  • Two new species, Pedetontinus aureus and Pedetontinus rhombeus are described. Pedetontinus aureus is characterized by the peculiar scale pattern and long ovipositor, and Pedetontinus rhombeus by the large body size and field of short suberect setae of article III of maxillary palpus. The genus Pedetontinus amounts to four species including two new species of this study in Korea. Descriptions, remarks and biological notes are given.

  • A new species of the genus Smenospongia (Dictyoceratida, Thorectidae), S. coreana n. sp., is described from Gageodo Island, Korea. This new species is readily distinguished from the other species of Smenospongia by the un-lobated growth forms and un-crowded primary fibres. S. aurea and S. lamellata are no distinction between primary and secondary elements, but this species is easily distinguished from them. The matrix easily derived from the fibres. This species has five sesterterpenes, three scalaranetypes and two linear furanosesterterpenes, in chemical compounds.

  • Ten new species of genus Sarcotragus (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Irciniidae) are described from Geomundo Island and Jejudo Island, Korea. All new species of the Sarcotragus are distinguished from the other reported species of Sarcotragus by the skeletal structure, especially fasciculate primary fibres. The characters of genus Sarcotragus have cylindrical primary fascicles filled with wads of filaments or flattened fascicles. All of the primary fibres are not cored with foreign debris. Secondary fibres have slightly fasciculate branch or plastic-like web. They are all not cored with foreign debris. All skeletal fibres are very irregular. The surface is covered with loose or tight filamentous membrane.

  • The red algal genus Amalthea was first described from New Zealand with one species, A. freemaniae. We discovered a new species of Amalthea from Korea, Amalthea rubida sp. nov., and described it based on morphology and rbcL sequences. A. rubida is characterized by a foliose, membranous and soft thallus having loosely arranged anticlinal medullary filaments, much like A. freemaniae, except for a difference of the cortex thickness in the basal part of vegetative structure. In the rbcL phylogenetic analyses, A. rubida formed a clade with A. freemaniae from New Zealand and Halymenia abyssicola from Mexico. A. rubida showed 5.7% interspecific divergence to A. freemaniae and 4.7% to H. abyssicola. Our discovery of A. rubida expands the distribution of Amalthea from the oceanic southwestern Pacific into the continental northwestern. A targeted global study is needed to fully reveal the species diversity and phylogenetic relationships of the genus Amalthea and members of the order Halymeniales.

  • Two species of the genus Burmoniscus Collinge, 1914 (Philosciidae), B. philippinensis and B palawanensis from Palawan Island, the Philippines are described as new. In the family Philosciidae, only a single species, Pseudo-typhloscia alba (Dollfus, 1898), has been recorded from the Philippines. Two species of the genus Burmoniscus Collinge, 1914 (Philosciidae), B. philippinensis and B. palawanensis from Palawan Island, the Philippines are described as new. B. philippinensis is distinguished from its congeners by the shape of telson with straight sides and slightly protruding distal part with acute apex, while B. palawanensis by its peculiar shape of male pleopod 1 endopod.

  • Araneidae Clerck, 1757 is one of the largest families within the order Araneae Clerck, 1757, comprising 3,065 species in 177 genera. To date, two species of the genus Mengora O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1889 and four species of the genus Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 have been recorded in Korea. During a seasonal survey of the spider fauna in mountainous terrain conducted from 2018 to 2019, females of Mangora foliosa Zhu & Yin, 1998 and a male of Araniella robusta sp. nov. were collected with a sweep net between shrubs in mixed forests from Mt. Juwangsan National Park. In this paper, we provide a diagnosis of the new species and descriptions including measurements and morphological illustrations. The new species, Araniella robusta sp. nov., can be easily distinguished from other species in the genus Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 by a branched conductor with two blunt tips and conjugation of the embolus tip and terminal apophysis.

  • The three newly recognized species of the genus Plectiscidea are reported in this: Plectiscidea aquilonia Humala, 2003, Plectiscidea bistriata (Thomson, 1888), and Plectiscidea collaris(Gravenhorst, 1829). Among them, P. bistriata is recorded for the first time in the Eastern Palaearctic region and this genus is reported for the first time from South Korea. A key to species of this genus and and photographs of each species are provided.

  • Two new marine gastrotrichs of the genus Pseudostomella, P. longifurca and P. koreana, are described from the shallow sublittoral sand bottoms of South Korea. Pseudostomella longifurca n. sp. is characterized by the cuticular armature with tetrancres, five dorsal papillae on the prebuccal apparatus, four dorsolateral adhesive tubes, and elongated pedicle. Pseudostomella koreana n. sp. is distinguished from its congeners by the small body, tetrancres, two pairs of dorsolateral adhesive tubes, and tube-shaped copulatory organ. A brief review of the genus is prepared, with the character comparison table for all congeners currently recognized, and a revised key to the species of Pseudostomella. This is the first record of the genus Pseudostomella from East Asia.
