Market Efficiency Analysis of MVNO (MVNO 도입에 따른 시장효율성 분석)

  • There are lots of controversies over the introduction of MVNO(Mobile Virtual Network Operator) policy to Korean mobile telecommunications market. MVNO is a kind of service-based competition in mobile market. This paper attempts to analyze the ripple effect of MVNO regulation and also desirable ways of implementing the policy. Based on Laffont, Rey and Tirole(1998), Armstrong (1998) model, theoretical MVNO model is defined and derived implications of price, quantity in the market. According to the model, the fact that MNOs have one-way access profit leads the static efficiency by lowering its market price. In regarding the most desirable way to enhance social welfare is revealed as 'two MNOs conduct MVNO' other than 'One MNO does' or 'Structurally divided network'.

Intelligent System for the Prediction of Heart Diseases Using Machine Learning Algorithms with Anew Mixed Feature Creation (MFC) technique

  • Classification systems can significantly assist the medical sector by allowing for the precise and quick diagnosis of diseases. As a result, both doctors and patients will save time. A possible way for identifying risk variables is to use machine learning algorithms. Non-surgical technologies, such as machine learning, are trustworthy and effective in categorizing healthy and heart-disease patients, and they save time and effort. The goal of this study is to create a medical intelligent decision support system based on machine learning for the diagnosis of heart disease. We have used a mixed feature creation (MFC) technique to generate new features from the UCI Cleveland Cardiology dataset. We select the most suitable features by using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO), Recursive Feature Elimination with Random Forest feature selection (RFE-RF) and the best features of both LASSO RFE-RF (BLR) techniques. Cross-validated and grid-search methods are used to optimize the parameters of the estimator used in applying these algorithms. and classifier performance assessment metrics including classification accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, precision, and F1-Score, of each classification model, along with execution time and RMSE the results are presented independently for comparison. Our proposed work finds the best potential outcome across all available prediction models and improves the system's performance, allowing physicians to diagnose heart patients more accurately.

A Study on the i-YOLOX Architecture for Multiple Object Detection and Classification of Household Waste (생활 폐기물 다중 객체 검출과 분류를 위한 i-YOLOX 구조에 관한 연구)

  • In addressing the prominent issues of climate change, resource scarcity, and environmental pollution associated with household waste, extensive research has been conducted on intelligent waste classification methods. These efforts range from traditional classification algorithms to machine learning and neural networks. However, challenges persist in effectively classifying waste in diverse environments and conditions due to insufficient datasets, increased complexity in neural network architectures, and performance limitations for real-world applications. Therefore, this paper proposes i-YOLOX as a solution for rapid classification and improved accuracy. The proposed model is evaluated based on network parameters, detection speed, and accuracy. To achieve this, a dataset comprising 10,000 samples of household waste, spanning 17 waste categories, is created. The i-YOLOX architecture is constructed by introducing the Involution channel convolution operator and the Convolution Branch Attention Module (CBAM) into the YOLOX structure. A comparative analysis is conducted with the performance of the existing YOLO architecture. Experimental results demonstrate that i-YOLOX enhances the detection speed and accuracy of waste objects in complex scenes compared to conventional neural networks. This confirms the effectiveness of the proposed i-YOLOX architecture in the detection and classification of multiple household waste objects.

Construction of a Novel Mitochondria-Associated Gene Model for Assessing ESCC Immune Microenvironment and Predicting Survival

  • Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is among the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract, with the sixth highest fatality rate worldwide. The ESCC-related dataset, GSE20347, was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, and weighted gene co-expression network analysis was performed to identify genes that are highly correlated with ESCC. A total of 91 transcriptome expression profiles and their corresponding clinical information were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. A mitochondria-associated risk (MAR) model was constructed using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox regression analysis and validated using GSE161533. The tumor microenvironment and drug sensitivity were explored using the MAR model. Finally, in vitro experiments were performed to analyze the effects of hub genes on the proliferation and invasion abilities of ESCC cells. To confirm the predictive ability of the MAR model, we constructed a prognostic model and assessed its predictive accuracy. The MAR model revealed substantial differences in immune infiltration and tumor microenvironment characteristics between high- and low-risk populations and a substantial correlation between the risk scores and some common immunological checkpoints. AZD1332 and AZD7762 were more effective for patients in the low-risk group, whereas Entinostat, Nilotinib, Ruxolutinib, and Wnt.c59 were more effective for patients in the high-risk group. Knockdown of TYMS significantly inhibited the proliferation and invasive ability of ESCC cells in vitro. Overall, our MAR model provides stable and reliable results and may be used as a prognostic biomarker for personalized treatment of patients with ESCC.

