In order to remove wrinkles, laser, ulthera and drug therapy are commonly used in western medicine while Miso facial rejuvenation acupuncture, $Jung-An$ acupuncture and needle-embedding therapy are used in oriental medicine. However, as researches on fine wrinkles have been insufficiently conducted until now. Dermal subcision stated in this study is considered to be a safe and effective way to ameliorate fine linear-shaped wrinkles around or below eyes and mouth by increasing the circulation of qi and blood. also, reproducing dermal layer. More and further related cases and researches are expected in the future.

  • Objectives : We were studied the retaining needle to offer basic materials for the study of it. methods: To study the retaining needle, we were reviewed the ancient, the present text and the thesis. Results: 1. There are many ways form general acupuncture technique to needle-embedding therapy by the spending time of the retaining needle. 2. The method retaining needle is divided into Active method of the retaining needle(動留針法) and Passive methoid of the retaining needle(靜留針法) by the existence of Qi-promoting. 3. In case of Deficiency Syndrome, protracted discase, dolorific disorder, convulsive disorder, and Cold Syndrome, the spending time of the retaining needle takes longer, in case of Heat Syndrome and exterior Syndrome, the spending time of the retaining needle takes shorter. 4. In case of acute disease and attack of chronic disease, we can use Active methoid of the retaining needle(動留鍼法) with retaining needle for a long time, in case of chronic disease, we can use Passive methoid of the retaining needle(靜留針法). 5. In case of Young people, a man in the prime of life, and a people who can stand the stimulation of needle, we can make the spending time of the retaining needle be longer and use Active methoid of the retaining needle(動留針法), but in case of a baby and a weak people, we had better shorten the spending time of the retaining needle or not do it. 6. The spending time of the retaining needle must be shorter in spring and summer, must be longer in fall and winter. 7. The spending time of the retaining needle is various by acupuncture point. 8. When the spending time of the retaining needle is too longer, we can injure Vital-qi of a patient, otherwise in opposite situation, Pathogenic is stagnated so pathogenic stage is repeated.

  • Objectives : This study was to investigate the effects of Oriental medical treatment on ALS. Methods : We investigated 12 ALS patients which were admitted to Gwang-Ju O.M.hospital for 3 months and follow-up at 8 months after discharge. All patients were treated by SAAM-acupuncture, herb medication, Bee venom Pharmacopuncture therapy, Needle-embedding therapy, etc and after discharge self-therapy at home. We evaluated patients using the Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Functional Rating Scale-Revised(ALSFRS-R), Medical Research Council (MRC) Scale. Results : After 1 month, mean ALSFRS-R score of patients was $29.08{\pm}7.99$, 2 months $28.70{\pm}7.17$, 3 months $28.16{\pm}8.23$, 1 year $21.33{\pm}9.93$ and mean MRC Scale of patients was $25.34{\pm}8.45$, 2 months $25.34{\pm}8.45$, 3months $21.56{\pm}9.20$. But in both cases, the variation was not statistically significant. Conclusions : We think that the results of this case be a pilot study that proves the effect of Oriental Medical treatment on ALS.

Methods : We investigated 12 ALS patients which were admitted to Gwang-Ju O.M. hospital from Oct. 14, 2008 to Nov. 14, 2008. All patients were treated by SAAM-acupuncture, herb medication, Bee venom Pharmacopuncture therapy, Needle-embedding therapy, etc. We evaluated patients using the Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Functional Rating Scale-Revised(ALSFRS-R), Medical Research Council (MRC) Scale. Results : After 30 days, mean ALSFRS-R score of patients was improved from $28.42{\pm}7.83$ to $29.08{\pm}7.99$, and mean MRC Scale of patients was improved from $24.79{\pm}8.37$ to $25.34{\pm}8.45$. But in both cases, the variation was not statistically significant. After 30 days, mean ALSFRS-R score and mean MRC Scale of patients was more improved in subjects with bulbar-onset, onset age: 51-60yrs., disease duration: 24-48mo. And the results showed partially significant difference. Conclusions : We think that the results of this case be a pilot study that proves the effect of Oriental Medical treatment on ALS.

  • This study was performed to report the case of Korean medical treatment for the Patulous Eustachian tube patient with headache. The patient was treated by acupuncture, herbal medicine, bee venom injection, needle-embedding therapy, chuna therapy, release of cranial base and sacro-occipital therapy. Korean medical treatment was administered during 3 weeks. The improvement of clinical symptoms was evaluated by VAS (visual analogue scale) and SF-36 (36-Item Short Form Healthy Survey Instrument). After treatment, most symptoms decreased, headache VAS score changed 10 to 6 and tinnitus VAS score changed 10 to 5. Also, most SF-36 scores increased. Our study suggested that Korean medical treatments are effective in the patient with Patulous Eustachian tube. And further studies are required to identify underlying mechanism of treatment.

  • Objectives The aim of this study was to analyze the trends of researches on oriental medicine treatments for supraspinatus tendinopathy. Methods We used five databases for searching researches; Korean studies Information Service System, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, Research Information Sharing Service, PubMed, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Only randomized controlled trials suitable for the subject were selected. The methodological quality of included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was assessed by the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Results Twenty randomized controlled trials were analyzed. There were 9 types of treatment interventions; acupuncture, acupotomy, pharmacopuncture, electroacupuncture, fire needling, warming needle, catgut-embedding therapy, herbal medicine, cupping. The most frequently used treatment intervention was acupuncture and acupotomy. There were 9 outcome measurements including visual analog scale (VAS), Constant-Murley Score (CMS), and range of motion. The most used measurement was VAS. As a result of meta-analysis, acupuncture was more effective than control group in VAS. Additionally, acupotomy was clinically significant compared to control groups in VAS and CMS. Conclusions In this review, we analyzed researches on effectiveness of oriental medicine for supraspinatus tendinopathy. A provisional conclusion can be produced that acupuncture and acupotomy showed beneficial effect to supraspinatus tendinopathy. Although there were some RCT studies, many of them had a high risk of bias, so it is hard to conclude that our study can include overall clinical status. Further well-designed trials are needed.

This study is to report a case of delayed facial palsy and dizziness in Miller-Fisher syndrome, treated with traditional Korean medicine. Methods : A 57-year-old male was diagnosed with Miller-Fisher syndrome accompanied by neurological symptoms such as right facial palsy and dizziness. He received traditional Korean medicine treatment such as acupuncture(including pharmacopuncture, needle embedding therapy, electroacupuncture) and herbal medicine for 17 days. Results : Each neurological symptoms were improved after traditional Korean medicine. In case of facial palsy, House Brackmann Grading System was reduced form grade 3 to grade 2, and Sunnybrook Scale was improved from 39 to 55. Also, other symptoms such as dizziness and headache was also improved. Conclusions : This case report suggests that traditional Korean medicine may have a role in treating neurological symptoms such as facial palsy and dizziness in patient diagnosed with Miller-Fisher syndrome.
