  • Parallel computing system components should be harmonized, and this harmonization is kept existent using synchronization time. Synchronization time affects the system in two ways. First, if we have too little synchronization time, some tasks face the problem of harmonization, as they need appropriate time to update and synchronize with the system. Second, if we allocate a large amount of time, stall system created. Random allocation of synchronization time for parallel systems slows down not only the booting time of the system but also the execution time of each application involved in the system. This paper presents a simulator used to test and allocate appropriate synchronization time for distributed and parallel heterogeneous systems. The simulator creates the parallel and heterogeneous system to be evaluated, and lets the user vary the synchronization time to optimize the booting time. NS3-cGEM5 simulator in this paper is formed by HLA-RTI federation integration of the two independent architecture and network simulators - NS3 and cGEM5. Therefore, nodes created on these simulators need synchronizations for harmonized system performance. We tested and allocated the appropriate synchronization time for our sample parallel system composed of one x86 server and three ARM clients.

  • In this study, the system level network simulation is considered with adaptive array antenna in CDMA mobile communication system. A network simulation framework is implemented based on IS-95A/B system to consider dynamic handoff, system level network behavior, and deploying strategy into the overall CDMA mobile communication network under adaptive array algorithm. Its simulation model, such as vector channel model, adaptive beam forming antenna model, handoff model, and power control model, are described in detail with simulation block. In order to maximize SINR of received signal at antenna, maximin algorithm is particularly considered, and it is computed at each simulation snap shot with SINR based power control and handoff algorithm. Graphic user interface in this system level network simulator is also implemented to define the simulation environments and to represent simulation results on real mapping system. This paper also shows some features of simulation framework and simulation results.

  • This dissertation suggests and implements a middle level network which is called PICNET-NP (Plant Implementation and Control Network for Nuclear Power Plant). PICNET-NP is based partly on IEEE 802.4 token-passing bus access method and partly on IEEE 802.3 physical layer. For this purpose a new interface a physical layer service translator, is introduced. A control network using this method is implemented and applied to a distributed real-time system. To verify the performance of proposed protocol experimental were carried out, and the following results are obtained. 1) proper initialization of the protocol. 2) normal receiving and transmission of data. 3) proper switching of transmission media in case of a fault condition on the one of transmission media. The proposed protocol exhibits the excellent performance in the experimental system. From the test results in the experimental system, the proposed protocol, PICNET-NP, can be used for the upgrading of a nuclear power plant and the distributed control system in the next generation of nuclear power plant.

  • In this paper, we carried out performance comparison of four routing protocols that had been proposed for mobile ad hoc networks using the NS-3 network simulator. Those four routing protocols consist of two proactive routing protocols, DSDV(destination-sequenced distance vector) and OLSR(optimized link state routing), and two reactive routing protocols, AODV(ad-hoc on-demand distance vector) and DSR(dynamic source routing). Two performance metrics, system throughput and packet delivery ratio, are adopted and performance evaluation was carried out in a square communication area where each communicating mobile node moves independently. Numerical results show that the AODV routing protocol provides the best performance among those four routing protocols.

  • Increasing transportation dependence on the metro system has lead to the convenience of passengers becoming as important as the transportation capacity. In this study, a pedestrian simulator has been developed that can quantitatively assess the pedestrian environment in terms of attributes such as speed and distance. The simulator consists of modules designed for 3D indoor map authoring and algorithmic pedestrian modeling. Module functions for 3D indoor map authoring include 3D spatial modeling, network generation, and evaluation of obtained results. The pedestrian modeling algorithm executes functions such as conducting a path search, allocation of users, and evaluation of level of service (LOS). The primary objective behind developing the said functions is to apply and analyze various scenarios repeatedly, such as before and after the improvement of the pedestrian environment, and to integrate the spatial information database with the dynamic information database. Furthermore, to demonstrate the practical applicability of the proposed simulator in the future, a test-bed was constructed for a currently operational metro station and the quantitative index of the proposed improvement effect was calculated by analyzing the walking speed of pedestrians before and after the improvement of the passage. The possibility of database extension for further analysis has also been discussed in this study.

  • In this paper, an application of fuzzy-neuron reasoning to the control of an activated sludge plant is presented. The activated sludge process is widely used in modern wastewater treatment plants. The operation control of the activated sludge process, however, is difficult due to the following reasons : 1)The complexity of the wastewater components, 2)the change of the wastewater influent, and 3)the adjustment errors in the control process. Because of these reasons, it is difficult to obtain mathematical model that really reflect the relationship between the variables and parameters in the process of wastewater treatment correctively and effectively. In this paper, the activated sludge process(A.S.P.) is modeled by a new fuzzy-neuron network representing nonlinear characteristics. These fuzzy-neurons have fuzzy rules with complementary membership function. Based on the constructed model, graphic simulator on X-window system as a graphic integrated environment is implemented. The efficacy of the proposed control scheme was evaluated and demonstrated by means of the field test.

  • In this paper, we develope the simulation model for Ethernet passive optical networks (Ethernet-PON) by using OPNET. Ethernet-PON is an emerging access network technology that provides a low-cost method of deploying optical access lines. The simulator uses a Request/Grant TDMA MAC protocol based on IEEE 802.3ah EFM. It also executes registration, ranging and dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm by exchanging control packets between OLT and ONUs. We have evaluated for success ratio of initial registration process and delay of late registration process. We also have simulated for dynamic TDMA protocol and static TDMA protocol in terms of channel utilization and queueing delay. We expect that this simulator can help to determine various parameters which are considered for designing Ethernet-PON system.

  • This paper analyzes ship area network(SAN) with integrated gateway. For the analysis, this paper analyzes reference network architecture, end-to-end connection model, traffic model, and requirement of SAN. Also, the type of network element and minimum performance of integrated gateway is derived by ship area network simulator. The performance evaluation results show that a integrated gateway operating as network switch with performance over than 30,000 packets/sec can provides end-to-end connection with satisfaction of requirement of each end-to-end connection.

  • As the wireless communication technologies are being studied for application to maritime communication networks in a fusion of marine industries and IT technology, interference coordination techniques have been studied in the maritime heterogeneous networks. In this paper, we develop a simulator for measuring, verifying and evaluating performance of a maritime heterogeneous network. Unlike other previous simulators, the developed simulator applies enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) that are being introduced in the 3GPP Release 10 for mitigating the cross-tier interference between ships. Furthermore, we investigate the effects of almost blank subframes (ABS) and cell range expansion (CRE) on the throughput of small cells in maritime heterogeneous networks by using the developed simulator.

  • Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) is a widely adopted Internet of Things (IoT) protocol due to its high range and lower energy consumption. LoRaWAN utilizes Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) for efficient resource (e.g., spreading factor and transmission power) management. The ADR manages these two resource parameters on the network server side and end device side. This paper focuses on analyzing the ADR and Gaussian ADR performance of LoRaWAN. We have performed NS3 simulation under a static scenario by varying the antenna height. The simulation results showed that antenna height has a significant impact on the packet delivery ratio. Higher antenna height (e.g., 50 m) has shown an improved packet success ratio when compared with lower antenna height (e.g., 10 m) in static and mobility scenarios. Based on the results, it is suggested to use the antenna at higher allevation for successful packet delivery.
