Natural Frequency of Two Rectangular Plates Coupled with Fluid (유체로 연성된 두 사각평판의 고유진동수)

  • An analytical study is presented on the hydroelastic vibration of two rectangular identical plates coupled with a bounded fluid by using the finite Fourier series expansion method. It is observed that the two contrastive modes, the so called the out-of-phase and in-phase modes. All natural frequency of the in-phase modes can be predicted well by the combination of the beam modes in the air, but the natural frequency of the out-of-phase mode cannot be estimated precisely.   • An analytical method is presented for predicting the effect of a local deviation in the form of a concentrated mass along a radial line on the free bending vibration characteristics of a nearly axisymmetric circular plate. The approach is based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method and the expression of local deviation of the concentrated radial mass as the variation of heaviside unit step function. The effects of the concentrated mass on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the plate are predicted with a proposed nondimensional mass parameter.

  • Buckling and free vibration analysis of sandwich micro plate (SMP) integrated with piezoelectric layers embedded in orthotropic Pasternak are investigated in this paper. The refined Zigzag theory (RZT) is taken into consideration to model the SMP. Four different types of functionally graded (FG) distribution through the thickness of the SMP core layer which is reinforced with single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are considered. The modified couple stress theory (MCST) is employed to capture the effects of small scale effects. The sandwich structure is exposed to a two dimensional magnetic field and also, piezoelectric layers are subjected to external applied voltages. In order to obtain governing equation, energy method as well as Hamilton's principle is applied. Based on an analytical solution the critical buckling loads and natural frequency are obtained. The effects of volume fraction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), different distributions of CNTs, foundation stiffness parameters, magnetic and electric fields, small scale parameter and the thickness of piezoelectric layers on the both critical buckling loads and natural frequency of the SMP are examined. The obtained results demonstrate that the effects of volume fraction of CNTs play an important role in analyzing buckling and free vibration behavior of the SMP. Furthermore, the effects of magnetic and electric fields are remarkable on the mechanical responses of the system and cannot be neglected.

  • This paper describes the continuing effort to analysis and design on dynamic and electrical behavior of gamma-type free piston Stirling engine/generator with dual-opposed linear generator for domestic micro-CHP (Combined Heat and Power) system. The double acting Stirling engine/generator has one displacer and two power piston which are supported by flexure springs. Two power pistons oscillate with symmetric sinusoidal displacement and are connected with moving magnet type linear generators for power generation. To operate Stirling engine/generator, combustion heat of natural gas is supplied to hot-end and heat is rejected from cold-end by cooling water. The temperature difference across the displacer induces the oscillating motion, and it can be explained with mass-spring vibration system. The purpose of this paper is to describe the design process of linear generator for the double acting free-piston Stirling engine.

  • This paper describes generating efficiency characteristics of the double acting Stirling engine/generator for domestic small-scale CHP (Combined Heat and Power) system. In small distributed generation applications, Stirling engine has competition from fuel cell, microturbine and etc. In order to be economical in the applications, a long life with minimum maintenance is generally required. Free piston Stirling engine (FPSE) has no crank and rotating parts to generate lateral forces and require lubrication. Double acting Stirling engine/generator has one displacer and two power piston which are supported by flexure springs. Two power pistons oscillate with symmetric displacement and are connected with moving magnet type linear generators for power generation from PV work. In experiments, 1 kW class double acting free piston Stirling engine/generator is fabricated and tested. Heat is supplied to hot end of engine by the combustion of natural gas and converted to electric power by linear generators which are assembled with power pistons. The electric parameters such as voltage, current and phase are measured with for variable flow rate of fuel gas. Especially, generating efficiency of FPSE is measured with three different measurement methods. Generating efficiency of the double acting Stirling engine/alternator is about 24%.

A Study of the Oxyhydroxide Presence at the Earth Core (지구 핵에 수산화물의 존재에 관한 연구)

  • Earth outer core is composed of iron mainly with some diluent elements, which account for the observed ca. 10% density deficit compared to the pure iron. Among candidates as the light diluents, hydrogen and oxygen were selected, and the thermodynamic stability of the following reaction was calculated; hematite + hydrogen $\to$ goethite + iron. At ambient conditions, Gibb's free energy of this reaction is 12.62 kJ/mol. On increasing pressure at room temperature, it decreases to zero at 0.068 GPa. This energy decreases at constant rate down to 200 GPa, which shows -208.26 kJ/mol at that pressure. From these results, this chemical reaction prefers the reduction environment forming the iron element and iron oxyhydroxide, so possible presence of iron oxyhydroxide with iron at proto-core can not be ruled out.

  • In solid reaction of the eqimolecular mixture of $BaCO_3$ and $TiO_2$, $CO_2$ generates by the following reaction ; $BaCO_3 + TiO_2\longrightarrow$ $BaTiO_3 + CO_2$ The solid reaction is studied as the kinetics of decomposition reaction with DTA-TG. The results are as follows. 1. $BaCO_3$ with is coexisted with $TiO_2$ decompose at lower temperature than pure $BaCO_3$. The reason is decreasing free eneragy of products. 2. Carter's equation is more important than Jander's equation in solid reaction of $BaCO_3$ decomposi-tion. The activation energy obtained by Carte r's equation is 42.8 Kcal/mol.

  • The majority of electric power in the domestic manned islands with off-grid power system is supplied by the diesel generators. However, in the case of off-grid islands the fuel cost is more expensive to inland areas and difficult to transport them to islands. So the development of renewable energy system using natural resource have been recently introduced. But renewable energy that depend on the natural environment, it is necessary to organized the hybrid system with existing diesel engine because the energy is difficult to maintain stable electric power. This paper presents the results of a feasibility study of hybrid system with energy storage system such as wind, solar, battery and diesel engine. The study included off-grid island as the Seogeochado islands located in Jeolanamdo Province. And, the paper proposed a optimal capacity of hybrid system configuration to maintain carbon free with minimum investment cost. the analysis of economic adaptability performed by HOMER program.

  • This study is concerned with the free vibration analysis of an inextensible uniform rope with a spring-mass system at the tip. The rope is hanged vertically in a gravitational field. This problem is related to the free vibration of an elevator rope connected to an elevator cage. The equation of motion and the corresponding boundary conditions are derived by using the Hamilton's principle. The general solution of the governing equation of motion is expressed in terms of Bessel functions. The characteristic equation was derived by applying the boundary conditions. The characteristic values which are in fact non-dimensionalized natural frequencies were obtained numerically. The effects of mass and spring constant were investigated. The numerical results show how the tip mass and spring affect the natural frequencies of the rope.

  • This study deals with the free vibration of a circular plate in contact with a fluid; submerged in fluid, beneath fluid or on fluid. An analytical method based on the finite Fourier-Bessel series expansion and Rayleigh-Ritz method is suggested. The proposed method is verified by the finite element analysis using commercial program with a good accuracy. The normalized natural frequencies are obtained in order to estimate the relative added mass effect of fluid on each vibration mode of the plate. Also, the location of plate coupled with fluid and the cases of free and bounded fluid surface are studied for the effect on the vibration characteristics.
