Natural frequencies of a cryogenic fuel tank of LNG vehicle were computed to check the safety related to the resonances, and tests were performed to confirm the vibrational durability of a cryogenic fuel tank. There were 3 tests. The first test started at excitation frequency of 31.9Hz, and the test was performed reducing the excitation frequencies. Failure took place at 22.1Hz. The second test was performed with the frequencies to be increased. At 12.7 Hz, failure took place and nitrogen gas was exhausted. In the third test, the excitation frequencies were continuously changed, and the vibration port was failed in the range between 8 Hz and 19.3 Hz. Detailed research on the failed parts of the tank in this study is recommended to enhance the safety of the cryogenic fuel tanks of LNG vehicles.

Regulation of gastrointestinal hormones have been reported in animal models for constipation undergoing laxative therapy when administered herbal products. We undertook to investigate whether the laxative activity of gallotannin-enriched extracts isolated from Galla Rhois (GEGR) affects the regulation of gastrointestinal hormones, by examining the concentration of four hormones and the activation of their receptors in the loperamide (Lop)-induced constipation model. Stool parameters, including number, weight and water content, were significantly recovered in the Lop+GEGR treated group, relative to the Lop+ vehicle treated group; however, food intake and water consumption were maintained at a constant level. Also, a similar recovery was detected for thickness of mucosa, muscle and flat luminal surface in the Lop+GEGR treated group. Furthermore, concentration of the four gastrointestinal hormones evaluated, namely, cholecystokinin (CCK), gastrin (GAS), somatostatin (SS) and motilin (MTL), were lower in the Lop+vehicle treated group than the No treated group, but were remarkably enhanced in the Lop+GEGR treated group. Moreover, the downstream signaling pathway of MTL and SS receptors were recovered after GEGR administration. Results of the present study therefore indicate that the laxative effects of GEGR treatment may be tightly related with the regulation of gastrointestinal hormones in the Lopinduced constipation model.
With the emergence of environmental problems caused by fine dust worldwide, LNG, which is cheaper and less pollution than diesel, is attracting attention as the next generation energy of automobiles and is expanding its supply. However, it is difficult to operate smoothly due to the lack of infrastructure for LNG charging stations in Korea and the limited size of containers that can be installed according to regulations. In Korea, research and development on the contents of containers for the smooth operation of natural gas vehicles are underway, but there is a problem that the container directly receives the impact of the vehicle collision and explodes, causing a major disaster. Therefore, in this study, the safety of the container was verified by deriving the strain and stress values through ANSYS Explicit Dynamics analysis. As a result, a maximum stress of 565.37MPa occurred in the container, and it is expected that plastic deformation will occur as it exceeds the yield stress of STS304 used as a material for the container, which is beyond 505MPa. When an impact caused by a collision between a vehicle and a container is applied, it is considered necessary to design a support or reinforcement because the container may be damaged or defective.

Nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) is an important trace gas in the atmosphere not only because of its large global warming potential (GWP) but also because of the role in the ozone depletion in the stratosphere. It has been known that soil is the largest natural source of $N_2O$ in global emission. However, anthropogenic sources contributing from industrial section is likely to increase with rising the energy consumption, and transportation as well. In this study, a total of 32 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles (ranging from small to large engine's displacement and also ranging from aged catalyst to new catalyst) were tested on the chassis dynamometer system in order to elucidate the characteristics of $N_2O$ emission from automobiles under different driving modes. Ten different driving modes developed by NIER were adapted for the test. The results show that the $N_2O$ emission decreases logarithmically with increase of vehicle speed over the all test vehicles ($N_2O$) emission = -0.062 Ln (vehicle speed) + $0.289,\;r^2=0.97$). It revealed that the larger engine's displacement, the more $N_2O$ emission were recorded. The correlation between $N_2O$ emission and catalyst aging was examined. It found that the vehicles with aged catalyst (odometer record more than 8,0000km) emit more $N_2O$ than those with new catalyst. Average $N_2O$ emission was $0.086{\pm}0.095\;N_2O-g/km$ (number of samples=210) for the all test vehicles over the test driving modes.

