The paper describes SR3 (Synchronous Round Robin with Reservations), a collision-free medium access control protocol for all-optical slotted packet networks based on WDM multi-channel ring topologies where nodes are equipped with one fixed-wavelength receiver and one wavelength-tunable transmitter SR3 is derived from the SRR and MMR protocols previously proposed by the same authors for the same class of all-optical networks. SRR and MMR already achieve an efficient exploitation of the available bandwidth, while guaranteeing a throughput-fair access to each node. SR3, In addition, allows nodes to reserve slots. thereby achieving a stronger control on access delays; it is thus well suited to meet tight delay requirements, as it is the case for multimedia applications. Simulation results show that SR3 provides very good performance to guaranteed qualify traffic, but also brings signigicant performance improvements for best-effort traffic. Energy effciency is an important issue for optical network since they must rely on their batteries. We present a novel MAC protocol that achieves a good energy efficiency of optical interface of the network and provides support for diverse traffic types and QoS. The scheduler of the base station is responsible to provide the required QoS to connections on the optical link and to minimise the amount of energy spend by the High speed Network. The main principles of the MaC protocol are to avoid unsuccessful actions, minimise the number of transitions , and synchronise the mobile and the base-station. We will show that considerable amounts of energy can be saved using these principles.
In this paper, we present the Q-learning method for adaptive traffic signal control on the basis of multi-agent technology. The structure is composed of sixphase agents and one intersection agent. Wireless communication network provides the possibility of the cooperation of agents. As one kind of reinforcement learning, Q-learning is adopted as the algorithm of the control mechanism, which can acquire optical control strategies from delayed reward; furthermore, we adopt dynamic learning method instead of static method, which is more practical. Simulation result indicates that it is more effective than traditional signal system.

SDN is one of the most actively researched topics to solve traffic problems in communication. SDN implements multiple networks in a single physical network by virtualizing network resources through an advanced API. Network Function Virtualized (NFV) distributes network functions from hardware using software instant, virtualization technology to VNF. These features make network management easier and improve performance by virtualizing IP, routers, and so on. In this paper, we propose a method to control the traffic and provide the distributed controller effect of SDN through SDN distribution in the virtualized industrial network. It is expected that SDN distribution will be able to manage traffic more efficiently when using the proposed scheme.
It is very important to correlate flight plan for safe and prompt ATC(air traffic control) operation. In this paper, we design CWP(controller working position) MRT(multi radar tracking) processing module to achieve improvement of overall ATC automation system's performance by minimizing network traffic overload when correlating MRT with flight plan. This implemented module can guarantee efficiency and safety of ATC automation system by applying distributed correlated manner, and reduce network usage by using encoded flight plan correlated MRT data format. We found that this module has 8.54~12.11% lower network usage and 8.37~11.27% higher network traffic fairness than the module using standalone manner.
In this paper, we proposed TASL-MAC, a medium-access control (MAC) protocol for wireless sensor networks. In wireless sensor networks, sensor nodes are usually deployed in a special environment, are assigned with long-term work, and are supported by a limited battery. As such, reducing the energy consumption becomes the primary concern with regard to wireless sensor networks. At the same time, reducing the latency in multi-hop data transmission is also very important. In the existing research, sensor nodes are expected to be switched to the sleep mode in order to reduce energy consumption. However, the existing proposals tended to assign the sensors with a fixed Sleep/Listening schedule, which causes unnecessary idle listening problems and conspicuous transmission latency due to the diversity of the traffic-load in the network. TASL-MAC is designed to dynamically adjust the duty listening time based on traffic load. This protocol enables the node with a proper data transfer rate to satisfy the application's requirements. Meanwhile, it can lead to much greater power efficiency by prolonging the nodes' sleeping time when the traffic. We evaluate our implementation of TASL-MAC in NS-2. The evaluation result indicates that our proposal could explicitly reduce packet delivery latency, and that it could also significantly prolong the lifetime of the entire network when traffic is low.

Frame relay needs UPC function for the multiplexed logical connections to prevent malicious user traffic from incoming to network, to guarantee the QoS of conformed user traffic, and to protect the normal operation of network system. On the FR/ATM interworking in ATM networks, the UPC may be conducted either by cell-based ATM UPC or frame-based FR UPC. Frames come into and traverse ATm networks by segmentation to ATM cells. Of course, FR QoS should be guaranteed in spite of segmentation and reassembly in ATM networks. In this paper, we compared the QoS of cell-based ATM UPC and frame-based FR UPC in terms of analysis and simulation in case of ingress of excess traffic over negotiated traffic parameters at user-to-network interface. Also we studied frame-based UPC schemes including window-based FR UPC and frame-based VSA which is an ATM UPC algorithm recommended by ITU-T. We described introductions to frame relay including frame structure and FR/ATM interworking, FR traffic parameters and their relationship, comparison of FR QoS between frame-based FR UPC and cell-based ATM UPC, comparison of FR UPC schemes, necessities of egress traffic control, and conclusions.

