The phase changes, nitride precipitation and hardness variations of 14%Cr-6.7Ni-0.65Mo-0.26Nb-0.05V-0.03C super martensitic stainless steel were investigated after nitrogen permeation heat treatment at a temperature range between $1050^{\circ}C$ and $1150^{\circ}C$. The nitrogen-permeated surface layer was transformed into austenite. The rectangular type NbN, NbCrN precipitates and fine round type precipitate were coexisted in the surface austenite layer, while the interior region that was free from nitrogen permeation kept the martensitic phase. The hardness of surface austenite showed 280 Hv, while the interior region of martensite phase represented 340 Hv. When tempering the nitrogen-permeated steel at $450^{\circ}C$, a maximum hardness of 433 Hv was appeared, probably this is attributed to the secondary hardening effect of the precipitates. The nitrogen concentration decreased gradually with increasing depth below the surface after showing a maximum of 0.3% at the outmost surface. The strong affinity between nitrogen and Cr enabled the substitutional element Cr to move from interiors to the surface when nitrogen diffuse form surface to the interior. Corrosion resistance of nitrogen permeated steel was superior to that of solution-anneaed steel in the solution of 1N $H_2SO_4$.
Phosphorus is an element that plays many important roles in powder metallurgy as an alloy element. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of phosphorus addition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of sintered low-alloy steel. The sintered low-alloy steels Fe-0.6%C-3.89%Ni-1.95%Cu-1.40%Mo-xP (x=0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20%) were manufactured by compacting at 700 MPa, sintering in H2-N2 at 1260 ℃, rapid cooling, and low-temperature tempering in Ar at 160 ℃. The microstructure, pore, density, hardness, and transverse rupture strength (TRS) of the sintered low-alloy steels were evaluated. The hardness increased as the phosphorus content increased, whereas the density and TRS showed maximum values when the content of P was 0.05%. Based on microstructure observation, the phase of the microstructure changed from bainite to martensite as the content of phosphorus is increased. Hence, the most appropriate addition of phosphorus in this study was 0.05%.
HAZ(Heat Affected Zone of weldm ents) properties were investigated for a high nitrogen austenitic stainless steel with a chemical composition of Fe-0.02C-0.15Si-6.00Mn-10.0Ni-23.0Cr-2.00Mo-0.48N-0.14V. Thermal cycle of HAZ was simulated by the thermal cycle simulator (Gleeble 1500). The heat treatment was applied to the Charpy test size sample without notch under various peak temperatures and/or the holding times condition. V-notch Charpy test was performed at the temperature range of 273~77 K. Metallographic examination also was carried out by using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The simulated specimens revealed a slight embrittlement compared with the base materials. The impact toughness of the specimens deteriorated with the decreasing test temperature. The results from Charpy V-notch test, however, showed that significant degradation of absorbed energy caused by brittle fracture was not observed for the specimen tested in the test temperature range.
Stainless steel is used commonly in nuclear applications for shielding radiation, so in this study, three different types of new stainless steel samples were designed and developed. New stainless steel compound ratios were determined by using Monte Carlo Simulation program Geant 4 code. In the sample production, iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), silicium (Si), sulphur (S), carbon (C), molybdenum (Mo), manganese (Mn), wolfram (W), rhenium (Re), titanium (Ti) and vanadium (V), powder materials were used with powder metallurgy method. Total macroscopic cross sections, mean free path and transmission number were calculated for the fast neutron radiation shielding by using (Geant 4) code. In addition to neutron shielding, the gamma absorption parameters such as mass attenuation coefficients (MACs) and half value layer (HVL) were calculated using Win-XCOM software. Sulfuric acid abrasion and compressive strength tests were carried out and all samples showed good resistance to acid wear and pressure force. The neutron equivalent dose was measured using an average 4.5 MeV energy fast neutron source. Results were compared to 316LN type stainless steel, which commonly used in shielding radiation. New stainless steel samples were found to absorb neutron better than 316LN stainless steel at both low and high temperatures.

Short-term high temperature degradation test was conducted on Hastelloy X, a candidate tube material for high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR), to evaluate the variation of microstructure and mechanical property in air at $1050^{\circ}C$ during 2000 h. The dominant oxide layer was Cr-oxide and a very shallow Cr-depleted region was observed below the oxide layer. At the beginning of degradation, the island shape $M_6C$ precipitate (M=Mo-rich, Fe, Ni, Cr) was observed in matrix region. After 2000 h degradation, precipitate shape was changed to the chain shape and increased amount of precipitate. These results influenced mechanical property of the specimen which exposed in high temperature. Yield strength was decreased from 115MPa to 89 MPa after 24 h and 2000 h exposure, respectively.
