  • This paper deals with a bearing faults localization technique based on holographic approach by visualizing sound radiated from the faults. The main idea stems from the phenomenon that bearing faults in a moving vehicle generate impulsive sound. To visualize fault signal from the moving vehicle, we can use the moving frame acoustic holography [Kwon, H.-S. and Kim, Y.-H., 1998, "Moving Frame Technique for Planar Acoustic Holography," J. Acoust. Soc. Am. Vol. 103, No. 4, pp. 1734${\sim}$1741]. However, it is not easy to localize faults only by applying the method. This is because the microphone array measures noise(for example, noise from other parts of the vehicle and the wind noise) as well as the fault signal while the vehicle passes by the array. To reduce the effect of noise, we propose two ideas which utilize the characteristics of fault signal. The first one is to average holograms for several frequencies to reduce the random noise. The second one is to apply the partial field decomposition algorithm [Nam, K.-U., Kim, Y.-H., 2004, "A Partial Field Decomposition Algorithm and Its Examples for Near-field Acoustic Holography," J. of Acoust. Soc. Am. Vol. 116, No. 1, pp. 172${\sim}$185] to the moving source, which can separate the fault signal and noise. Basic theory of those methods is introduced and how they can be applied to localize bearing faults is demonstrated. Experimental results via a miniature vehicle showed how well the proposed method finds out the location of source in practice.

  • X-band Waveguide slot way antenna is developed for heliborne MTD radar applications. The antenna is composed of multi-layer waveguide structures. Each of them has it's own functions, such as, radiation, power/phase distribution, coupling, etc. Broad-wall offset slots are used for radiators, inclined slots on broad-wall for power distribution to radiating(branch) waveguide, some kind of coaxial probe structures for in-phase coupling and H-plane T-junction power dividers. Antenna is realized by precision machining and careful assembly. It is tested and measured by 3m${\times}$l.7m planar near-field probe, which is set-up in MTG. Far-field calculations have good agreement in tolerable bounds. Special but necessary process such as brazing, will increase the accuracy and performance. Results show promising possibilities of future applications for real systems.

  • Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) is developing a coronagraph to measure the coronal electron density, temperature, and speed utilizing spectral change of the K-corona around 400 nm. However, near UV light is more affected by atmospheric effect on the ground than visible light. For the total solar eclipse on July 2 2019, KASI organized an expedition team to test the possibility of the similar measurement scheme in the visible light. The observation site was in Las Flores, San Juan, Argentina. We built an imaging spectrograph using micro lenslet array and grism, named Coronal Integral Field Spectrograph (CorIFS). In addition, images of white light corona, wide field background, and all sky were taken with various camera settings. We present the preliminary results of the expedition.

  • In this paper, the authors test various open codes and commercial codes based on CFD technology on the wind field around the complex terrain, which is a very important transport physics in the event of forrest fire. To study the physical mechanism inside the transition from surface fire to crown fire, the wake flow behind a parallel array of trees is studied numerically to show the flow separation in the turbulent boundary layer. Two sites near to Kunsan National University are chosen for the measurement of real wind field, and obtained data are compared with those from various computational codes such as Wind-Ninja, NIST-FDS, ANSYS-CFX, and ANSYS-FlUENT, etc. Through this research, feasibility and accuracy of the present CFD codes are investigated quantitatively, compared with the measured data with AWS.

  • A new design of a Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer(DDFS) is presented, where a pipelined Coordinate Rotate Digital Computer(CORDIC) circuit is employed to calculate amplitude values of all the phase angles of sinusoidal waveforms produced. a near-optimal number of pipeline stages is determined based on an error analysis of calculated amplitude values in terms of the number of bits. The DDFS was implemented using a field programmable gate array, yielding a stable operating frequency of 11.75MHz. The measurement results show higher resolution, faster operating speed and simpler fabrication process, compared to ROM-based counterparts. The CORDIC-based DDFS yields 5 times higher resolution than conventional ROM-based versions.

  • In this paper. we Propose a frequency domain beamforming algorithm composed of inverse-filtering stages followed by a MVDR (Minimum-Variance Distortionless Response) beamformer or a GSC (Generalized Sidelobe Canceller). The proposed method is shown to require less complexity than the conventional RTF-MVDR and TF-GSC. respectively, and it is shown that the Proposed method is equivalent to the conventional RTF-MVDR and TF-GSC in optimum solution. In order to evaluate the performance of the Proposed method. speech recognition experiments are performed using the speech database recorded in a car. The Proposed method shows equal or slightly degraded Performance comparing to the conventional methods in terms of the speech recognition rate.

  • Pantograph design Process must be considered in terms of stability of aerodynamics and reduction of aeroacoustics. Furthermore pantograph needs to be insensible to severe circumstance condition like typhoon, tunnel, a change of season. In this paper, robust design of panhead sections is conducted based on the Taguchi's design of experiment method. In the aeroacoustic noise analysis, an acoustic analogy using the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings(FW-H) equation is used to calculate the flow induced sound pressure level in aeroacoustics. From the near-field CFD analysis data, the far-field noise is predicted at the positions of 25 m away from Pantograph. Based on aerodynamic(CFD) and aeroacoustic(FW-H) analysis data, the optimal sizing and Positioning of panhead elements are determined using robust design optimization method. Design parameters such as thickness, length and radius are controllable factors, while outdoor air temperature and atmospheric pressure are considered as uncontrollable factors in the context of Taguchi's approach. A number of CFD simulation and aeroacoustic analysis are performed based on orthogonal arrays. In this paper, two-step optimization method is used as a parameter design procedure. It is executed using signal to noise(S/N) ratio and analysis of means(ANOM) method. So Thus, an optimal level of design parameters Is extracted to minimize the disconnection ration between contact strips and catenary system, and reduce the far-field aeroacoustic noise.

  • We probe 12CO J=2-1 and 13CO J=1-0 properties of a Virgo disk galaxy, NGC 4402 which is located near the cluster center. Our goal is to study the impact of intra cluster medium (ICM) on the molecular gas of a galaxy in the cluster environment. It has been believed that cluster galaxies are deficient in atomic hydrogen gas (HI gas) compared to their field counterparts and now there is much evidence that low density ISM can be easily removed by ram pressure caused by ICM wind. Meanwhile, no significant molecular gas deficiency of the cluster galaxy population has been found yet they show overall lower star formation rate than galaxies in the field, and it is still controversy whether dense ISM can be also stripped by the ICM wind or not. NGC 4402 with truncated HI disk($D_{HI}/D_{opt}$ ~ 0.75 and only 36%of HI gas compare to field galaxies of a similar size) and a disturbed gas morphology, appears to have strong ongoing ram pressure. Using high resolution 12 and 13CO data of NGC 4402 from a Sub Millimeter Array (SMA), we probe the molecular gas properties under strong ICM pressure. We discuss how its star formation activity and hence the global color of NGC4402 would be changed in the future.
