How would environmental education be implemented for effectiveness today? Deep reflection on the way of teaching environment in classes to achieve effectiveness is required. If there exist differences in students' environmental perception depending on environment class pattern, its most effective way should be looked for. In environmental education, inducing the students to have advisable attitude voluntary about environment is more important than teaching them environmental knowledge. From such view, students' active participation is necessary for successful environmental classes. Students need to be set to share their principle, values, attitude about environment problems at environmental class through presentation which is important factor to make them have advisable environmental attitude. Therefore, environmental class need to be carried out student-led way. For that, a class model need to be designed which will be helpful for the students to arrange and elaborate their emitting thought about environment problems through disclosing their thoughts to share them with fellow students which will end up in their advisable environmental attitude. This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of environmental collage making class contributive to offering various environmental perception to students and grasping others' thinking about environment. Fifty-eight 10th graders at U Science High School in Ulsan metropolitan city were selected for the study that carried out from 2010 April to June by choosing total 10 environmental themes divided into environmental collage making class applied to the 30 test group students, and general environmental class applied to 28 control group students. Following are the study results. First, in students' environmental sensitivity, the students in the environmental collage making class appeared to be higher compared with them in general environmental class. Second, in students' intentional environment action, the students in the environmental collage making class appeared to be higher compared with them in general environmental class. Third, in students' satisfaction with environmental class, the students in the environmental collage making class appeared to be higher compared with them in general environmental class.
Background: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of workers' perceived workload, accident experiences, supervisors' safety leadership, and an organization's safety climate on the cognitive and emotional risk perception. Methods: Six hundred and twenty employees in a variety of manufacturing organizations were asked to complete to a questionnaire. Among them, a total of 376 employees provided valid data for analysis. To test the hypothesis, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were used. Statistical analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS program, version 23. Results: The results indicated that workload and accident experiences have a positive influence and safety leadership and safety climate have a negative influence on the cognitive and emotional risk perception. Workload, safety leadership, and the safety climate influence perceived risk more than accident experience, especially for the emotional risk perception. Conclusion: These results indicated that multilevel factors (organization, group, and individual) play a critical role in predicting individual risk perceptions. Based on these results, therefore, to reduce risk perception related with unsafe behaviors and accidents, organizations need to conduct a variety of safety programs that enhance their safety climate beyond simple safety-related education and training. Simultaneously, it needs to seek ways to promote supervisors' safety leadership behaviors (e.g., site visits, feedback, safety communication, etc.). In addition, it is necessary to adjust work speed and amount and allocate task considering employees' skill and ability to reduce the workload for reducing risk perception.
Purpose: This research aimed to identify levels of nurses' perception and practice of fluid intake and output (I & O) measurement and to explore the relationship between perception and practice of it. Methods: Using a cross-sectional survey design, 195 nurses who practiced fluid I & O measurement were recruited from a general hospital. Nurses who agreed to participate in this study completed a structured study questionnaire to assess their levels of perception and practice of fluid I & O measurement. Results: A level of perception of I & O measurement was high (3.46 points out of 5), and scores for 3 subdomains of I & O (importance, accuracy, and efficacy) were evenly high. The level of practice of I & O was fairly high (3.76 points out of 5). Perception and practice of I & O were highly correlated (r=.73, p<.001). Conclusion: Nurses seem to have higher levels of perception and do practice fluid I & O measurement correctly. In order to have reliable and valid I & O measures, nurses need to have continuous education on I & O measurement based on clinical guideline to utilize it as an invaluable clinical instrument.
This study aimed to evaluate the perception of nutrition teachers about emergency meals in all schools affiliated with the Seoul Office of Education. The purpose of this study was to suggest the need for emergency meals and provide directions for future development, thereby assisting meal service sites. An online survey was conducted from May 26 to 31, 2021, analyzing 130 collected samples. The summary of the results is as follows: First, the nutrition teachers recognized the need for school meal services for the prevention of the spread of infectious diseases and considered the variance among school meal consumers. Also, they generally thought of emergency meals due to the need for social distancing and the decrease in the distribution of food. Secondly, in terms of the differences in the perception about emergency meals, nutrition teachers (45.4%) who have provided emergency meals (t=2.584, P<0.05) were more aware of the need for emergency meals than nutrition teachers (54.6%) who had not provided emergency meals. Nutrition teachers conceived emergency meals to minimize the contact between people (45.6%) and to rectify the imbalance in nutrition (37.5). Next, emergency meal attributes were observed to be ranked in the order of convenience (3.49), safety (3.15), and satisfaction (2.88). Fourthly, although there were no meaningful differences in emergency meal attributes, there were statistically significant differences in the safety of the cooking process, menu familiarity, the low unit price compared to regular meals and the excellent satisfaction with nutrition provided (t=2.603, P<0.05), (t=2.039, P<0.05), (t=2.154, P<0.05), (t=2.477, P<0.05) respectively.
