Reactive oxygen species(ROS) are produced at a high rate continuously as a by-product of aerobic metabolism. Several lines of evidence provided that ROS appears to cause to develop aging and various diseases. High level of hyaluronic acid with decreased molecular weight has been detected in patients with inflammatory diseases including rheumatoid arthritis. Hyaluronidase is an endohexosaminidase that initiates the degradation of hyaluronic acid with high molecular weight. Prunus persica Batsch var. davidiana Maximowicz has been known as a korean folk medicine for treatment of neuritis and rheumatism. (omitted)

Lateral antabrachial cutaneous neuropathy(LACN) was diagnosed in a 42-year-old woman who developed pain and paresthesia in the left forearm after several days of heavy labor. The symptoms were resolved with conservative treatment, including cessation of heavy labor and a brief course of oral corticosteroids. But the symptoms recurred after 9 months. Those were also resolved with same treatment as the first attack. LACN is important to recognize because the symptoms may mimic the pathology of a cervical root, the brachial plexus, the radial and median nerves at the level of the elbow, and a focal idiopathic inflammatory neuritis.

The upper trunk of the brachial plexus is the most common area affected by neuralgic amyotrophy (NA), and paresis of the shoulder girdle muscle is the most prevalent manifestation. Posterior interosseous nerve palsy is a rare presentation in patients with NA. It results in dropped finger on the affected side and may be misdiagnosed as entrapment syndrome or compressive neuropathy. We report an unusual case of NA manifested as PIN palsy and suggest that knowledge of clinical NA phenotypes is crucial for early diagnosis of peripheral nerve palsies.

We present a case of hydrocephalus as the primary manifestation of neurosarcoidosis. Sarcoidosis is a rare disease in Korea and its incidence is much lower than that of tuberculosis. Diagnosis is made by pathologic findings and by exclusion of other granulomatous disorders. Neurosarcoidosis is observed in approximately 5% of sarcoidosis. Its common manifestations are facial palsy (50% of patients with neurosarcoidosis) and optic neuritis. Hydrocephalus is a very uncommon reported finding. Although the typical presentation of sarcoidosis such as facial palsy is not a diagnostic dilemma, more atypical presentations such as hydrocephalus with altered mentality in a tuberculosis patient can lead to a misdiagnosis.

Loud click or tone burst sound can activate vestibular receptor and evoke reflex changes in tonic electromyographic activity within the stenocleidomastoid muscles. This reflex is assumed to originate in the saccule, the afferent pathways being the inferior vestibular nerve, and the efferent pathways the vestibulospinal tract. Averaging these muscular responses allows vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) to be obtained. The earliest response ipsilateral to a loud click, p13n23, is dependent upon vestibular activation, specifically saccular afferents. These new techniques are beginning to be applied clinically in the patient of vestibular neuritis, Meniere's disease, acoustic neuromas, Tullio phenomenon, etc. VEMP recording will provide both a straightforward non-invasive exploration of each vestibule independently and an attractive method by which to explore otolithic receptors and vestibulospinal pathways.

A 9-year-old boy who was confirmed measles by clinical manifestations and serum measles IgM antibody presented with bilateral visual loss 12 days after the onset of maculopapular rash. Complete ophthalmic and neurologic examinations, radiologic studies, and lumbar puncture were performed. Visual acuities were counting fingers in both eyes, with mild bilateral optic disk hyperemia and swelling noted. Neurologic examination was unremarkable, however, a magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed high signals on basal ganglia, and periventricular white matter. The cerebrospinal fluid was devoid of white cells. Intravenous methylprednisolone and high dose immunoglobulins were administered, and clinical findings resolved completely within 6 months.

Sciatic nerve block is frequently used for anesthesia or analgesia during lower leg surgery or chronic lower leg pain syndrome. Recently, a lot of ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve block has been reported because there are several benefits compared to blind technique. We performed ultrasound-guided right sciatic nerve block successfully to the patient who has been suffering from right buttock pain after previous radiation therapy.

Herpes Zoster Oticus is a reactivation of latent varicella-zoster infection associated otalgia, facial nerve palsy, sensorineural hearing loss and vertigo. Facial nerve palsy is rapid in onset, usually severe degree, and poor is prognosis. And pain in the form of acute neuritis and postherpetic neuralgia is by far the most frequent and most debilitating complication of Herpes Zoster. The pain of Herpes Zoster may severe, but it is usually transitory. Some patients, with the elderly at particular risk, go on to develop postherpetic neuralgia. In the two cases, pain (especially postherpetic neuralgia) which is often severe and, unfortunately, refractory to most forms of treatment was reduced using herbal medicine and acupuncture but facial nerve palsy was not improved.