Titanium carbide(TiC) has a poor sinterability due to the strong covalent bond. Thus, it is generally fabricated by either hot pressing or pressureless-sintering at elevated temperature by the addition of sintering aids such as nickel(Ni), molybdenum(Mo) and cobalt(Co). However, these sintering methods have the following disadvantages; (1) the complicated process, (2) the high energy consumption, and (3) the possibility of leaving inevitable impurities in the product, etc. In order to reduce above disadvantages, we investigated the optimum conditions under which dense titanium carbide bodies could be synthesized and sintered simultaneously by high pressure self-combustion sintering(HPCS) method. This method makes good use of the explosive high energy from spontaneous exothermic reaction between titanium and carbon. The optimum conditions for the nearly full-densification were as follows; (1) The densification of sintered body becomes high by increasing the pressing pressure from 400kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ upto 1200 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. (2) Instead of adding the coarse graphite or activated carbon, the fine particles of carbon black should be added as a carbon source. (3) The optimum molar ratio of carbon to titanium (C/Ti) was unity. In reality, titanium carbide body which were prepared under optimum conditions had relatively dense textures with the apparent porosity of 0.5% and the relative density of 98%.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the metal coping design on the fracture resistance of ceramometal crown. The Ni-Cr alloy(Supranium, Krupp Co., German) and Vaccm-fired porcelain powder(Vita VMK 689, Vita Co., Germany) were used in this study. The measurement of fracture resisitance of ceramometal crown was done with Instron Universial Testing Machine(Instro Co., Model no.4201). The obained results were as fellows : 1. The fracture resistance measured at the buccal cusp tip was the highest value in the group that those position of ceramometal junction was 2mm superior to the lingual finshing margin(100.25Kg) and the fracture resistance revealed on order of the group that those position was 2mm buccal to the central groove(51.64Kg). 2. The fracture resistance measured at the central groove was higher value in the group that those position was 2mm lingual to the central groove than in the group that those position was 2mm lingual to the central groove than in the group that those position was 2mm superior to lingual finishing margin(132.48Kg). 3. In all cases, the fracture resistance at the central groove was higher than that at the buccal cusp tip.

An experimental is carried out to investigate the characteristics of blanking for nickel alloy Alloy42 (t=0.203mm), a kind of IC lead frame material. By varying clearance between die and punch the shapes of shear profile are examined. Finite element analysis with element deletion algorithm for ductile fracture mode is also carried out to study the effect of clearance theoretically and to compare with experimental results. The rectangular shape specimen with four different comer radius is used to study the characteristics of blanking for straight side and comer region simultaneously. As the result the ratios measured k(m experiment of roll over, burnish and fracture zone based on initial blank thickness are compared with those of FE analysis. Both experiment and FE analysis show that the amount of mil over and fracture is increased as the clearance increases. When the radius of comer is less than thickness of blank it has been found that larger clearance is required than that of straight region in order to maintain same quality of shear profile at the comer region.
In this study, friction-wear test was carried out on the carburized layer depth of a mechanical structure steel SNCM carburized with RX and LPG for 7hrs at $930^{\circ}C$ and also the wear properties of wear loss, wear rate, coefficient of friction, friction force and friction temperature were investigated. The wear properties for carburized layer of SNCM were tested on dry condition at the room temperature by the thrust load of 49~245N range at sliding speed of 0.2m/sec and the sliding speed of 0.2~1.0m/sec range at thrust load of 98N. Wear loss on the depth of carburizing layer was increased with increasing of thrust load and sliding speed, and with decreasing of hardness. The condition of worn surfaces were showed mild wear at less than the thrust load of 98N and sliding speed of 0.6m/sec but were showed severe wear at more than 98N and 0.6m/sec. The friction load and temperature were increased with increasing of thrust load but with increasing sliding speed was appeared minimum at 0.6m/sec. With increasing thrust load the wear rate was increased and the coefficient of friction was decreased, but with increasing sliding speed the wear rate and the coefficient of friction were decreased in 0.2~0.6m/sec and increased in 0.6~1.0m/sec, therefore 0.6m/sec in this testing is a transition velocity.