This study was conducted to investigate housewives' perception, interest and consumption of health drinks made in a health food stores, and to assess the relationsh- ip between nutritionally-related-variables and the consumption of health drinks. Data was collected from 518 housewives in Chonnam province. Among many items which housewives perceived about health drinks, three factors of 'preference·health-care', ' quality·convenience' and 'price' were found to be represented. Housewives' perception of 'preference·health-care' was negatively correlated with nutritional knowledge. However, a positive correlation between the 'quality·convenience' and eating habits was found. Consumption of health drinks was positively correlated with the diet management score, the perception and interest in health drinks. However, the inverse relationship between consumption of health drinks and nutritional knowledge was observed. Multiple regression analysis showed that the interest and factors of perception of health drinks. Consumption of health drinks was not based upon accurate knowledge concerning nutrition, but was based upon the consumers' perception of taste preference and healthful quality. Therefore, there is a need to educate consumers about the nutritional value of health drinks and how to use nutritional supplements.
Purpose: This study is to determine knowledge about early detection and risk perception of cancer according to taking cancer screening tests in the general population. Methods: The participants were 151 people aged 40 years or older. A questionnaire consisted of knowledge about early detection (warning signs, cancer screening methods, general knowledge for early detection), cancer risk perception and history of cancer screening during past 2 years. Results: The percentages of correct answers were 64.7% in knowledge about warning signs, 73.7% in knowledge of cancer screening tests and 80.1% in general knowledge for early detection. Participants had the highest knowledge about screening methods for stomach cancer and the lowest for liver and colon cancer. The level of risk perception was medium. The participants who participated in cancer screening showed lower risk perception than those who did not. There was no significant relationship between knowledge and performance of cancer screening. The primary reason for not participating in cancer screening was patient's perception of their own health. Conclusion: These results suggest that cancer risk perception can affect the performance of cancer screening and we need to study how to handle this problem. Additionally screening programs should focus on liver cancer and colon cancer.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the rehabilitation nursing services what nurses recognize to be important and what they do in practice of the industrial workers. Method: The subjects were 150 nurses who were working at the industrial hospital. The questionnaire was made up with 43 items about the perception on importance and performance of rehabilitation services. Result: The highest services in the perception on importance and performance subscale were physical and therapeutic services. The highest difference between perception on importance and performance was the social and occupational services. The perception on importance of rehabilitation services had positive correlation with performance. The group take care of general patients had a higher level of perception on importance than the other group, and level of performance had significant difference with age and position. Conclusion: We need to develop the strategy for promoting the performance of services that recognize it will be important services, but not to do. Further study on system for promoting the nurse practitioner who responsible for rehabilitation nursing.
Purpose: The aims of the study were to investigate relationships among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' attitude, role perception, and nursing stress related to life sustaining treatment (LST), and secondly, to identify factors influencing nursing stress about LST. Methods: Participants were 202 conveniently sampled ICU nurses from general hospitals in Korea with over 300 beds. From December 1, 2015 to January 31, 2016, data were collected using structured questionnaires. The questionnaire was designed to measure nursing stress related to LST. Content validity and reliability was established for the instrument. Results: Relationships were found between attitude and role perception, and between role perception and nursing stress about LST. Participants' role perception, gender, education level, and the experience of dealing with family members of patients receiving LST accounted for 13% of variance in nursing stress about LST. Conclusion: Results confirmed that ICU nurses' role perception affects nursing stress about LST. Accordingly, the nursing education programs related to LST should aim to enhance role perception of nurses, and strategies to reduce the nursing stress about LST of the nurses in ICU need to be further developed.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the perception of importance about prerequisite program(PRP) of dietitians. A questionnaire was developed to achieve research objectives and sent to random samples of 450 dietitians by a mail from July to August in 2000 ; 242(54%) responses were analyzed. The respondents used three-point-scale to rate their perception of importance about PRP from 1-"will be necessary" to 3-"very important". All statistical analyses were conducted using SAS package(version 8.12) in order to have means, standard deviations, One-way analysis of variance, Duncan’s multiple range test and t-test. The study results were summarized as follows. The rates of perception of importance about PRP were significantly different from 21 of the 37 contents among business and industry, health care and school foodservice and were significantly different from 16 of the 37 contents among direct and contract management(p<.05 or p<.01 or p<.001). Dietitians in business and industry had lowest perception of importance about PRP of other respondents. Generally, the item related to ‘‘employee hygiene practice’ had the highest perception level score among PRP in foodservice facilities. Results indicate that there is a need for increased education of dietitians about PRP and appropriate practices.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess critical care nurses' perception, knowledge, and nursing practices regarding enteral nutrition. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with 187 nurse participants who worked in one of the eight medical and surgical intensive care units (ICUs) from four hospitals in Korea. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: Although critical care nurses' perception toward enteral nutrition was high, knowledge was relatively low. The overall perception and knowledge of the nurses did not differ significantly between medical ICU and surgical ICU nurses. Perception of their own knowledge, in particular, 'nutritional goal' was lower for medical ICU nurses compared to surgical ICU nurses. Nurses also had limited knowledge about the significance of enteral nutrition, confirmation of feeding tube location, and nutritional requirements for ICU patients. They inadequately performed the following: changing the feeding tube every 24 hours, inspecting nostrils daily, and adjusting feeding schedule if feeding was stopped. Conclusion: Our results indicate that ICU nurses need up-to-date information about enteral nutrition. Based on the improved perception and knowledge, nursing practice activities with regard to enteral nutrition should be emphasized to enable nurses to provide optimal nutrition for ICU patients.