The objective of this paper is to get excitation forces of the engine. A powertrain geometry model is produced by CATIA and its FE model is made by MSC/Patran. A vibration mode analysis which makes us know the natural frequency and mode shape and a running mode analysis which measures the mode shape as a relative displacement about one reference point by measuring the acceleration of each bracket to take a place at the running vehicle are experimentally implemented. After getting a satisfied MAC value by doing a correlation about a measured mode analysis value and analyzed value through MSC/Nastran software, all components are assembled through MSC/ADAMS software which is a dynamic analysis tool. We can predict the vibration of brackets which is the last points to occur the force of the engine combustion by analyzing the combustion force produced by engine mechanism.
A diesel truck of 1 ton is re-powered by a gasoline engine and the fuelling system of gasoline engine modified to gasoline/CNG bi fuel system. The engine characteristics such as fuel economy and power are evaluated by driving rest, sloping test and dynamometer. The driving test prove the driving cost is saved by 55% and the maximum speed is raised by 13%, which is mainly due to the higher calorific value of CNG. The sloping test is done on the road of which slope is 15%. The truck shows the mean velocity of 88km/h, which means that a re-powered truck is working fine. The BHP are measured by dynamometer. The power and torque produced by a re-powered truck are reduced by 13% and 14% respectively from the power of gasoline engine. The BHP reduction is one of main problems which one has to solve in near future.
This investigation decribes the effect of the combustion and emission characteristics of HCNG engine according to the high purity hydrogen contents. The HCNG fuel was made by the mixture with a high purity hydrogen ($H_2$) and a natural gas. The test vehicle was applied to the bi-fuel (Gasoline and CNG) system and this system was modified from the fuel supply and fuel tank. In addition, the three premixed HCNG fuels with mixed rate of 10, 20 and 30% of hydrogen were used to maintain the safety. In order to analyze the combustion characteristics of HCNG and CNG, the fuel was injected in the combustor with constant volume. The exhaust emission from light duty vehicle with bi-fuel system was analyzed by a chassis dynamometer and emission analyzer. From these results, the reduction rate of NOx emission increased in the HCNG fuel and emission amount of THC and CO shows a similar level with CNG fuel. This study can be utilized the basic data for the development of a new business plans related with HCNG engines.
Carbon emissions from fuel consumption have been pointed by scientists as the cause of global warming. In particular, fossil fuels are known to emit more carbon when burned than other types of fuels. In this regard, International Maritime Organization has announced a regulation plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, recently, Liquefied Natural Gas propulsion ships are responding to such carbon reduction regulation. However, from a long-term perspective, it is necessary to use carbon-free fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia. Nitrogen oxides might be generated during ammonia combustion. There is a possibility that incompletely burned ammonia is discharged. Therefore, rather than being used as a direct fuel, Ammonia is only used to reduce NOX such as urea solution in diesel vehicle Selective Catalyst Reduction. Currently, LPG vehicle fuel feed system studies have evaluated the durability of combustion injectors and fuel tanks in ammonia environment. However, few studies have been conducted to apply ammonia as a ship fuel. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate corrosion damage that might occur when ammonia is used as a propulsion fuel on ships.

The major source of harmful air pollutants in Korea have been shifted as economy grows. Particulate matter(PM) and Sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) emitted from industries and coal-fired domestic sectors were important pollutants in 1970's and later industrializing period of Korea. Then the characteristic of pollution was changed into so-called "developed country type pollution". Vehicles have been responsible for significant amount of Nitric oxide ($NO_x$) pollution and consequent Ozone formation in urban area since 1990's. Variety of control measures have been introduced to deal with the vehicle emissions in Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA). Emission control technologies have successfully reduced pollutants from vehicles. Three-way catalyst for vehicles fueled by gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), for example, has achieved large amount of pollutants. Compressed natural gas (CNG) urban bus have penetrated existing diesel bus market and reduces PM and $NO_x$ emissions in many Korean cities. However, diesel vehicles are still reaming as a critical emission source of urban area. Diesel vehicles gain more popularity than ever because of their better fuel efficiency and driving power. Unfortunately, it is widely known that the pollutant emissions of diesel vehicles are much larger than those of gasoline and LPG vehicles. In this note, we briefly introduce the trends of emission control strategies which are accomplished by automotive industries for about last ten years. Emission regulation, cleaner fuel, diesel particulate filter (DPF) and other measures are discussed from technical as well as legislative perspectives.

In the previous study, several problems were observed in a NG conversion vehicle, which were fail of air-fuel ratio closed loop control, aggravated fuel economy, increased harmful emission and declined roadability. It was provisionally supposed that the mismatch of injection system with the engine caused these performance deterioration. In this context, the characteristics of fuel injection system of commercial conversion kit for NG were investigated experimentally varying the engine speed, fuel rail pressure and volume. The results are as follows; The injection quantity decreases as the engine speed increases due to the extremely small rail volume of the presenting system and flow rate of No. 2 injector are always lower than that of the other ones regardless of the speed under the dynamic operation condition. Furthermore the existing system does not meet the required fuel quantity for the normal engine operation over 3000 RPM. On the other hands, the large rail volume systems ease and/or eliminate the difference of injection quantity between the injectors according to the speed variation, however, these systems decrease injection flow rate and still cannot supply sufficient fuel. Finally, suitable combination of the higher rail pressure and the larger rail volume might be a solution about these problems.
