Effect of barrier rib morphologies on luminance of PDP

  • Closed-cell type barrier ribs such as honeycomb, SDR, inverse SDR and waffle types were produced using capillary molding process. Phosphor layers were formed by osmosis coating process on those barrier ribs. Using the rear plate with closed-cell ribs, the luminance and its efficiency was measured. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in efficiency by combining closed-cell type ribs with a new phosphor forming technology

  • This paper describes the development of a new type of an integrated optical filter using the frequency characteristics of a directly-connected directional coupler with a Rib waveguide. It has been designed for multiplexing and demultiplexing light froups in different wavelength regions. Also, the effects of higher modes, couplings between input waveguides or output waveguides, and dispersion of material are considered.

  • Due to recent technology advances, needs for flat panel displays, plasma display panels(PDPs) whose advantages are simple structure, high resolution, wide viewing angle is increasingly expected to be the first flat panel of large screen, walt hanging TVs. But the luminance and luminous efficiency of color PDP is net up to the level of a CRT. So, New electrode shape which is different from the conventional electrode has to propose to improve the luminance and luminous efficiency. In this paper, we suggested new shaped electrodes. In new shaped electrode, the discharge current was reduced compared with conventional type by reducing the unnecessary diffusion loss near the barrier rib. However, the luminance was nearly the same as conventional type. So, the luminous efficiency improved about 35%.

Behaviors of Joints with Perfobond Rib Shear Connectors in Steel-PSC Hybrid System (Perfobond Rib을 적용한 강-PSC 혼합구조 연결부의 거동 평가)

  • This paper studies the behavior of joints in steel-PSC (prestressed concrete) hybrid beams, which is necessary for the application of hybrid beams to spliced girder bridges, and proposes a new type of joint with improved construction convenience and structural behavior. In the proposed joint, perfobond rib shear connectors are attached to the upper and lower plates, which are expanded from the steel girders and located between the steel girder and the PSC girder. The experimental tests were performed on hybrid beams with the suggested joint. The results showed that all the beams had similar ultimate strengths and failure modes, due to the failure of their PSC parts. The composite action of the perfobond ribs was verified by examining the initial stiffness and cracks of the test beams. In addition, the test beams showed a higher degree of ultimate strength than the beams with stud shear connectors in the joints that had been previously studied. Thus, the proposed joint is effective for the steel-PSC hybrid beam.

  • In the present paper forward projection is proposed as a new approach to determine the preform shape in rib-web type forging. In the forward projection technique an optimal billet is determined by applying some mathematical relationship between geometrical trials in the initial billet shape and the final products. In forward projection a volume difference between the desired product shape and the final computed shape obtained by the rigid-plastic finite element method is used as a measure of incomplete filling of working material in the die. At first linear inter-/extrapolation is employed to find a proper trial shape for the initial billet and the method is successfully applied to some cases of different aspect ratios of the initial billet. However, when the initial guesses are not sufficiently near the optimal value linear inter-/extrapolation does not render complete die filling. For more general application, a fuzzy system is used in the forward projection technique in order to determine the initial billet shape for rib-web type forging. It has been thus shown that the fuzzy system is more reliable for the preform design in the rib-web type forging process.

  • The aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance of discharge grille of outdoor unit of air-conditioner was investigated in this study. Discharge grille is one of outdoor unit's important parts to affect the flow rate and Overall Sound Pressure Level(OSPL). New type of discharge grille was suggested based on the results of numerical simulation. To simulate the flow pattern near the propeller fan, commercial flow solver FLUENT was used. Sliding mesh method was used for rotating propeller fan and initial condition for unsteady model was calculated by Multiple Reference Frame(MRF) method. To minimize the interaction noise between fan blade wake and discharge grille, new discharge grille has radial rib which is aligned with trailing edge of fan blade. And inclined radial rib was adopted for reducing flow rate drop in discharge grille. The optimization of inclined angle of radial grille was performed experimentally.

  • The conventional pile cap reinforcement systems regulated in the design specifications have some restrictions in design and construction such as requirement of shear key, disposition of reinforcing bars and insurance of anchoring length of reinforcements. This study suggests a new type of steel pipe pile cap system with perforated flat bar shear connector as an alternative to the conventional pile cap system for the improvement in structural performance and simplification of construction. And, experimental results of push-out and bending behavior are scribed for the evaluation of structural performance of the new pile cap system and it was compared to the structural behavior of conventional pile cap system.

  • Tongwamen Bridge is a critical link between Dongmen Island and the land in Shipu town, Zhejiang province, China. It is a 238 m span, half-through, concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) X-type arch bridge. The width of the deck is only 10 m, yielding a width-to-span ratio of 1/23.8. The plane truss type section rib was adopted, which made of two CFST chords and web member system. The lateral stability is the key issue to this bridge. However, the existing researches on Tongwamen Bridge's lateral stability are all the deterministic structural analysis. In this paper, a new strategy for positioning sampling points of the response surface method (RSM), based on the composite method combining RSM with geometric method for structural reliability analysis, is employed to obtain the reliability index of lateral stability. In addition the correlated parameters were discussed in detail to find the major factors. According to the analysis results, increasing the stiff of lateral braces between the arch ribs and setting the proper inward-incline degree of the arch rib can enhance obviously the reliability of lateral stability. Moreover, the deck action of non-orienting force is less than the two factors above. The calculated results indicate that the arch ribs are safe enough to keep excellent stability, and it provides the foundation that the plane truss rib would be a competitive solution for a long-span, narrow, CFST arch bridge.

Tragus formation during concha-type microtia repair using a chondrocutaneous island flap

  • Formation of an ideally-shaped tragus remains one of the most challenging issues during staged tragus reconstruction in microtia patients. The authors describe a new method used to treat a unique case of concha-type microtia in which the 10-year-old male patient had only a portion of pre-existing cartilage at the tragus site. An anomalous skin lump was also present. During the initial stages of the reconstruction, the two-stage Nagata method was used for surgical correction of the microtia. An autologous rib cartilage graft was used to form the ear framework. A temporoparietal fascia flap was also constructed. Remnant skin tags and anomalous cartilage that accompany microtia are usually removed during microtia repair. However, the cartilage and skin lump were preserved during the reconstruction. The skin lump was later used to form a vascularized chondrocutaneous island flap that supplemented the portion of cartilage during tragus formation. The result was a new tragus that was satisfactorily improved in both size and shape. Patients with concha-type microtia may benefit from the use of this new method for tragus formation.

An Analytical Study on the Structural Behavior of the Composite Slab with New-Shaped Deckplate (신형상의 합성용 데크플레이트를 사용한 합성슬래브의 구조적 거동에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of the composite slabs with the new-shaped deckplate. In order to examine the deckplate as structural members, the composite slabs with new-shaped deckplate are compared and verified with the international design codes, and the simple inertia-moment equation of the composite slabs is suggested from the regression analysis of the results of the experiments. Besides, the finite element analysis was added on the purpose of the observation of structural behavior of the section items such as the Locking rib and the Dovetail. 36 experiments of composite slabs were performed with two new-type deckplates. And the finite-element analysis was performed by ABAQUS package with the function of the 3-dimension solid modeling.
