A Study on the Applicability of the Crack Measurement Digital Data Graphics Program for Field Investigations of Buildings Adjacent to Construction Sites (건설 현장 인접 건물의 현장 조사를 위한 균열 측정 디지털 데이터 그래픽 프로그램 적용 가능성에 관한 연구)

  • Through the development of construction technology, various construction projects such as redevelopment projects, undergrounding of roads, expansion of subways, and metro railways are being carried out. However, this has led to an increase in the number of construction projects in existing urban centers and neighborhoods, resulting in an increase in the number of damages and disputes between neighboring buildings and residents, as well as an increase in safety accidents due to the aging of existing buildings. In this study, digital data was applied to a graphics program to objectify the progress of cracks by comparing the creation of cracks and the increase in length and width through photographic images and presenting the degree of cracks numerically. Through the application of the program, the error caused by the subjective judgment of crack change, which was mentioned as a shortcoming of the existing field survey, was solved. It is expected that the program can be used universally in the building diagnosis process by improving its reliability if supplemented and improved in the process of use. As a follow-up study, it is necessary to apply the extraction algorithm of the digital graphic data program to calculate the length and width of the crack by itself without human intervention in the preprocessing work and to check the overall change of the building.

Research on the Food Habits of Housewives of Korean Students Residing in a Southern Region of Texas, U.S.A. (미국 Texas 일부 지역에 거주하는 한국 유학생 부인들의 식생활습관에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to research on the preparing fermented foods and food habits of Korean women in Texas U. S. A. The preparing method of fermented foods and food habits of Korean housewives whose husbands are studying at the various universities in Houston, Texas are surveyed. The analysed results indicated were as follows ; 1. 64.4% of women were in the thirties at their age, those in twenties 29.7%. 75.2% of subject graduated college. Period of residence in America were 52.5% under 3yr, 25.7% over 5yr. The respondents were aged twenties(29.7%) to thirties(64.4%) who have graduated from college(75.2%) or graduate school(24.8%) and have had the residence period of less than three-(52.5%) to more than five years(25.7%). 2. The kind of cuisine chosen for dinner were Korean style food. The most considerable person when preparing menu were husband. 48.51% of those in age were 3∼39yr(p < 0.1). 60.40% of the response graduated college(p < 0.1). The Korean-style foods overwhelmed over western ones in their frequency for dinner(82.2% vs. 17.8%). The person most considered for choosing menu was their husbands as responded by the majority groups of aged thirties(48.5%), college graduates(60.4%) and residence period of less than three years(42.6%). They satisfied comparatively when they prepared the meal (p < 0.1). 55.4% of the response learned cooking method from neighbor, 39.6% of remainder studied from cuisine book, newspaper, magazine, TV. They satisfied comparatively for the preparation of the meal(56.4%) and have learned the new methods of cooking from neighborhoods(55.4%) or cuisine book, newspaper, magazine and TV(39.6%). 3. The frequency of eating-out mostly had once a month. 30.69% of response were 30∼39yr(p < 0.1). 33.66% of subjects lived under 3yr in America. Eating-out once a month occupied 30.7, 33.7, and 20.7% of the selected group of aged thirties, college graduates, and residence periods of less than three years, each respectively. The type of food selecting eating-out were western style. 38.31% of them were 30∼39yr(p < 0.1). 39.60% of them graduated college(p < 0.1). 29.70% of them lived under 3yr in America. For eating-out menu, the western-style foods were most favored by the groups of aged thirties(38.3%), college graduates(39.6%), and residence periods of less than three years(29.7%). 4. 50.5% of subject had beef once three days, 23.8% of the response had pork once two weeks, 27.7% of subject ate chicken once two weeks, 34.7% of the response enjoyed fish once a week. Eating animal foods once three days for beef(50.5%), once two weeks for pork(23.8%) and chicken(27.7%), and once a week for fish(34.7%) were most frequent. 5. Korean traditional fermented food were mostly enjoyed in order of kanjang(91.1 %), kochujang(87.2%), fermented fish(85.1%), deonjang(81.2%), jang-a-chi(76.2%). 81.2% of subject used prepared-food by themselves. 56.4% of response made kimch at home. Among Korean traditional fermented foods, kimchi(56.4%) and prepared side dishes(81.2%) were provided at home while kanjang(91.1%), kochujang(87.2%), fermented fish(85.1%), deonjang(81.2%), and jang-a-chi(76.2%) were mostly purchased from stores.

The Pattern of Pusan Station Shopping District( I ) (부산역(釜山驛) 상점가(商店街)의 패턴( I ))

  • This study concern with the pattern of Pusan Station Shopping District within Pusan City, Korea, one of the third ranked centers within Pusan-the first ranked is CBD, the second is subCBD, the third are Spa Shopping district, Tongnae shopping district, Jobang-Ap shopping district and Yangjeong shopping district. This paper serves as a part of series studies which attempt to clarify the internal structure of Pusan as a whole. Part(I) of this study deals with the pattern of functions including information & culture, business, recreation and retailing. The results are as follows. 1. Pusan Station is one of higher ranked class of central places within Pusan City. But the ratio of dwelling houses is the highest in Pusan Station among the 9 higher ranked central places within Pusan. It means that the residential areas still remain along the maze type of narrower streets inner part of the blocks, especially western belt of this shopping district. 2. Business functions are one of the important criteria which classified the central places within the city and Pusan Station is the first ranked shopping districts in terms of these criteria among the 9 higher ranked central places including CBD within Pusan City. It suggests that Pusan Station is the miniature of the CBD, SubCBD is not the miniature of CBD in the view point of business function. It also means that Pusan Station Shopping District has been developed as a special shopping district or as a special central place. It has not been evolved as a center of the hierarchy of central places within the city by the natural or organic growth. 3. Pusan Station as 'the third space or drinking place' and it's characteristics as a amusement center presents at so called the 'Texas Town'-free tax area- whose customers are mainly U. S. soldiers and foreign sailors. But from the 1990s, this 'Town' changed to 'Russian Town', You can easy to meet many Russians and Russian lettered signboards-not English- along the street. 4. Convenient stores distribute mainly at back streets or along the narrower streets. It means that this kinds of stores have a residential oriented character. And a certain convenient stores locate with almost same distances. It suggests that it's hinterland is limited in nearer neighborhoods.

  • Southern Louisiana has one of the largest Vitnamese refrgee neighborhoods after the mid-1970s. It is impressive that one of their adaptive strategies comes from their religious lives which are centered on either Catholicism or Buddhism. The Buddhism community, especially, exhibits an exotic symbolic system of value and attitude, and thus contributes to cultural diversity in the adopted country. The landscape of the Buddhist temple is a visible symbol to them that the host socirty accepts their maintenance of their own cultural identity and that they are also an integral part of American society. Their making-place and being-in-place procedures, although their culture is being transformed in the original shape, put an emphasis on interaction with the host xociety. These procedures have been facilitated by consolidating their identity as a minority group as well as by interacting with the host society. The on-going influx of foreign immigrant groups seems not to drive them to assimilate into the melting-pot society, but to contribute to contribute to the increase in the cultural diversity of the United States.
