Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Tetrakis(2-ethylimidazole)bis(thiocyanate-N) nickel(II) Complex (Tetrakis(2-ethylimidazole)bis(thiocyanate-N) nickel(II) 착물의 합성 및 결정구조)

  • The title complex, $Ni(L)_4(NCS)_2$(1) (L=2-ethylimidazole) has been synthesized and charac-terized by X-ray single crystallography. The complex 1 crystallizes in the tertragonal system P4nc space group with a=10.587(2), $c=12.927(3){\AA}$, Z=2m, $R_1$=0.581 and $wR_$=0.1675 for 672 independent reflection. The central Ni(II) atom of the complex has a regular octa-hedral coordination geometry, with the 2-ethylimidazole ligands bonding through nitrogen atom and the isothiocyanate ligands bonding through nitrogen atom in a trans arrangement.

Suppression of Interfacial Segregation and Control of Microstructure for Improvement of Mechanical Properties of W-Ni-Fe Heavy Alloy (계면편석 억제와 미세구조 조절에 의한 중합금의 기계적성질 향상)

  • In mechanical testing of W-Ni-Pe heavy alloys, the cracks nucleate at W/W interface and propagate through W/ Imatrix interface or through matrix phase together with the cleavage of W grains. The mechanical properties can therefore be improved by control of the interfacial strength and area. In this presentation, some experimental result and techniques on this subject will be reviewed and discussed. The hydrogen embrittlement caused by the hydrogen segregation at interfaces during sintering in an hydrogen atmosphere can be removed by an heat-treattnent in vacuum or in an inert atmosphere. The heat-treatment condition can be estimated by using a diffusion equation for a cylindrical shape. The mechanical properties, in particular the impact property, are degraded by the segregation of non-metallic impurities, such as Sand P. The degradation can be prevented by adding a fourth element, such as La or Ca, active with the non-metallic impurities. The cyclic heat-treatment at usual heat-treattnent tempemture causes the penetration of matrix between W/W grain boundaries and results in remarkable increase in impact energy. This is due to an increase in the area of ductile failure during the impact test. The instability of W/matrix interface casued by addition of Mo or Re can be controlled by using W powders of different size. The increase in the interfacial area in found to be related to the presence of non-equilibrium pure W gmins among W(Mo or Re) solid solution gmins.

  • In this study, the structural, dielectric and piezoelectrical properties of $xPb(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})O_3-(1-x)[0.41Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.36PbTiO_3-0.23P Zr)_3]$ (x=0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05) system ceramics were investigated. The dielectric constant ${\varepsilon_{33}}^{\tau}$ at loon temperature increased up to 3mol% PMW and decreased with further PMW content. The specimen with 1mol% $Pb(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})O_3$, which has the ${\varepsilon_{33}}^{\tau}=5509$, kp=59[%] and $d_{33}=758{\times}10^{-12}[C/N]$, exhibits good characteristics.

The Study on the Separation of the Subsidiary Elements in Iron and Steel by Using Ion Exchangers (I). The Separation of Cations (이온교환수지에 의한 철 및 강의 분석에 관한 연구 (제1보) 양이온 성분의 분리)

  • The quantitative separations of a mixture containing equal amounts of each cation such as Mn(Ⅱ), Cr(Ⅲ), V(Ⅴ), Cu(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ), Co(Ⅱ), and Fe(Ⅲ) are carried out by the elution through $35cm{\times}3.14cm^2$ column of cation exchange resin, $Dowex 50w{\times}12$. The eluents are a mixture of 0.6 M sodium chloride and 0.1 M sodium tartrate (pH = 2.00 and 4.50) for Fe(Ⅲ), V(Ⅴ), Cu(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ) and Co(Ⅱ), and a mixture of 3 M sodium chloride and 0.1 M sodium tartrate (pH = 4.50) or a mixture of 0.7 M sodium chloride and 0.5 M sodium oxalate (pH = 4.50 and 5.00) for Mn(Ⅱ) and Cr(Ⅲ). The subsidiary cations in a standard iron mixture such as V(Ⅴ), Cu(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ), Mn(Ⅱ) and Cr(Ⅲ) are separated together from the large amount of Fe(Ⅲ) through $15cm{\times}3.14cm^2$ column of the resin, $Dowex 1{\times}8$, by elution with the eluent of 4.0 M hydrochloric acid. A small amount of Fe(Ⅲ), however, is eluted together with Cu(Ⅱ). V(Ⅴ), Ni(Ⅱ), Mn(Ⅱ) and Cr(Ⅲ) eluted together are separated quantitatively through $10cm{\times}3.14cm^2$ column of the resin,$Dowex 50w{\times}12$. Cu (Ⅱ) and a small amount of Fe(Ⅲ) are separated quantitatively through $10cm{\times}3.14cm^2$ column of the resin, $Dowex 50w{\times}12$, by the elution with a mixture of 0.6 M sodium chloride and 0.1 M sodium tartrate (pH = 2.00 and 4.50) as an eluent. By the conditions obtained in the separations of the standard iron mixture, Fe(Ⅲ) and all of the subsidiary cations in steel are quantitatively separated.