Dynamic Spectrum Allocation Algorithm for Maritime Communications using Spectrum Sharing and Priority (해상무선통신환경에서 스펙트럼 공유와 우선순위를 적용한 동적스펙트럼할당 알고리즘 기술연구)

  • In this paper, we propose the dynamic spectrum allocation (DSA) algorithm using spectrum sharing method considering the long-term priority between NOs and service classes for the maritime communication system environment where a ship locates at either near shore (or land) or off-shore. It was shown that the proposed algorithm using spectrum sharing with priorities could deliver better satisfaction ratio (SR) than the fixed allocation schemes, in the context of provision of required bandwidth (or spectrum) for each users. Therefore, we conclude that the proposed DSA with priorities could apply to the maritime communication environment and exploit the under-used (or unused, idle) spectrum of terrestrial communication networks.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and implement a courseware that makes possible interaction between man and computer in the internet. For this, We select the contents of learning and designe a courseware with text, graphic data. HTML, Java script and Java applet. Some advantages of the courseware are as follows. Interactions between man and computer are possible by giving diverse feedback to input-response in the web. And it is possible to access the courseware regardless of time and space when the network environment of user's computer is suitably equipped. Finally, on operator's part, the revision of the courseware becomes easier and on client's part, the system resources are less required.

  • In the past, companies should make enormous facility investment and acquire a right to do business in order to join communication markets, but now they can do business without important facilities, such as communication networks. Such a movement to ease regulations about companies which want to newly join the communication industry is expected not only to change a competition frame of the mobile communication market but also to greatly affect the entire communication industry. Through this study aiming to look into a way to calculate a reasonable wholesale price related to the government's introduction of the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) system, I came up with a following result. I applied the operating profit percentage and the ratio of operating gain to cost to the cost plus model and retail minus model, respectively, to calculate the wholesale price and found that when I calculated with the cost plus model applying the operating profit percentage, I could get the highest wholesale price. On the other hand, I got the lowest wholesale price with the retail minus model by applying the operating profit percentage. Division of expenses and calculation of profit percentage are important factors in calculating the wholesale price and such results are expected to help accurate calculation of the MVNO wholesale price.

Invader Detection System Using the Morphological Filtering and Difference Images Based on the Max-Valued Edge Detection Algorithm

  • Recently, pirates are infesting on the sea and they have been hijacking the several vessels for example Samho Dream and Samho Jewelry of Korea. One of the items to reduce the risk is to adopt the invader detection system. If the pirates break in to the ship, the detection system can monitor the pirates and then call the security alarm. The crew can gain time to hide to the safe room and the report can be automatically sent to the control room to cope with the situation. For the invader detection, an unmanned observation system was proposed using the image detection algorithm that extracts the invader image from the recording image. To detect the motion area, the difference value was calculated between the current image and the prior image of the invader, and the 'AND' operator was used in calculated image and edge line. The image noise was reduced based on the morphology operation and then the image was transformed into morphological information. Finally, a neural network model was applied to recognize the invader. In the experimental results, it was confirmed that the proposed approach can improve the performance of the recognition in the invader monitoring system.

  • In the previous study, a polishing robot system was developed to automate the polishing process and to cope with the shortage of skilled workers. This polishing robot system has several advantages: reduced time for setting polishing work, decreased labor costs, effective operation, continuous polishing work without an operator, improved machine accuracy, and the ability to polish a free curved surface die. However, still the problem remains that a worker must stay to monitor the polishing process in the poor working conditions for a long time. Nowadays some advanced manufacturing companies need to find a way to check the performance of their production equipments and plants from remote sites. Thus, this study constructed the communication network and developed the monitoring programs (a servo program and a client program) to operate the polishing robot from remote sites. Using these programs, workers are able to monitor and control the polishing robot on the web page, in any place where internet service is possible. To guarantee a stable operation in spite of a variable computer operating environment, the monitoring system is implemented in Java. The experimental results showed that the developed monitoring programs provided a stable communication.

The Virtual Robot Arm Control Method by EMG Pattern Recognition using the Hybrid Neural Network System (혼합형 신경회로망을 이용한 근전도 패턴 분류에 의한 가상 로봇팔 제어 방식)

  • This paper presents a method of virtual robot arm control by EMG pattern recognition using the proposed hybrid system. The proposed hybrid system is composed of the LVQ and the SOFM, and the SOFM is used for the preprocessing of the LVQ. The SOFM converts the high dimensional EMG signals to 2-dimensional data. The EMG measurement system uses three surface electrodes to acquire the EMG signal from operator. Six hand gestures can be classified sufficiently by the proposed hybrid system. Experimental results are presented that show the effectiveness of the virtual robot arm control by the proposed hybrid system based classifier for the recognition of hand gestures from EMG signal patterns.
