  • Condition monitoring is desirable for increasing machinery availability, reducing consequential damage, and improving operational efficiency. In this paper, a model-based method using neural network modeling of induction noter in vibration spectra is proposed for machine fault detection and diagnosis. The short-time Fourier transform (STFT) is used to process the quasi-steady vibration signals to continuous spectra so that the neural network model can be trained with vibration spectra. And the faults are detected from changes in the expectation of vibration spectra modeling error. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through experimental results.

  • The Air Quality Sensor(AQS), located near the fresh air inlet, serves to reduce the amount of pollution entering the vehicle cabin through the HVAC(heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) system by sending a signal to close the fresh air inlet door/ventilation flap when the vehicle enters a high pollution area. One chip sensor module which include above two sensing elements, humidity sensor and bad odor sensor was developed for AQS (air quality sensor) in automobile. With this sensor module, PIC microcontroller was designed with back propagation neural network to reduce detecting error when the motor vehicles pass through the dense fog area. The signal from neural network was modified to control the inlet of automobile and display the result or alarm the situation. One chip microcontroller, Atmega128L (ATmega Ltd., USA) was used. For the control and display. And our developed system can intelligently detect the bad odor when the motor vehicles pass through the polluted air zone such as cattle farm.

  • In the semiconductor manufacturing industry, the heterodyne laser interferometer plays as an ultra-precise measurement system. However, the heterodyne laser interferometer has some unwanted nonlinearity error which is caused from frequency-mixing. This is an obstacle to improve the measurement accuracy in nanometer scale. In this paper we propose a compensation algorithm based on RLS(recursive least square) method and artificial intelligence method, which reduce the nonlinearity error in the heterodyne laser interferometer. With the capacitance displacement sensor we get a reference signal which can be transformed into the intensity domain. Using the back-propagation Neural Network method, we train the network to track the reference signal. Through some experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in measurement accuracy.

  • This paper shows that a system with two-link arm can obtain hand reaching movement to a target object projected on a visual sensor by reinforcement learning using a layered neural network. The reinforcement signal, which is an only signal from the environment, is given to the system only when the hand reaches the target object. The neural network computes two joint torques from visual sensory signals, joint angles, and joint angular velocities considering the urn dynamics. It is known that the trajectory of the voluntary movement o( human hand reaching is almost straight, and the hand velocity changes like bell-shape. Although there are some exceptions, the properties of the trajectories obtained by the reinforcement learning are somewhat similar to the experimental result of the human hand reaching movement.

  • This paper proposes a new construction method of neural networks. The construction method consists of two fundmental ideas, which are a parallel selection-style evaluation and rules evolution. A new collision avoidance algorithm using genetic and neural network is proposed to avoid moving obstacles such as mobile robots. The input parameters of this algorithm is position of moving obstacles and target. Output is a regenerated direction of mobile robot. This algorithm is very simple and so, it is available to application of real time process. The pattern of collision avoidance is learned through test execution.

  • Adaptive correlator receiver with neural network based on complex multilayer perceptron is persented for suppressing interference of narrow-band of direct spread spectrum communication systems. Recursive least square algorithm with backpropagation error is used for fast convergence and better performance in adaptive correlator scheme. According to signal noise and transmission power, computer simulation results show that bit error ratio of adaptive correlator using neural network improved that of adative transversal filter of direct sequence spread spectrum considering of jamming and narrow-band interference. Bit error ratio of adaptive correlator with neural network is reduced about 10-1 than that of adaptive transversal filter where interference versus signal ratio is 5dB.

  • ECG pattern was classified using a back-propagation neural network. An improved feature extractor of ECG is proposed for better classification capability. It is consisted of preprocessing ECG signal by an FIR filter faster than conventional one by a factor of 5. QRS complex recognition by moving-window integration, and peak extraction by quadratic approximation. Since the FIR filter had a periodic frequency spectrum, only one-fifth of usual processing time was required. Also, segmentation of ECG signal followed by quadratic approximation of each segment enabled accurate detection of both P and T waves. When improtant features were extracted and fed into back-propagation neural network for pattern classification, the required number of nodes in hidden and input layers was reduced compared to using raw data as an input, also reducing the necessary time for study. Accurate pattern classification was possible by an appropriate feature selection.

  • Two decision feedback equalizer structures employing recurrent neural network (RNN) used for non-linear channels with severe intersymbol interference (ISI) and non-linear distortion are proposed in this paper, which skillfully put the traditional decision feedback structure for linear channels equalization into RNN, replace decision feedback signal with training signal in the learning process and adaptively adjust the learning step. Simulative results of the first type of two new equalizer structures have shown that it has better equalization performances than traditional recurrent neural network equalizer (RNNE) under the same condition.

  • For the exact classification of the arm motion this paper proposes EMG pattern recognition method with neural network. For this autoregressive coefficient, linear cepstrum coefficient, and adaptive cepstrum coefficient are selected for the feature parameter of EMG signal, and they are extracted from time series EMG signal. For the function recognition of the feature parameter a radial basis function network, a field of neural network is designed. For the improvement of recognition rate, a number of radial basis function network are combined in parallel, comparing with a backpropagation neural network an existing method.

  • Phase-locked loops (PLLs) are among the most important mixed-signal building blocks of modern communication and control circuits, where they are used for frequency and phase synchronization, modulation, and demodulation as well as frequency synthesis. The growing popularity of PLLs has increased the need to test these devices during prototyping and production. The problem of distinguishing and classifying the responses of analog integrated circuits containing catastrophic faults has aroused recent interest. This is because most analog and mixed signal circuits are tested by their functionality, which is both time consuming and expensive. The problem is made more difficult when parametric variations are taken into account. Hence, statistical methods and techniques can be employed to automate fault classification. As a possible solution, we use the back propagation neural network (BPNN) to classify the faults in the designed charge-pump PLL. In order to classify the faults, the BPNN was trained with various training algorithms and their performance for the test structure was analyzed. The proposed method of fault classification gave fault coverage of 99.58%.