This paper presents an intelligent PID control for stochastic systems with nonstationary nature. We optimally determine parameters of a PID controller through learning algorithm and propose an online PID control to compensate system errors possibly occurred in realtime implementations. A dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) model for system errors is additionally explored for making decision about whether an online control is carried out or not in practice. We apply our control approach to traffic control of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) networks and demonstrate its superior performance comparing to a fixed PID from computer simulations.

In this paper, we study reactive congestion control with priority in ATM network. The priority schemes for buffer access, partial buffer sharing have been investigated in order to improve the utilization of ATM network resources the network and to satisfy the most demanding traffic class. We consider in this paper a discrete-time queueing model for partial buffer sharing with two Markov modulated Poisson inputs. This model can be used to analyze the the effects of the partial buffer sharing priority scheme on system performance for realistic cases of bursty services. Explicit formulae are derived for the number of cells in the system and the loss probabilities for the traffic. Congestion may still occur because of unpredictable statistical fluctuation of traffic sources even when preventive control is performed in the network. In this Paper, we study reactive congestion control, in which each source changes its cell emitting rate a daptively to the traffic load at the switching node. Our intention is that,by incorporating such a congcstion control method in ATM network, more efficient congsestion control is established. We develope an analytical model, and carry out an approximateanalysis of reactive congestion con-trol with priority.Numerical results show that several orders of magnitude improvement in the loss probability can be achieved for the high priority class with little impact on the low priority class performance. And the results show that the reactive congestion control with priority are very effective in avoiding congestion and in achieving the statistical gain.
Current state-of-the-art of VMS control is based upon simple knowledge-based inference engine with message set and each message's priority. And R&Ds of the VMS control are focused on the accurate detection and estimation of traffic condition of the subject roadways. However VMS display itself cannot achieve a desirable traffic allocation among alternative routes in the network In this context, VMS display strategy is the most crucial part in the VMS control. VMS itself has several limitations in its nature. It is generally known that VMS causes overreaction and concentration problems, which may be more serious in urban network than highway network because diversion should be more easily made in urban network. A feedback control algorithm is proposed in this paper to address the above-mentioned issues. It is generally true that feedback control approach requires low computational effort and is less sensitive to models inaccuracy and disturbance uncertainties. Major features of the proposed algorithm are as follows: Firstly, a regulator is designed to attain system optimal traffic allocation among alternative routes for each VMS in the network. Secondly, strategic messages should be prepared to realize the desirable traffic allocation, that is, output of the above regulator. VMS display strategy module is designed in this context. To evaluate Probable control benefit and to detect logical errors of the Proposed feedback algorithm, a offline simulation test is performed using real network in Daejon, Korea.

Global data center IP traffic is expected to reach 20.6 zettabytes (ZB) by the end of 2021. Intra-data center networks (Intra-DCN) will account for 71.5% of the data center traffic flow and will be the largest portion of the traffic. The understanding of traffic distribution in IntraDCN is still sketchy. It causes significant amount of bandwidth to go unutilized, and creates avoidable choke points. Conventional transport protocols such as Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and Optical Burst Switching (OBS) allow a one-sided view of the traffic flow in the network. This therefore causes disjointed and uncoordinated decision-making at each node. For effective resource planning, there is the need to consider joining the distributed with centralized management which anticipates the system's needs and regulates the entire network. Methods derived from Kalman filters have proved effective in planning road networks. Considering the network available bandwidth as data transport highways, we propose an intelligent enhanced SDN concept applied to OBS architecture. A management plane (MP) is added to conventional control (CP) and data planes (DP). The MP assembles the traffic spatio-temporal parameters from ingress nodes, uses Kalman filtering prediction-based algorithm to estimate traffic demand. Prior to packets arrival at edges nodes, it regularly forwards updates of resources allocation to CPs. Simulations were done on a hybrid scheme (1+1) and on the centralized OBS. The results demonstrated that the proposition decreases the packet loss ratio. It also improves network latency and throughput-up to 84 and 51%, respectively, versus the traditional scheme.
