On nonlinear adaptive control systems independent of the degree of the process

  • New design methods for constructing nonlinear adaptive control system are considered. The proposed adaptive controllers are applicable to the case where the degree of the controlled process is unknown. It is shown that the degree of the controller is determined independently of the degree of the process. Several types of nonlinear functions are introduced to deal with uncertainties of the degree of the process. Finally, some simulation results show the effectiveness and simplicity of the proposed methods.

  • A new type of collinear antenna called short-ended coaxial slot-coupled strip array antenna is investigated theoretically. The antenna has an advantage of structural simplicity. The integral equations are derived for the proposed structure by use of the Fourier transform and mode expansion, and the simultaneous linear equations are obtained. The slot electric field and strip current are then obtained by solving the simultaneous linear equation. The effects of slot and strip number on the radiation efficienty, beamwidth and directivity gain are also presented.

  • New package process for PDP was proposed based on the glass-to-glass vacuum-electrostatic bonding process and tubeless packaging concept derived from the previous study. Hermeticity and operating performance of PDP test panel through the seal-off process application and the possibility for practical use might be high if the process simplicity and productivity-related effort was sequentially carried out.

  • Inspired by using a robust loss function in the support vector machine regression to control training error and the idea of robust template matching with M-estimator, Chen (2004) applies M-estimator techniques to gaussian radial basis functions and form a new class of robust kernels for the support vector machines. We are specially interested in the shape of the Huber's M-estimator in this context and propose a way to find the shape parameter of the Huber's M-estimating function. For simplicity, only the two-class classification problem is considered.

  • In this work, we will present an iris pattern recognition method as a biometrically based technology for personal identification and authentication. For this, we propose a new algorithm for extraction unique feature from images of the iris of the human eye and representing these feature using the discrete fourier transform. From the computational simplicity of the adopted transform, we can obtain more fast and efficient results than previous ones.

  • An integral equation representation of cracks was presented, which differs from well-known "dislocation layer" representation. In this new representation, the integral equation representation of cracks was developed and coupled to the direct boundary-element method for treatment of cracks in finite plane bodies. The method was developed for in-plane(mode I and II) loadings only. In this paper, the method is formulated and applied to various crack problems involving multiple and branch cracks in finite region. The results are compared to exact solutions where available and the method is shown to be very accurate despite of its simplicity.implicity.

  • This paper presents the analytical solution of the fractional Fokker-Planck equation by Adomian decomposition method. By using initial conditions, the explicit solution of the equation has been presented in the closed form and then the numerical solution has been represented graphically. Two different approaches have been presented in order to show the application of the present technique. The present method performs extremely well in terms of efficiency and simplicity.

  • This study is to present the design methods in the Schrider House executed by the Dutch architect G. Th, Rieveld. The plastic principles which underlies the architecture design are examined through the analysis of the 'new structural joint system (Cartesian Coordinate System) ' and ' Color-Plasticity ' which characterized a series of his furniture design from 1918 to 1924. It indicates that Reitveld attempted to realize the simplicity, clarity and flexibility of spatial expression in his first independent architecture by the application of technical skills which have been developed in his early days.

  • 본 논문은 현대장신구속에 나타난 미니멀리즘의 성향을 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 장신구의 특성을 파악하고, 이들 장신구속에 나타난 미니멀리즘의 개념적, 형태적 그리고 조형적 성향을 연구하였다. 미니멀 아트는 시각적 단순함을 선호하는 사람들에게 새로운 감흥을 주었고, 이는 '장식'에 치중해 왔던 기존의 디자인의 개념을 변화시키는 데에 많은 영향을 주었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 미니멀리즘의 특성과 장신구에서 나타나는 미니멀리즘의 성향을 파악하고, 이를 활용한 다양한 디자인의 개발에 도움이 되고자 한다.

2D Image Construction from Low Resolution Response of a New Non-invasive Measurement for Medical Application

  • This paper presents an application of digital signal processing to data acquired by the radio imaging method (RIM) that was adopted to measure moisture distribution inside the human body. RIM was originally developed for the mining industry; we are applying the method to a biomedical measurement because of its simplicity, economy, and safety. When a two-dimensional image was constructed from the measured data, the method provided insufficient resolution because the wavelength of the measurement medium, a weak electromagnetic wave in a VHF band, was longer than human tissues. We built and measured a phantom, a model simulating the human body, consisting of two water tanks representing large internal organs. A digital equalizer was applied to the measured values as a weight function, and images were reconstructed that corresponded to the original shape of the two water tanks. As a result, a two-dimensional image containing two individual peaks corresponding to the original two small water tanks was constructed. The result suggests the method was applicable to biomedical measurement by the assistance of digital signal processing. This technique may be applicable to home-based medical care and other situations in which safety, simplicity, and economy are important.
