When cantilever beams rotate, their bending stiffnesses change due to the stretching caused by centrifugal inertia forces. Such phenomena result in variations of natural frequencies and mode shapes associated with constant speed rotational motions of the beams. These variations are important in many practical applications such as helicopter blades, turbomachines, and space structures. This paper presents the formulation of a set of linear equations governing the flapwise bending vibration of rotating cantilever beams. These equations can be used to provide accurate predictions of the variations of natural frequencies and mode shapes due to rotation.

Natural frequency variations in a vehicle-bridge interaction system is examined. The interaction system is designed for a simple beam subject to a moving vehicle. The equation of motion for the system is derived under the quarter-car condition, and numerical simulation is performed. Frequency amplification ratio (FAR) is defined as a ratio between the initial and the varying natural frequency of the system; a discontinuity in the FAR implies a resonance condition. Analysis is mainly focused on patterns, frequency variation characteristics, and discontinuity points of the FAR under the vehicle mass and tire stiffness variations. The result reveals that the interactions between the system affects the natural frequency of both the vehicle and the bridge in similar frequency regions that can be visually identified at the middle of the span using the FAR.

Precise estimation of a structure's dynamic characteristics is indispensable for ensuring stable dynamic responses during lifetime especially for the structures which can experience resonance such as railway bridges. In this paper, the results of forced vibration tests of different excitation methods (vibration exciter and impact hammer) are compared to examine the differences and the cause of differences of extracted natural frequencies. Consequently a natural frequency modification method is suggested to eliminate effects of non-structural disturbance factors. Also, sequential forced vibration tests are performed before and after track construction according to the construction stage of a railway bridge, and the variation of natural frequencies are examined. Effect of added mass of vibration exciter and variation of support condition due to the level of excitation force are concluded as the major cause of natural frequency differences. Thus eliminating these effects can enhance the reliability of the extracted natural frequencies. Construction of track affects not only the mass of structure but also the stiffness of the structure. Also, the amount of increase in stiffness varies according to the level of structural deflection. Therefore, reasonable estimation of the level of structural response during operation is important for precise natural frequency calculation at design phase.

An analytical method for evaluating the free vibration of two circular plates coupled with water was developed by assuming the clamped boundary condition of the plates and an ideal fluid. The method was applied to analyze the transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, and the results were compared to those obtained by the finite element method (FEM) using a commercial ANSYS 5.2 software. It was found that the theoretical results can predict well the coupled natural frequencies for all in-phase modes with good accuracy. However, the analytical method shows some discrepancies compared with FEM analysis in predicting the coupled natural frequency of the out-of-phase modes, except when m = 0, the zero nodal circle. The analytical method also applied to evaluate the characteristics of the natural frequency with respect to the major parametric variation in mode numbers and distance between the circular plates.
The natural frequencies of a rectangular plate on non-homogeneous elastic foundations were obtained by using the Ritz method and Galerkin method. The results of both methods using the different type of trial functions were also compared. Furthermore, the effects of the variation of boundary conditions, the stiffness of the foundation spring, the dimension ratio of the plate were investigated. As a result, the Galerkin method can be used to obtain the accurate solution and can be effectively used to design the foundation bed.

This paper provides the resuIts on the evaluation of dynamic characteristics of the optimized shells. Five fundamental technologies such as computer-aided geometric design, automatic mesh generation, shell finite element, design sensitivity analysis and shell optimization process, are used for shell optimization maximizing the fundamental natural frequency. A dome shell is adopted for the shell shape optimization and the dynamic characteristic of the optimized shell such as the variation of natural frequencies is then investigated. From the investigation, more constraint functions related to shell natural frequencies is necessarily required to effectively control dynamic characteristics of the optimized shells.
This study was carried out to develop a system and methodology to simulate the engine load variation occuring during agricultural field operations for a laboratory engine test. The system consisted of an electric dynamometer, an Apple II microcomputer, and a data acquisition and control system. Several pieces of instruments were utilized to measure various engine performance data. Both engine torque and engine speed were fully controlled by a computer program. The dynamic characteristics of the system were analyzed through a series of tests and the limitations on the load simulation test were presented. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. Engine speed and toque were controlled by a computer program. The use of a stepping motor and reduction gears enabled engine speed be controlled within 1 rpm. 2. The natural frequency of the dynamometer-engine system was found to be around 5 Hz, at which the load simulation would be impossible because of resonance. 3. For the harmonic inputs with the frequencies above the natural frequency, the signal attenuated too much and therefore the load simulation was impossible. 4. The step response of the system showed an overshoot of 24.5 percent and the settling time for 5 percent criterion was around 3 seconds. 5. When actual field test data are utilized for load simulation, a low-pass filter should be included to attenuate the frequency components around and above the natural frequency.

The forced vibration response characteristics of a elastically restrained pipe conveying fluid with attached mass are investigated in this paper. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion is derived by using Hamilton's principle. The effects of attached mass and spring constant on the forced vibration characteristics of pipe at conveying fluid are studied. The forced deflection response of pipe with attached mass due to the variation of fluid velocity is also presented. The deflection response is the mid-span deflection of the pipe. The dimensionless forcing frequency is the range from 0 to 16 which is the first natural frequency of the pipe.
This paper studies the effect of vibrational characteristics of the various tubes analyzed though experiment. By an experiment analysis we found out that the factor of system vibration is fluid-structure interaction of tube line. In fluid-filled tube system we study on the influence that the natural frequency of system and the frequency of wave motion produce upon through three experiments. Three experiments are modal test on each tube, FRF in continuous system, and vibrating tests when the system is driving on. From the results of the experimental studies, we obtained that the natural frequencies of system are very important than wave induced vibrations. and according to the variation of configuration, the frequencies are different each other. And we found that though fluid passed away through the tube, the tendency of system vibration level was similar with the mode shape at the simple system.
