Stock identification of minor carp, Cirrhinus reba, Hamilton 1822 through landmark-based morphometric and meristic variations

  • Background: Wild fish populations stock is continuously diminishing in the Indo-Ganges river basin, and the population status of most fishes is unidentified. The identification of the population status and the conservation of commercially important and endemic wild fish populations in this region are crucial for the management. The aim of this paper was to identify the population status of Cirrhinus reba, a promising aquaculture but vulnerable species in the Indo-Ganges river basin in Bangladesh. Methods: C. reba samples were collected from four isolated populations of the Brahmaputra (n = 30), the Padma (33), the Karatoya (31), and the Jamuna Rivers (30) in Bangladesh, and the population status was evaluated using morphometric and landmark comparisons. Data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis test, univariate analysis, discriminant function analysis, and the formation of a dendrogram. Results: Three meristic characters (Pectoral fin rays, caudal fin rays, scale in lateral lines), four morphometric characters (head length, pre-orbital length, post-orbital length, maximum body depth), and truss measurement (4-7) were significantly different among the stocks. The step-wise discriminant function analysis retained 15 variables from morphometric and landmark measurements that significantly differentiated the populations based on the constructed DFI and DFII. Discriminate function analysis also showed that 91.2% of the original groups were classified into their correct samples. The cluster analysis of Euclidean distances placed the Jamuna population in one cluster and the Brahmaputra, the Padma, and the Karatoya populations in the second one. Conclusion : Morphological differences among the stock were probably due to different ancestral origin. This is the first report about population status of C. reba in their natural habitat of the Indian subcontinent. Further genetic studies and the evaluation of environmental impact on C. reba populations in Bangladesh are suggested to support our findings.

  • Position estimation is one of the most important functions for the mobile robot navigating in the unstructured environment. Most of previous localization schemes estimate current position and pose of mobile robot by applying various localization algorithms with the information obtained from sensors which are set on the mobile robot, or by recognizing an artificial landmark attached on the wall, or objects of the environment as natural landmark in the indoor environment. Several drawbacks about them have been brought up. To compensate the drawbacks, a new localization method that estimates the absolute position of the mobile robot by using a fixed camera on the ceiling in the corridor is proposed. And also, it can improve the success rate for position estimation using the proposed method, which calculates the real size of an object. This scheme is not a relative localization, which decreases the position error through algorithms with noisy sensor data, but a kind of absolute localization. The effectiveness of the proposed localization scheme is demonstrated through the experiments.

  • This paper describes a procedure of the map-based localization for mobile robots by using a sensor fusion technique in structured environments. A combination of various sensors with different characteristics and limited sensibility has advantages in view of complementariness and cooperation to obtain better information on the environment. In this paper, for robust self-localization of a mobile robot with a monocular camera and a laser structured light sensor, environment information acquired from two sensors is combined and fused by a Bayesian sensor fusion technique based on the probabilistic reliability function of each sensor predefined through experiments. For the self-localization using the monocular vision, the robot utilizes image features consisting of vertical edge lines from input camera images, and they are used as natural landmark points in self-localization process. However, in case of using the laser structured light sensor, it utilizes geometrical features composed of corners and planes as natural landmark shapes during this process, which are extracted from range data at a constant height from the navigation floor. Although only each feature group of them is sometimes useful to localize mobile robots, all features from the two sensors are simultaneously used and fused in term of information for reliable localization under various environment conditions. To verify the advantage of using multi-sensor fusion, a series of experiments are performed, and experimental results are discussed in detail.

Improved Anatomical Landmark Detection Using Attention Modules and Geometric Data Augmentation in X-ray Images (어텐션 모듈과 기하학적 데이터 증강을 통한 X-ray 영상 내 해부학적 랜드마크 검출 성능 향상)

  • Recently, deep learning-based automated systems for identifying and detecting landmarks have been proposed. In order to train such a deep learning-based model without overfitting, a large amount of image and labeling data is required. Conventionally, an experienced reader manually identifies and labels landmarks in a patient's image. However, such measurement is not only expensive, but also has poor reproducibility, so the need for an automated labeling method has been raised. In addition, in the X-ray image, since various human tissues on the path through which the photons pass are displayed, it is difficult to identify the landmark compared to a general natural image or a 3D image modality image. In this study, we propose a geometric data augmentation technique that enables the generation of a large amount of labeling data in X-ray images. In addition, the optimal attention mechanism for landmark detection was presented through the implementation and application of various attention techniques to improve the detection performance of 16 major landmarks in the skull. Finally, among the major cranial landmarks, markers that ensure stable detection are derived, and these markers are expected to have high clinical application potential.

