  • The effect of Cu substitution on the properties of NiZn ferrites sintered at low temperature with composition is investigated. The densification of NiCuZn ferrite in dependent upon Cu content in the composition of (N/sub 0.5-x/Cu/sub x/ Zn/sub 0.5/O)(Fe/sub 2/O/sub 3/)/sub 0.98/. Electrical resistivity is maximum at x=0.2. Dispersion characteristics of complex permeability of (Ni/sub 0.5-x/ Cu/sub x/Zn/sub 0.5/O)(Fe/sub 2/O/sub 3)/sub 0.98/ is observed above x=0.3 and relaxation frequency increases with higher temperature. The magnetic loss of NiCuZn ferrite is occurred above the Cu content x=0.3 at a low frequency.

  • NiZn-ferrite was synthesized from waste catalysts, which were produced from styrene monomer process and buried underground as an industrial wastes, and its magnetic properties were investigated. Nickel oxide and zinc oxide powders were mixed with finely ground waste catalysts, and spinel type ferrite was obtained by calcination at 900$\^{C}$ and sintering at 1230$\^{C}$ for 5 hours. The intial permeability was measured and reflection loss was calculated from S-parameters for the composition of Ni$\_$x/Zn$\_$1-x/Fe$_2$O$_4$(x=0.36, 0.50, 0.66). NiZn-ferrite synthesized from waste iron oxide catalyst showed a feasibility for the use as electromagnetic wave absorber in X-band.

  • With the development of electromagnetic communication technology and increased use of electromagnetic wave, the countermeasure of EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) becomes more important socially, and interest for the electromagnetic wave absorber has also increased. In this paper, we have studied characteristics of frequency dependency on complex permittivity and complex permeability according to the changes of composition rate and sintering temperature of NiCuZn ferrite also known as electromagnetic wave absorber and further looked into effect of electromagnetic wave absorption properties. From the measurement where the composition of $Fe_2O_3$ and ZnO of NiCuZn ferrite was fixed at 49 and 34 mol% respectively while composition of NiO and CuO has been varied at each test, we found out that Initial permeability and permittivity were high and the absorbing ability of electromagnetic wave recorded best with $loss tangent(=\mur"/\mur')$ displays more than 1 within the frequency band of 2MHz~9.5MHz when the composition ratio of NiO was ranged around 8.5~9.5 mol% and the sintering temperature was $1080^{\circ}C$.TEX>.

  • Thermodynamic modeling of the $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ complex ferrite system has been adopted as a rational approach to establish routes to better synthesis conditions for pure phase $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ complex ferrite. Quantitative analysis of the different reaction equilibria involved in the precipitation of $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ from aqueous solutions has been used to determine the optimum synthesis conditions. The spinel ferrites, such as magnetite and substitutes for magnetite, with the general formula $MFe_2O_4$, where M= $Fe^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$, and $Ni^{2+}$ are prepared by coprecipitation of $Fe^{3+}$ and $M^{2+}$ ions with a stoichiometry of $M^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$= 0.5. The average particle size of the as synthesized $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$, measured by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), is 14.2 nm, with a standard deviation of 3.5 nm the size when calculated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) is 16 nm. When $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite is annealed at elevated temperature, larger grains are formed by the necking and mass transport between the $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite nanoparticles. Thus, the grain sizes of the $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ gradually increase as heat treatment temperature increases. Based on the results of Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) analysis, it is found that the hydroxyl groups on the surface of the as synthesized ferrite nanoparticles finally decompose to $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ crystal with heat treatment. The results of XRD and TEM confirmed the nanoscale dimensions and spinel structure of the samples.

