  • The Ni oxide/PVP nanofibers were synthesized by sol-gel and electrospinning technique. The obtained Ni oxide/PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) nanofibers were calcined to remove the PVP compound at 873 and 1173 K. The Ni oxide/PVP nanofibers were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The SEM images showed that the mat form was prepared by calcination of Ni oxide/PVP nanofibers at 873 K. And the crystal structure of Ni oxide at 1173 K was also confirmed by SEM images. XRD results shows the crystallinity of metallic Ni and NiO. TEM images also verified the crystal phase of Ni and Ni oxide. XP spectra revealed that the oxidation state of Ni to conclude the chemical composition of Cu oxide nanofibers.

  • Nickel oxide nanofibers were synthesized by electrospinning with nickel(II) acetate tetrahydrate and polyvinylpyrrolidone and calcination process. The nanofiber shape was easily detected from the nanofibers with high Ni contents after calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ and the crystal structure of layer-by-layer growth was observed from SEM images at $900^{\circ}C$. XRD and TEM results showed metallic Ni and NiO structure were formed at nanofibers obtained at 600 and $900^{\circ}C$ and the crystallite size was calculated from 25 to 55 nm. The surface of nanofibers was fully oxidized from the deconvoluted Cu 2p and O 1s XPS spectra.

  • FeNi alloy nanofibers have been prepared by an electrospinning process followed by air-calcination and H2 reduction to develop electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbers in the giga-hertz (GHz) frequency range. The thermal behavior and phase and morphology evolution in the synthetic processes were systematically investigated. Through the heat treatments of calcination and H2 reduction, as-spun PVP/FeNi precursor nanofiber has been stepwise transformed into nickel iron oxide and FeNi phases but the fibrous shape was maintained perfectly. The FeNi alloy nanofiber had the high aspect ratio and the average diameter of approximately 190 nm and primarily composed of FeNi nanocrystals with an average diameter of ~60 nm. The FeNi alloy nanofibers could be used for excellent EM wave absorbing materials in the GHz frequency range because the power loss of the FeNi nanofibers increased up to 20 GHz without a degradation and exhibited the superior EM wave absorption properties compared to commercial FeNi nanoparticles.

  • Polyvinyl pyrrolidone nanofibers including nickel, zinc, and iron precursors were fabricated via the electrospinning method. To convert as-spun nanofibers to Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 oxide nanof ibers which is capable of shielding an electromagnetic wave, heat treatment conditions were optimized. To obtain the heat treatment condition that can exclude amorphous carbon black and secondary crystal phase, samples were taken at each temperature while the calcination process and analyzed. According to the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, the Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 crystal phase started to appear from 300℃, but it was confirmed through energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis that heat treatment of 500℃ or more was required to remove most of the carbon black. When the calcination temperature exceeds 650℃, crystal nuclei starts to grow and the fiber surface condition becomes rough, so it was confirmed that the heat treatment conditions should be selectively determined according to the application field.

  • Nano-fibers of the $Li[Ni_{1/3}Co_{1/3}Mn_{1/3}]O_2$ electrode were synthesized from a metal oxide precursor using the electrospun method. The XRD patterns of all prepared powders showed a hexagonal ${\alpha}$ - $NaFeO_2$ structure (space group: R-3 m, 166). Scanning electron microscopy showed that all the synthesized samples were comprised of nanofibers with a size of 100~800 nm. Among the samples tested, the calcined $Li[Ni_{1/3}Co_{1/3}Mn_{1/3}]O_2$ nanowires in oxygen heating atmosphere showed a high charge and discharge capacity of 239.22 and 172.81 $mAhg^{-1}$ at the $1^{st}$ cycle, respectively. In addition, the charge transfer resistance was also improved significantly compared to the other samples.

  • Flower-like nickel oxide (NiO) catalysts were coated on NiCrAl alloy foam using a hydrothermal method. The structural, morphological, and chemical bonding properties of the NiO catalysts coated on the NiCrAl alloy foam were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. To obtain flower-like morphology of NiO catalysts on the NiCrAl alloy foam, we prepared three different levels of pH of the hydrothermal solution: pH-7.0, pH-10.0, and pH-11.5. The NiO morphology of the pH-7.0 and pH-10.0 samples exhibited a large size plate owing to the slow reaction of the hydroxide ($OH^-$) and nickel ions ($Ni^+$) in lower pH than pH-11.5. Flower-like NiO catalysts (${\sim}4.7{\mu}m-6.6{\mu}m$) were formed owing to the fast reaction of $OH^-$ and $Ni^{2+}$ by increased $OH^-$ concentration at high pH. Thus, the flower-like morphology of NiO catalysts on NiCrAl alloy foam depends strongly on the pH of the hydrothermal solution.
