Three New Monotypic Genera of the Caloplacoid Lichens (Teloschistaceae, Lichen-Forming Ascomycetes)

  • Three monophyletic branches are strongly supported in a phylogenetic analysis of the Teloschistaceae based on combined data sets of internal transcribed spacer and large subunit nrDNA and 12S small subunit mtDNA sequences. These are described as new monotypic genera: Jasonhuria S. Y. Kondr., L. Lőkös et S. -O. Oh, Loekoesia S. Y. Kondr., S. -O. Oh et J. -S. Hur and Olegblumia S. Y. Kondr., L. Lőkös et J. -S. Hur. Three new combinations for the type species of these genera are proposed.

  • Cryptothecia austrocoreana is a new lichen species from South Korea. The species is characterized by the presence of a heteromerous thallus and faveolate ascigerous area (ascomata) immersed in a slightly raised thallus. The species has muriform ascospores, (4)6-8-spored $8-11{\times}3-4$ septate, $(34)36-48(51){\times}(17)19-23(25){\mu}m$. Atranorin, chloroatranorin, and barbatic acid are present. In the phylogenetic tree, C. austrocoreana belongs to the arthonioid clade in Arthoniaceae.

  • Three alpheid shrimps, Alpheus lobidens De Haan, 1850, A. malabaricus (Fabricius, 1775), and A. sudora Banner and Banner, 1966 are reported from southern part of Korea. They represent new records for the Korean marine fauna. Korean Alpheidae consist now of ten species belonging to four genera.

  • A new whitefly species, Pealius yunnanensissp. nov., collected from Mengzi, Caoba village (Yunnan, China) on Ficus microcarpa Linn. f. (Urticales: Moraceae), is described with morphology, line illustrations, photographs and scanning electron microscope images. In addition, a checklist of Chinese species of Pealius is provided and all Pealius species recorded from Ficus around the world are listed. Specimens have been deposited in the Insect Collection of Zhejiang Agriculture & Forestry University (ZAFU), Lin'an, China.

  • Several buellioid specimens were collected from South Korea during field surveys and two new species are described based on morphology, chemistry, and molecular phylogeny. Buellia boseongensis sp. nov. is similar to B. polyspora but differs in having a UV + orange thallus and cryptolecanorine apothecia. Sculptolumina coreana sp. nov., resembles S. japonica, but differs in having a smooth entire continuous thallus, which reacts K-, a narrower excipulum, thicker epihymenium, narrower subhymenium, and in containing secondary metabolites other than flavo-obscurin and myeloconone. A key to the buellioid lichens reported from Korea is also presented.

Scutellaria krasevii Kom. & I. Schischk. ex Juz. (Lamiaceae): a new record species from Mongolia

  • We report Scutellaria krasevii Kom. & I. Schischk. ex Juz. (subfamily Scutellarioideae, family Lamiaceae) as a new recorded species of Mongolia. This species is morphologically similar to S. galericulata but can be differentiated by the presence of comparatively thick and triangular-cordate leaves having a heteromerously deep-crenate margin, a densely reclinate pubescent stem, and a densely pubescent corolla. A taxonomic description, a key to the genus in Mongolia, habit photographs, and scanning electron photomicrographs of nutlets are provided for species identification. We also present a table for a comparison of the diagnostic characteristics with those of related species. This species grows along the banks of the Unit river, Khutag-Undur soum, Bulgan province, Mongolia, approximately 2,300 km far away from the type locality in Russia.

  • The subfamily Acrocercopinae, is a relatively large group with over 500 described species under 28 genera. In this study, five species of the subfamily Acrocercopinae, Acrocercops distylii Kumata and Kuroko, 1988, Borboryctis euryae Kumata and Kuroko, 1988, Deoptilia heptadeta (Meyrick, 1936), Gibbovalva magnoliae Kumata and Kuroko, 1988, and Psydrocercops wisteriae (Kuroko, 1982), are reported for the first time from Korea. Moreover, four genera, Borboryctis Kumata and Kuroko, Deoptilia Kumata and Kuroko, Gibbovalva Kumata and Kuroko, and Psydrocercops Kumata are reported as new to Korea. Adults and genitalia of all species are described and illustrated.

  • The Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names (hereafter abbreviated as CNMMN) of the International Mineralogical Association was established in 1959 for the purpose of controlling mineral nomenclature, All proposals for introducing new minerals, changing mineralogical nomenclature, and discrediting or redefining existing minerals and mineral names should be submitted to the CNMMN for approval before publication. If approval is withheld, the proposal should not be published. This report incorporates material from previous reports on mineral nomenclature and procedures of the CNMMN (Fleischer, 1970; Donnay and Fleischer, 1970; Embrey and Hey, 1970; Hey and Gottardi, 1980; and Mandarino et al., 1984), and represents an attempt to consolidate this information and to present a there are differences between this report and the earlier ones, this versionis to be regarded as the correct one.

  • The subfamilies Lithocolletinae and Ornixolinae belong to the family Gracillariidae (Lepidoptera). In this study, one species in the subfamily Lithocolletinae, Neolithocolletis hikomonticola Kumata, 1963 and two species in the subfamily Ornixolinae, Conopomorpha flueggella Li, 2011 and Epicephala nudilingua Kawakita & Kato, 2016 are reported for the first time from Korea. Also, two genera, Neolithocolletis Kumata, 1963 and Conopomorpha Meyrick, 1885 are reported as new to Korea. All available information of these taxa, including details on their host plants and distributional regions are provided with the descriptions and illustrations of the adults, male and female genitalia of these taxa.

Collaboration with Stakeholders for Conservation of Contemporary Art

  • It is difficult to predict the kinds of damage to contemporary art because of the diversity of materials and experimental techniques used. This makes it hard to conserve. Furthermore, the artist's intention in contemporary art is emerging as one of the important issues to be handled in conservation treatment. Thus, collaboration with various stakeholders such as the artists themselves, bereaved family members, and foundations have become more important than ever from the viewpoint of planning conservation treatment. The trustworthiness of conservation treatment would be significantly enhanced if conservation treatment reflected the understanding and respect of not only the appearance of the work, but also the social/cultural context inherent in the work. This should be done, in particular, through collaboration with the artists. In this study, various case studies at home and abroad were analyzed as to explore collaboration methods with various stakeholders for objective and trustworthy conservation treatment. Along the way, the study raised the need to establish new conservation ethics for contemporary art. It is expected that the outcomes of the study could be used as basic material to preserve the originality of contemporary artwork and to set the direction for conservation practice.