  • The stability of alumina-coated NiO cathodes was studied in $Li_{0.62}/K_{0.38}$ molten carbonate electrolyte. Alumina was effectively coated on the porous Ni plate using galvanostatic pulse plating method. The deposition mechanism of alumina was governed by the concentration of hydroixde ions near the working electrode, which was controlled by the temperature of bath solution. Alumina-coated NiO cathodes were formed to $A1_2O_3-NiO$ solid solution by the oxidation process and their Ni solubilities were were than that of NiO up to the immersion time of 100h. However, their Ni solubilities increased and were similar to that of the bare NiO cathode after 100h. It was because aluminum into the solid solution was segregated to $\alpha-LiAlO_2$ on the NiO and its Product did not Play a role of the Physical barrier against NiO dissolution.

  • The complex [NiL₃]Cl₂·3H₂O (1) (L=trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The compound 1 crystallizes in the cubic space group P2₁3, with a=13.830(1) Å, V=2645.9(2) ų, Z=4, R₁(wR₂) for 1500 observed reflections of [I> 2σ(I)] was 0.0766 (0.2068).

Electronic Structures and Physical Properties of the Ordered and Disordered $Ni_2$MnGa Alloy Films

  • In this study, the electronic structures and physical properties of Ni$_2$MnGa alloy films and their dependence on the order-disorder structural transitions were investigated. The results show that the ordered films behave nearly the same as the bulk $Ni_2$MnGa alloy, including the martensitic transformation at 200 K. Unexpectedly, the disordering in $Ni_2$MnGa alloy films does not lead to any appreciable magnetic ordering down to 4 K. An annealing of the disordered films restores the ordered structure with an almost full recovery of the magnetic and the transport properties of the ordered $Ni_2$MnGa alloy films. A possible explanation of the disappearance of magnetic moment in the disordered film is given by using the ab initio first-principles electronic-structure calculations.

  • 1960년 Au-Si계 합금에서 처음으로 비정질상이 급속 응고법에 의해 보고된 이래/sup 1)/ 지난 40년 간 많은 합금계에서 비정질상이 보고되어졌다. 대표적으로 Fe-, Ni-, Co기 합금 등 많은 합금계에서 비정질상이 보고되었으나, 비정질상의 형성을 위해서는 약 105 K/s이상의 높은 냉각속도를 필요로 하였다. 1980년대 수백 K/s의 낮은 냉각속도 하에서도 비정질상이 형성될 수 있는 다원계 합금(multi-component alloy)이 Mg-Ln-(Ni, Cu, Zn), Ln-Al-TM 합금에서 보고되어 졌으나 많은 관심을 받지 못하다가 1993년 Zr-Ti-Ni-Cu-Be 합금에서 수 ㎝ 크기의 비정질합금 제조가 보고되면서 전 세계적으로 많은 관심을 받게 되었다. Zr-Ti-Ni-Cu-Be계 벌크 비정질 합금이 보고된 후 Zr-(Nb,Pd)-Al-TM, Pd-Cu-Ni-P, Fe-Co-Zr-Mo-W-B, Ti-Zr-Ni-Cu-Sn등 여러 합금계에서 벌크 비정질 합금이 보고되었다. (중략)

SPARING EFFECTS OF COBALT AND NICKEL ON ZINC NUTRITION IN PIGS

  • Three experiments were conducted to determine whether cobalt (Co) or nickel (Ni) could prevent zinc (Zn) deficiency signs in pigs fed a high calcium (Ca) corn-soybean diet. The basal diet contained 1.3% Ca, .93% phytic acid and means of 34 to 48 ppm Zn. After weanling, pigs in experiment I were fed the basal diet for 9 weeks, and was found that 50 ppm Co or Ni for 5 weeks increased average daily weight gain (ADG) and reversed skin lesions toward normal. These effects were similar to those of 100 ppm supplemental Zn. The Zn content and alkaline phosphatase activity of serum from pigs supplemented with Co or Ni were higher at 2 weeks and 4 weeks (P<.05) than those of the basal group. Zn content of bone, liver and kidney, and alkaline phosphatase activity in bone were increase after 5 weeks of supplementation with Co or Ni. In experiments 2 and 3, addition of 54 ppm and 27 ppm of either Co or Ni increased (P<.05) ADG and decreased incidence of skin lesions except in one group supplemented with 27 ppm Ni. Supplemental Co or Ni increased Zn in serum and alkaline phosphatase activity in serum and bone in both experiments. Over all experiments, supplemental Co or Ni decreased Zn deficiency signs in the following order of effectiveness: 54 ppm Co, 54 ppm Ni, 27 ppm Co and 27 ppm Ni. The alleviation of signs of Zn deficiency by Co or Ni may have been the result of increased availability of dietary Zn.
