  • This study is a discussion of business process reengineering for the next generation information system. To be concrete, we analyze and reengineer the current business process in administration of academic, general and research. This reengineering is conformed by 5 steps, as analyzing environmental status that figures out factors of inside or outside (environmental analyzing), analyzing current condition that diagnoses AS-IS process (current situation analysis), establishing information-oriented vision with strategic accomplishing goals accordingly (visioning), deducing detailed improving tasks (defining tasks), and engineering TO-BE process comprehending improving matters (engineering model). This paper shows BPR model for next generation information system.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the major features of Next Generation Library Catalogs. 'Next Generation Melvyl Pilot' of University of California Library System and 'SearchWorks' of Stanford University Library are examined. While the former is developed, based on OCLC WorldCat Local, the latter is based on the Blacklight, an Open Source Catalog Software. Both commonly provide the features, including enriched contents, facet navigation, keyword searching, relevancy ranking of search results, and user contribution, etc., but some functions vary in scopes and contents. Also, it seems that both are in process of development rather than complete implementations.

  • Global data center IP traffic is expected to reach 20.6 zettabytes (ZB) by the end of 2021. Intra-data center networks (Intra-DCN) will account for 71.5% of the data center traffic flow and will be the largest portion of the traffic. The understanding of traffic distribution in IntraDCN is still sketchy. It causes significant amount of bandwidth to go unutilized, and creates avoidable choke points. Conventional transport protocols such as Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and Optical Burst Switching (OBS) allow a one-sided view of the traffic flow in the network. This therefore causes disjointed and uncoordinated decision-making at each node. For effective resource planning, there is the need to consider joining the distributed with centralized management which anticipates the system's needs and regulates the entire network. Methods derived from Kalman filters have proved effective in planning road networks. Considering the network available bandwidth as data transport highways, we propose an intelligent enhanced SDN concept applied to OBS architecture. A management plane (MP) is added to conventional control (CP) and data planes (DP). The MP assembles the traffic spatio-temporal parameters from ingress nodes, uses Kalman filtering prediction-based algorithm to estimate traffic demand. Prior to packets arrival at edges nodes, it regularly forwards updates of resources allocation to CPs. Simulations were done on a hybrid scheme (1+1) and on the centralized OBS. The results demonstrated that the proposition decreases the packet loss ratio. It also improves network latency and throughput-up to 84 and 51%, respectively, versus the traditional scheme.

  • Next Generation Digital Maps on demand Updating System is a system for setup of efficient on-demand updating system, keeping up-to-date data and conducting high-quality service and efficient management. The system is designed that object-based continuous Digital Maps may have on-demand updating available, as well as the exiting feature-based digital maps, and the relevant development is being done. This study presented some problems and improvement plans related to the system operation, by means of implementing object-based continuous Digital Maps and feature-based digital maps updating test, for the next generation digital maps on demand updating system, in order to contribute to present plans to apply next generation digital maps and to secure competitiveness. And, for the economical efficiency of the next generation digital maps on demand updating system, this study analyzed expenses and benefit resulted from introduction of on demand updating system for 1:5,000 digital maps, intended for National Geographic Information Institute. and the land category which have an effect on the officially assessed land price and it using GIS technology.

  • Recently in the area of the information environment, there are lively discussions about search 2.0 which is representative of the next generation search services. In this study, we divide information search model into matching and linking models according the developmental stages. Therefore, on the one hand, we analyze the background, main concepts, related attributes and cases of the next generation search services and the other, we identify the representative keywords by the group analysis of various attributes and cases of it. The result shows that the main keywords such as social search, artificial intelligence and semantic search, and relation/network based search are representative of the search 2.0.

  • Event driven service (EDS) is one of such services administrating different functions of multiple service providers according to the user situation. This paper first describes the service model of EDS, a User-centric Service for multiple service provider environments over the next generation networks. The multiple provider environments stimulates the unified identifier management, namely unified identification (U-ID), to enable users to be provided network services without awareness of multiple providers. Combining these two concepts, i.e., EDS and U-ID, the designed structure of EDS with U-ID and related procedures are given. Finally, the implementation results tested on Korea Advanced Research Network (KOREN) are described.

  • This paper propose a simple and efficient scheme to deliver frames between TDM interfaces and IP interfaces in NGTSs. Next Generation Transport Systems (NGTSs) are new conceptual transmission equipments fur next generation network. They consist of TDM interfaces and IP interfaces. NGTSs are suitable fur high-speed transmission links such as SONET/SDH and Gigabit Ethernet. The proposed VLAN scheme for NGTSs is implemented successfully.