  • This paper presents an algorithm in which a feature map is built and localization of a mobile robot is carried out for indoor environments. The algorithm proposes an approach which extracts scale-invariant features of natural landmarks from a pair of stereo images. The feature map is built using these features and updated by merging new landmarks into the map and removing transient landmarks over time. And the position of the robot in the map is estimated by comparing with the map in a database by means of an Extended Kalman filter. This algorithm is implemented and tested using a Pioneer 2-DXE and preliminary results are presented in this paper.

  • This study aims to suggest the place branding methods applicable for regenerated idle industrial facilities. The place branding methods were analyzed by separating into hard branding methods and soft branding methods, and the results of the study are as follows: As for the hard branding methods, the exterior, outer wall materials and interior materials of the building and industrial equipment are preserved to revive the historicity of the building. In order to organize a differentiated space, it is important to create the convenience space such as cafes, experience space, lounge, and restaurants as well as the space for the operation of the programs. The building itself is utilized as a landmark or the iconic facility such as the winding tower or chimney is utilized as a landmark. As the methods of introducing natural elements, there is a need to create the resting space, law area and water space where trees can be planted and landscape can be viewed, and the development of tourism products utilizing the peripheral resources and the link of programs are also important. As for the soft branding methods, the provision of programs where a variety of art genres and the sense of place are reflected and the programs linked to the region is needed, and the story of place can be shared by storytelling utilizing the work and programs reflecting the sense of place. In addition, the content development and physical improvement of facilities reflecting the needs of visitors and the establishment of the organic collaboration system of a variety of subjects are needed for the sustainability of place.

A Facial Morphing Method Using Delaunay Triangle of Facial Landmarks (얼굴 랜드마크의 들로네 삼각망을 이용한 얼굴 모핑 기법)

  • Face morphing, one of the most powerful image processing techniques that are often used in image processing and computer graphic fields, as it is a technique to change the image progressively and naturally from the original image to the target image. In this paper, we propose a method to generate Delaunay triangles using the facial landmark vertices generated by the Dlib face landmark detector and to implement morphing through warping and cross dissolving of Delaunay triangles between the original image and the target image. In this paper, we generate vertex points for face not manually but automatically, which is the major feature of the face such as eye, eyebrow, nose, and mouth, and is used to generate Delaunay triangles automatically which is the main characteristic of our face morphing method. Simulations show that we can add vertices manually and get more natural morphing results.

  • The theory of Place is based on the relations of human being, environment and architecture in the view of the existentialism and phenomenology. A place has two respects, the one is Natural place as landscape and the other is Man-made place as city, public building , private house. These properties of place are appeared through axis , directions, boundaries, centers , enclosures that are basic elements in architecture . Therefore these elements embody sense of place as orientation , identification , identity. imageability, stabilitas loci, heirarchy. And these sensually compositional elements of poace concretize district, landmark, node, path, edge that ceate a setting into work and place in architecture & interior design.

An Analysis of Architectural Plan and Environment-friendly Elements of Skyscraper (초고층 건물의 건축계획 및 친환경요소 분석)

  • [Purpose] Recently, skyscrapers have sharply increased throughout the world, including South Korea. Although a skyscraper has its own merit such as the landmark of a city, it also has various problems like massive energy consumption. This study is aimed to establish the concept of environment-friendly skyscraper and propose a plan to realize skyscraper after analyzing the architectural, facility and environmental friendly elements of skyscrapers. [Method] This study lists up skyscrapers over 40 floors and 200 meters high. Upon 10 constructed buildings, it analyzes their basic plans and the green building technologies applied to them and suggests effective and environment-friendly architectural plan. [Result] This study examined the distinctions of the layout, shape, facade, and floor plan plane of 10 skyscrapers and found out specific techniques to be used for the use plan of natural energy, plan for saving resources and reducing wastes and a plan for environmental architecture and system.

EKF-based Simultaneous Localization and Mapping of Mobile Robot using Laser Corner Pattern Matching (레이저 코너 패턴의 매칭을 이용한 이동 로봇의 EKF 기반 SLAM)

  • In this paper, we propose an extended Kalman filter(EKF)-based simultaneous localization and mapping(SLAM) method using laser corner pattern matching for mobile robots. SLAM is one of the most important problems of mobile robot. However, existing method has the disadvantage of increasing the computation time, depending on the number of landmarks. To improve computation time, we produce the corner pattern using classified and detected corner points. After producing the corner patterns, it is estimated that mobile robot's global position by matching them. The estimated position is used as measurement model in the EKF. To evaluated proposed method, we preformed the experiments in the indoor environments. Experimental results of proposed method are shown to maintain an accuracy and decrease the computation time.
