  • Aerial algae were sampled from 28 sites on rocks, tree barks, and mosses along the Hongcheon-river in Gangwon-do, Korea, from December 2011 to September 2012 and then cultivated. Seven genera and eight species of the order Chlorococcales were newly recorded in Korea. These were Spongiococcum tetrasporum, Tetracystis aggregata, Myrmecia bisecta, Coenocystis inconstans, Lobosphaeropsis pyrenoidosa, Pseudococcomyxa simplex, Coelastrella oocystiformis, and C. vacuolata. As a result, the known Korean flora of the order Chlorococcales now includes 12 families with 54 genera, 263 species, 76 varieties, and 27 forma, giving a total of 366 taxa.

  • One of the small genera of the tribe Atrophini (subfamily Banchinae), the genus Amphirhachis, has been reported seven species in the world. Among them, four species (Amphirhachis fasciata, A. nigripalpis, A. rubriventris and A. tertia) from Oriental region, and four species(Amphirhachis fujiei, A. miyabi, A. nigra and A. tertia) from Eastern Palaearctic region. Unfortunately, there are no records in South Korea yet. This genus is easily distinguished from other genera of Atrophini following: clypeus strongly convex near side; posterior transverse carina of propodeum represented by a weak or faint vertical ridge at apex on each side; ovipositor sheath shorter than metasoma. In this study, the genus Amphirhachis is recorded for the first time with a newly recorded species (Amphirhachis tertia) from South Korea. New data on the taxonomy and distribution of Amphirhachis tertia are given. We also provide diagnosis and digital images of a newly recorded genus and species.

  • A total of 69 genera and 202 species of the family Syrphidae have been previously recognized in Korea. In the present study, we report the following 10 species new to Korea: Epistrophe aeka Kimura, 1989, Epistrophe aino (Matsumura, 1917), Epistrophe annulitarsis(Stackelberg, 1918), Epistrophe griseofasciata (Matsumura, 1918), Epistrophe sasayamana (Matsumura, 1918), Epistrophe shibakawae (Matsumura, 1917), Fagisyrphus cinctus (Fallén, 1817), Melangyna olsufjevi (Violovitsh, 1956), Melangyna pavlovskyi (Violovitsh, 1956), and Paragus clausseni Mutin, 1999. Among the four genera, the genus Fagisyrphus Dušek and Láska, 1967 is recognized for the first time in Korea. As a result, 70 genera and 212 species of the family Syrphidae are now officially recognized for the Korean fauna. For each newly recognized Korean species, we provide synonymy, diagnosis, and description with color photographs. In addition, we provide new Korean names for all newly recorded species as well as the genera Epistrophe, Fagisyrphus, and Melangyna, which previously did not have Korean names.

  • Abludomelita rotundactyla (Ren, 2012), belonging to the family Melitidae Bousfield, 1973 has been collected from Baengnyeongdo Island and Yangyang in Korea. This species was previously known from Yellow Sea, China and Sakhalin Island, Russia. Abludomelita rotundactyla is morphologically distinguished from congeners by gnathopod 2, palm excavate, defined by midventral acute process; gnathopod 2 with prominently plump dactylus; pleonites and urosomites dorsal formulae 7-9-9-5-4; and epimeron 3 with posterior serrations. The newly recorded species in Korea, A. rotundactyla is well accorded with the original description except for the number of pleonites dorsal teeth. The newly recorded species is described and fully illustrated in the present study. A key to the Abludomelita species in Korea is also provided. This additional record now brings the total recorded number of abludomelitid species to three in Korea.

  • A faunal study on Amphipods belonging to the class Malacostraca was conducted 26-29 August 2021 at 12 sites in Chujado Island, Korea. This study found that 68 amphipod species in 39 genera, 19 families were living on Chujado Island. Among these 19 families, the family Caprellidae (20 species) showed the highest abundance. Ampithoidae (7 species) and Dexaminidae (6 species) were subdominant families. The species Stenothoe valida Dana, 1852 (found at 10 of 12 sites) was the most frequent and widespread species. Caprella scaura Templeton, 1836 was identified at 9 of 12 sites and had the highest frequency of appearance among 20 species of Caprellidae. Among the 68 species, Ampithoe waialua J.L. Barnard, 1970 and Melita nagatai Yamato, 1987 are newly recorded species in Korean fauna. These newly recorded species are fully illustrated and compared with related species. We provide an amphipod fauna in Chujado Island with a list, figures, and a table.

  • A rare genus Leptodromiella Tuomikoski, 1936, which belongs to the subfamily Ocydromiinae in the family Hybotidae contains only one recorded speices, L. crassiseta (Tuomikoski, 1932). Until now, there is still no known ecological information about this genus, and its distribution was restricted to only in central and northern Europe, such as Finland, Sweden and Russia. In Korea, only one species, Bicellaria koreana Barták, Plant & Kubík, 2013, was recorded in the family Hybotidae from Mt. Baekdusan so far. Herein, the second genus Leptodromiella is newly recorded along with the nominate species, L. crassiseta (Tuomikoski, 1932) in Korean fauna. Re-description and illustrations of external features and male genitalia of the newly recorded species are provided in this paper.
