the straight structure of carbon nanofibers changed into the twisted or helical conformation by the variation of reacting gas and catalyst composition.
The mechanism of a matrix modification for the trace determination of volatile lead and bismuth by an electro-thermal atomic absorption spectrophotometry was studied by a X-ray diffractometry (XRD). For the investigation of structures, the ash products of the elements were produced by using a palladium as a matrix modifier with or without aluminum or nickel as an auxiliary modifier. The same charring conditions as in the analysis of samples were applied together with much concentrated solution of analytical elements and modifiers in a graphite furnace to get a large amount of the product for XRD. The XRD patterns showed PbPd3 for lead and BiPd3 for bismuth. These mean that the reaction procedures through the charring and atomization were changed from $Pb^{2+}$${\rightarrow}$ PbO ${\rightarrow}$$Pb^0$ to $Pb^{2+}$${\rightarrow}$ PbO ${\rightarrow}PbPd_3$${\rightarrow}$ Pb o for lead and from $Bi^{3+}$${\rightarrow}$ BiO ${\rightarrow}$ Bi o to $Bi^{3+}$${\rightarrow}$ BiO ${\rightarrow}$$BiPd_3$${\rightarrow}$$Bi^0$ for bismuth by the addition of modifiers. The volatile elements were stabilized by the formation of palladium alloys through a charring process. Charring temperatures were raised about 500 $^{\circ}C$ by the alloying and the atomization was also stabilized for the enhancement of sensitivities.
