A Clinical Study on 4 Cases of Tremor Patients with Acupuncture Treatment (침(針)과 한약(韓藥) 치료(治療)를 통한 진전 환자 4례(例)에 대한 증례보고)

  • Tremor is a rhythmic, involuntary muscular contraction characterized by oscillations(to-and-fro movements) of a part of the body. The most common of all involuntary movements, tremor can affect various body parts such as the hands, head, facial structures, vocal cords, trunk, and legs; most tremors, however, occur in the hands. Tremor often accompanies neurological disorders associated with aging. Although the disorder is not life-threatening, it can be responsible for functional disability and social embarrassment. The clinical study was carried out the 4 patients with tremor who were treated in Dong Seo Medical Center from 1 January 2005 to 31 August. The results were summarized as follows. Tremor has relation to liver according to Jangbu theory. So we performed acupuncture treatment(Ganseonggyeok) and Herbal medication on tremor. After our treatments, tremor and some other symptoms were improved.

  • Hwabyung is an culture-bound anger syndrome in Korea. It consists of as one or more of a wide range of physical symptoms, in response to emotional stress. In this case, a 51-years woman complained neck pain and foreign body sensation in throat. We diagnosed her Hwabyung because her chief complaint occurred from stress in process of traffic accident. We classified her Soeumin in Sasang Constitutional Medicine, and used Hwanggigyeji-tang. And we encouraged her think positive and don't worry about little matters because Soeumin tend to think negative and wony about little matters. After treatment, her condition got improved. This report suggest that treatment method of Sasang Constitutional Medicine such as herb medicine and way of thinking is effective in treatment of Hwabyung patient.

  • Recently, usual minor stress is getting more important in somatization disorder. This study is a clinical report of a patient with somatization disorder induced by stress treated with typical orintal medical therapy reinforcing the weakness of heart and gall blaader(Herb-med, acupunture, etc.) in combination with EFT. STAI, BDI were compared between before and after treatment. The results show the typical onntal medical therapy reinforcing the weakness of heart and gall blaader in combination with EFT is efficient in the treatment of Somatization disorder.

  • Delirium is a acute syndrome of disorientation caused by disfunction of brain tissue and has a variety of symptomes. It is characterized by disturbance of consciousness and attention, cognition, and perception for a brief period of time and tends to fluctuate during the course of the day. We experienced a 56 year-old woman who had a hypertension as well as Delirium caused by cranial contusion and whose condition was improved by Oriental medical treatment. this case study illustrates what the manifestation of Delirium caused by cranial contusion. This study shows more objective mecical pregress by grading Korean version of Delirium Rating Scale(K-DRS) and Korean version of Mini-Mental State Examination(K-MMSE). After our treatments, Delirium and some other symptoms were improved.

  • Conversion disorder is a diagnosis based on a psychological construct that currently has no known neurobiologic substrate. But It is not easy to differentiate a real conversion disorder from a neurological disease or other medical disease. A patient in this case report had been diagnosed as conversion disorder but later it was found that the conversion disorder was misdiagnosis. During the 7 days of treatment, this patient was treated by herb medication, acupuncture and TENS and bad a little improvement. Both way, this patient was evaluated and evantually was diagnosed as Guillain-Barre Syndrome Miller-Fisber Variant, suggesting that the former diagnosis bad been a mistake. In this case report, we will present this patient's case and review the misdiagnosis of conversion disorder.

  • Delirium is an acute syndrome of disorientaion caused by dysfunction of brain and has many various symptoms. The characteristic symptoms of delirium are conscious disturbance with disorientation, dysarthria and emotional disturbance. We experienced 84-year-old man who had Wi syndrome(痿證) as well as delirium during the treatment of pneumonia, and whose condition was improved through Oriental medical treatment. The patient was diagnosed as Yangmyeong Disease(陽明病) that was caused by heat in the stomach and stool in the colon, and was treated with Daeseungki-tang (Dachengqi-tang, 大承氣湯). We were able to improve the delirium caused by high fever infection through Oriental medical treatment.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effects of multidimensional five senses treatment on patients with depression or anxiety. Methods: This study examined the effects of multidimensional five senses treatment for patients with depression or anxiety who visited the neuropsychiatric clinic of Korean medicine. STAI-X1,X2, BDI, BAI, PAS were used to determine whether the mood (depression or anxiety) of patients was improved. Results: Our results showed that multidimensional five senses treatment improved the depressive symptoms or anxiety symptoms. In addition, after the multidimensional five senses treatment, PAS score in patients with panic disorder was improved. Conclusions: The multidimensional five senses treatment was effective for the improvement of patients with depression or anxiety.

  • Objectives: Schizophrenia is a serious disease that influences not only the patients themselves but also their family and the society. In this case, we employed art therapy and Korean traditional medicine for treating a schizophrenia patient.Methods: The patient was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the main complaints were hallucination, visual hallucination and catatonic behavior. We treated the patient with art therapy and Korean traditional medicine including acupuncture, moxa and herbal medicine. We used the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) for assessment.Results: After treatment, clinical symptoms were improved and the BPRS and PANSS scores were decreased, especially the scores for anxiety, depression and poor rapport.Conclusions: Combined treatment with art therapy and Korean traditional medicine can be effective for treating chronic schizophrenia.

  • Objective : We aimed to study the relationship between the post-stroke depression and acceptance of the stroke. Method : For this study, 80 stroke patients were surveyed by using questionnaires for CES-D, acceptance for stroke, and social support. Result & Conclusion : 1. Acceptance for stroke varied inversely as the post-stroke depression. 2. The acceptance for the stroke appeased the negative influence caused by the stress of the stroke, and the post-stroke depression was biggest predictable variant. And location of the stroke were the predictable variants of the post-stroke depression. 3. When the gender, location of the stroke, motor power, age, period of stroke, and social support were controlled, the group with depression and the one without depression had a significant difference in the acceptance of the stroke.

  • Pain disorder is a category of somatoform disorder that be diagnosed when the pain is starting and getting worse associated with psychological factors. At the recent study, it revealed that stress might be more strong factor in occurring and sustaining the somatoform disorder. In this case, a 42 years old female patient had a chronic pain disorder 3 years ago, suddenly complained of an eyeball pain due to retina rupture induced by severe stress. In the view of oriental medicine, pain disorder belongs to GuQiJakTongJung. So, we diagnosed her state as GuQiJakTongJung and treated her such as herbal medicine, acupuncture and phlebotomy therapy. In result, the chronic pain of the patient was improved, and also general condition was getting better.
