This paper proposes a novel deinterlacing algorithm using neighboring deinterlacing pixels directions weight, which can obtain the true deinterlacing direction of the interpolated pixel. The proposed algorithm determines the direction of the current interpolated pixel using MELA direction determination method. To obtain more accurate deinterlacing direction and increase interpolation direction correlation, the directions of neighboring pixels around the current interpolated pixel are considered. The current direction and the neighboring majority direction are compared to decide an interpolated method. But it cost slightly CPU time increasing since neighboring pixels directions determination and statistics. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional deinterlacing methods.

In this paper, a pixel value prediction algorithm using edge components in three directions is proposed. There are various directional edges and similarity between adjacent pixels in natural images. After detecting the edge components in the x-axis direction, the y-axis direction, and the diagonal axis direction, the pixel value is predicted by applying the detected edge components and similarity between neighboring pixels. In particular, the predicted pixel value is calculated according to the intensity of the edge component in the diagonal axis direction. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively predict pixel values. The proposed algorithm can be used for applications such as reversible data hiding, reversible watermarking to increase the number of embedded data.
This paper proposes an efficient image encryption scheme based on quintuple encryption using two chaotic maps. The encryption process is realized with quintuple encryption by calling the encrypt(E) and decrypt(D) functions five times with five different keys in the form EDEEE. The decryption process is accomplished in the reverse direction by invoking the encrypt and decrypt functions in the form DDDED. The keys for the quintuple encryption/decryption processes are generated by using a Tent map. The chaotic values for the encrypt/decrypt operations are generated by using a Gumowski-Mira map. The encrypt function E is composed of three stages: permutation, pixel value rotation and diffusion. The permutation stage scrambles all the rows and columns to chaotically generated positions. This stage reduces the correlation radically among the neighboring pixels. The pixel value rotation stage circularly rotates all the pixels either left or right, and the amount of rotation is based on chaotic values. The last stage performs the diffusion four times by scanning the image in four different directions: Horizontally, Vertically, Principal diagonally and Secondary diagonally. Each of the four diffusion steps performs the diffusion in two directions (forward and backward) with two previously diffused pixels and two chaotic values. This stage ensures the resistance against the differential attacks. The security and performance of the proposed method is investigated thoroughly by using key space, statistical, differential, entropy and performance analysis. The experimental results confirm that the proposed scheme is computationally fast with security intact.
In this paper an efficient image encryption scheme based on cyclic rotations and multiple blockwise diffusions with two chaotic maps is proposed. A Sin map is used to generate round keys for the encryption/decryption process. A Pomeau-Manneville map is used to generate chaotic values for permutation, pixel value rotation and diffusion operations. The encryption scheme is composed of three stages: permutation, pixel value rotation and diffusion. The permutation stage performs four operations on the image: row shuffling, column shuffling, cyclic rotation of all the rows and cyclic rotation of all the columns. This stage reduces the correlation significantly among neighboring pixels. The second stage performs circular rotation of pixel values twice by scanning the image horizontally and vertically. The amount of rotation is based on $M{\times}N$ chaotic values. The last stage performs the diffusion four times by scanning the image in four different ways: block of $8{\times}8$ pixels, block of $16{\times}16$ pixels, principal diagonally, and secondary diagonally. Each of the above four diffusions performs the diffusion in two directions (forwards and backwards) with two previously diffused pixels and two chaotic values. This stage makes the scheme resistant to differential attacks. The security and performance of the proposed method is analyzed systematically by using the key space, entropy, statistical, differential and performance analysis. The experimental results confirm that the proposed method is computationally efficient with high security.

When H.264 encoded video streams are transmitted over wireless network, packet loss is unavoidable. Responding on this environment, we propose methods to recover missed motion vector in the decoder: At first, A candidate vector set for missing macroblock is estimated from high correlation coefficient of neighboring motion vectors and missing block vectors the algorithm clusters candidate vectors through distances amongst motion vectors of neighboring blocks. Then the optimal candidate vector is determined by the median value of the clustered motion vector set. In next stage, from the candidate vector set, the final candidate vector of missing block is determined it has minimum distortion value considering directions of neighboring pixels' boundary. Test results showed that the proposed algorithm decreases the candidate motion vectors $23{\sim}61%$ and reduces $3{\sim}4sec$ on average processing(decoding) time comparing the existing H.264 codec. The PSNR, in terms of visual quality is similar to existing methods.
In this paper, we present a novel local descriptor, Local Prominent Directional Pattern (LPDP), to represent the description of facial images for gender recognition purpose. To achieve a clearly discriminative representation of local shape, presented method encodes a target pixel with the prominent directional variations in local structure from an analysis of statistics encompassed in the histogram of such directional variations. Use of the statistical information comes from the observation that a local neighboring region, having an edge going through it, demonstrate similar gradient directions, and hence, the prominent accumulations, accumulated from such gradient directions provide a solid base to represent the shape of that local structure. Unlike the sole use of gradient direction of a target pixel in existing methods, our coding scheme selects prominent edge directions accumulated from more samples (e.g., surrounding neighboring pixels), which, in turn, minimizes the effect of noise by suppressing the noisy accumulations of single or fewer samples. In this way, the presented encoding strategy provides the more discriminative shape of local structures while ensuring robustness to subtle changes such as local noise. We conduct extensive experiments on gender recognition datasets containing a wide range of challenges such as illumination, expression, age, and pose variations as well as sketch images, and observe the better performance of LPDP descriptor against existing local descriptors.

A demosaicing method for a Bayer-like W-RGB color filter array (CFA) is proposed. When reproducing images from a W-RGB CFA, conventional color separation methods for W-RGB CFA are likely to cause blurring near the edges due to rough averaging using a color ratio of neighboring pixels. Moreover, these methods cannot be applied to real-life digital cameras with W-RGB CFA because the methods were proposed under an ideal situation, W=R+G+B, not a real-life situation, $W{\neq}R+G+B$. To improve edge performance, we propose a method of constant color difference assumption with inversed weight, which uses information from all edge directions for interpolating all missing color channels. The proposed method calculates the correlation between W, R, G, and B to enable its application to real-life digital cameras with W-RGB CFA. Simulations were performed to evaluate the proposed method using images captured from a real-life digital camera with W-RGB CFA. Simulation results shows that we can demosaic by using the proposed algorithm compared with the conventional one in about +34.79% SNR, +11.43% PSNR, +1.54% SSIM and 14.02% S-CIELAB error. Thus, the proposed method demosaics better than the conventional methods.
In this paper, an intra prediction offset compensation method is proposed to improve intra prediction in H.264/AVC. In H.264/AVC, intra prediction based on various directions improves the coding efficiency by removing spatial correlation between neighboring blocks. In details, neighboring pixels in reconstructed block can be used as intra reference block for the current block to be coded when intra prediction method is used. In order to reduce further the prediction error of the intra reference block, the proposed method introduces an intra prediction offset which is determined in the sense of the rate-distortion optimization and is added to the conventional intra prediction block. Besides the intra prediction offset compensation, the coefficient thresholding method which is used for inter coding in JM 11.0, is used for chroma component in intra block, which leads the improvement of the luma coding efficiency of the proposed method. In experiments, we show that the proposed method achieves average 2.45% in High Profile condition and maximum 4.41% of bitrate reduction relative to JM 11.0.
