Currently, the operation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is regulated to be able to fly only within the visible range, but in recent years, the needs for operation in the invisible area, in the urban area and at night have increased. In order to operate UAVs in the invisible area, at night, and in the urban area, a flight path for UAVs must be prepared like those operated by manned aircraft, and for this, it is necessary to establish an unmanned aircraft system traffic management (UTM). In order to establish the UTM, information on the minimum separation distance to prevent collisions with UAVs and buildings is required, and accordingly, information on the navigation performance of UAVs is required. In order to analyze the navigation performance of an UAV, total system error (TSE), which is the difference between the planned flight path and the actual location of the UAV, is required. If the collected data are insufficient and classification according to integrity, independence, and direction is not performed, accurate navigation performance is not derived. In this paper, propose a navigation performance analysis method of UAV that is derived TSE using flight data and modeled with normal distribution, analyze performance.
Since GPS receivers and INS algorithms do not work properly in the spinning vehicles due to change of the GPS signal and excess of the measurement limitation of the gyroscope, conventional GPS/INS integrated navigation systems do not provide accurate navigation outputs. This paper proposes a design method for GPS/INS integrated navigation systems of spinning vehicles. A special GPS receiver with a signal tracking loop for changed GPS signal caused by spinning and an INS with a roll estimation method are configured and the conventional integration filter is combined. The proposed method was verified through comparison of the navigation results. The result of the proposed method for the spinning vehicle was similar to that of the conventional navigation system without spinning.
A cooperative navigation method for cooperative flight of UAVs is proposed. The commonly used navigation method for UAVs is based on GNSS measurements. However, when it is not available by jamming or other causes, an alternative method is needed. In this paper, it is shown that UAVs equipped with inertial sensors, passive sensor and wireless communication link can perform accurate navigation through sharing information with each other. Firstly, the appropriate roles for sensors and wireless communication link are assigned. Secondly, a filter to perform navigation cooperative is constructed. Finally, the boundedness of estimation error of the filter under small initial estimation error is analyzed. The simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce navigation errors effectively.
This paper discusses an autonomous navigation system for urban environments. For the localization of the robot, EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) algorithm is used with odometry, angle sensor, and DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) measurement. Especially in an urban environment, DGPS is often blocked by buildings and trees and the resulting inaccurate positioning prevents the robot from safe and reliable navigation. In addition to the global information from DGPS, the local information of the curb on the roadway is used to track a route when the global DGPS information is inaccurate. For this purpose, curb detection algorithm is developed and implemented in the developed navigation algorithm. Four different types of navigation strategies are developed and they are switched to adapt to different localization conditions according to the availability of DGPS and the existence of the curbs on the roadway. The experimental results show that the designed switching strategy improves the navigation performance adapting to the environment conditions.
This paper proposes a vision/DR integrated navigation system using distance between wheels of the vehicle and a gyroscope. In order to show the validity of the proposed vision/DR integrated navigation system, experiments were performed for a trajectory of a mobile robot. Experimental results show that the proposed vision/DR integrated navigation system gives better navigation performance than a vision/DR integrated navigation system using only distance between wheels of the vehicle.
The purpose of this paper is to design a DVL-RPM based VKF (Velocity Kalman Filter) design for a performance improvement underwater integrated navigation system. The proposed approach relies on a VKF, augmented by a altitude from Echo-sounder based switching architecture to yield robust performance, even when DVL (Doppler Velocity Log) exceeds the measurement range and the measured value is unable to be valid. The proposed approach relies on two parts: 1) Indirect feedback navigation Kalman filter design, 2) VKF design. To evaluate proposed method, we compare the results of the VKF aided navigation system with simulation result from a PINS (Pure Inertial Navigation System) and conventional INS-DVL method. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the underwater navigation system assisted by the additional DVL-RPM based VKF in underwater environment.
As GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) is used in various filed, many countries establish GNSS system independently. But GNSS system has the limitation of accuracy and stability in stand-alone mode, because this system has error elements which are ionospheric delay, tropospheric delay, orbit ephemeris error, satellite clock error, and etc. For overcome of accuracy limitation, the DGPS(Differential GPS) and RTK(Real-Time Kinematic) systems are proposed. These systems perform relative positioning using the reference and user receivers. ETRI(Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) is developing precision navigation system in point of extension of GNSS usage. The precision navigation system is for providing the precision navigation solution to common users. If this technology is developed, GNSS system can be used in the fields which require precision positioning and control. In this paper, we introduce the precision navigation system and perform design and algorithm verification.
It is known that many insects and animals can return to their nest after exploration, with their own specific homing mechanisms. Their homing navigation methods have been applied to the robotic navigation. In this paper, we test the sector-based image matching method motivated by the honeybee's landmark navigation behaviour. Here, our robotic approach uses the reference compass to identify the current head direction and the relative angular position of landmarks for the navigation. The robot shows desirable homing behaviors if the robot is surrounded by landmarks. The result of robot experiment is in good agreement with that of simulation.
Quick evaluations of two in-plane orbit maneuvers using small see of real-time CPS navigation solutions were peformed lot the KOMPSAT-1 spacecraft operation. Real-time GPS navigation solutions of the KOMPSAT-1 were collected during the Korean Ground Station(KGS) pass. Only a few sets of position and velocity data after completion of the thruster firing were used for the quick maneuver evaluations. The results were used for antenna pointing data predictions for the next station contact. Normal orbit maneuver evaluations using large see of playback GPS navigation solutions were also performed and the result were compared with the quick evaluation results.

This paper considers a fault accommodation problem for inertial navigation systems (INS) that have redundant inertial sensors such as gyroscopes and accelerometers. It is wellknown that the more sensors are used, the smaller the navigation error of INS is, which means that the error covariance of the position estimate becomes less. Thus, when it is decided that double faults occur in the inertial sensors due to fault detection and isolation (FDI), it is necessary to decide whether the faulty sensors should be excluded or not. A new accommodation rule for double faults is proposed based on the error covariance of triad-solution of redundant inertial sensors, which is related to the navigation accuracy of INS. The proposed accommodation rule provides decision rules to determine which sensors should be excluded among faulty sensors. Monte Carlo simulation is performed for dodecahedron configuration, in which case the proposed accommodation rule can be drawn in the decision space of the two-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system.