  • We have synthesized the low temperature sintered of Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite with nonstoichiometric composition a little deficient in $Fe_2O_3$ from $(Ni_{0.2}Cu_{0.2}Zn_{0.6})_{1+x}(Fe_2O_3)_{1-x}$. For low loss and acceleration of grain growth $TiO_2$ and $Li_2CO_3$ was added from 0.25 mol% to 1.0 mol%. The mixture of the law materials was calcinated and milled. The compacts of toroidal type were sintered at different temperature $(875^{\circ}C,\;900^{\circ}C,\;925^{\circ}C\;950^{\circ}C)$ for 2 hours in air followed by an air cooling. Then, effects of composition and sintering temperatures on the physical properties such as density, resistivity, magnetic induction, coercive force, initial permeability, and quality factor of the Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite were investigated. The density of the Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite was $4.85\sim5.32g/cm^3$, resistivity revealed $10^8\sim10^{12}\Omega-cm$. The magnetic properties obtained from the aforementioned Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite specimens were 1,300 gauss for the maximum induction, 4.5 oersted for the coercive force, 275 for the initial permeability, and 83 for the quality factor. The physical properties indicated that the specimens could be utilized as the core of high frequency range (involved microwave range) communication and deflection yoke of T.V.

  • We investigated the effect of substrate on the properties of the Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite thin films deposited on SiO2 (1000∼3000${\AA}$) / Si (100) substrate at various conditions by rf magnetron sputtering. A disktype Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite sintered by conventional ceramic process and argon gas were used as a target and a sputtering gas, repectively. The compositions of the thin films measured by EPMA were similar to target composition (Fe: 65.8 at%, Ni: 12.7 at%, Cu: 6.7 at%, Zn: 14.8 at%) irrespective of substrate temperature. Amorphous thin films were deposited when substrate was not intentionally heated, but the films came to crystallize with increasing substrate temperature, and crystalline thin films were deposited at substrate temperature above 200$^{\circ}C$. Below 250$^{\circ}C$ saturation magnetization (Ms), remanence (Mr) and coercivity (Hc) of the ferrite thin film increased with the substrate temperature due to the increase of grain size and the improvement of crystallinity. And above 250$^{\circ}C$, Ms, Mr increased slightly, but Hc of the amorphous thin films increased due to crystallization, whereas that of the crystalline thin films decreased because of grain growth and stress release.

  • In order to apply a complex multilayer chip LC filter, this study has estimated the interfacial reaction and coupling properties of dielectric materials $Pb(Fe_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3$ and Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite materials through low-temperature co-sintering (LTCS). PFN powders were fabricated using double calcinated at $700^{\circ}C$ and then $850^{\circ}C$. While the perovskite phase rate was found to be 91 %, after heat treatment at $900^{\circ}C$ for 6h, the perovskite phase rate and density exhibited a value of 100 % and 7.46$g/cm^3$, respectively. The PFN/Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite, PFN/CUO (or $Pb_2Fe_2O_5$) and ferrite/CuO (or $Pb_2Fe_2O_5$) were mechanically coupled through interfacial reactions after the specimen was co-sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ for 6 h. No intermediate layer exists for the mutual coupling reaction. This result indicates the possibility of low-temperature co-sintering without any interfacial reaction layer for a multilayer chip LC filter.

  • The present investigation provides an electromagnetic radiation absorptive composition which comprises silver-coated ferrite microspheres dispersed in silicon rubber matrix for the aim of thin microwave absorber in GHz frequencies. Ni-Zn ferrite spheres with $50{\mu}m$ size in average were prepared by spray-drying and sintering at $1130^{\circ}C$. Conductive silver layer was plated on ferrite spheres by electroless plating. Conductive Ni-Zn ferrite sphere with uniform silver layer were obtained in the concentration of 10 g/L $AgNO_3$ per 20 g ferrite spheres. For this powder, electrical resistance is reduced as low as $10^{-2}\~10^{-3}\;\Omega$. The most sensitive material parameters with silver plating is real and imaginary parts of complex permittivity. The conductive Ni-Zn ferrite spheres have large values of dielectric constant. Due to this high dielectric constant of microspheres, matching thickness is reduced to as low as 2 mm at the frequency of 7 GHz, which is much thinner than conventional ferrite absorbers.
