A comprehensive, nonsteady state, computer simulation program for the environmental conditions in advancing tunnels (the HEADSIM simulation program) is constructed and successfully validated with heat balance amongst all heat sources, and with mass conservation amongst various airflows including the leakage air from ducts, under timedependent variations of inlet air conditions. which include sudden, diurnal and seasonal changes. Heat conduction in the wall strata and face strata is simulated with most complicated boundary conditions using the finite difference method, and the climatic conditions in roadway sections which contain air ducts, booster fan, spray cooler, compressed air pipes, cold water pipes, return water pipes, machinery and broken rock are simulated taking into account the variations of face operation and the heat storage mechanism in the strata. The limitations of simulation time steps and roadway section lengths are defined according to the stability criteria satisfying the principles of thermodynamics. Variations of heat transfer coefficients, which are newly set, and those of wetness factors are taken into account according to the variations of other parameters and the stepwise advance of the face. Newly-derived formulae are used for computing the air duct leakage and the pressure inside of the duct. A new concept of an 'imaginary duct' is introduced to simulate the climatic conditions in tunnels during holiday periods, which directly affect conditions on subsequent working days under the consideration of natural convection. A subsidiary program (the WALLSIM simulation program) is made to compute the dimensionless tunnel surface temperatures and to compare the results with those from analytical approaches, and to demonstrate the stability, convergence and accuracy of the strata heat conduction simulation, adopting the finite difference method. The WALLSIM also has wide applications, including those for the computation of age coefficients.
Heat transfer phenomena and temperature characteristics in heat storage and release process in the heat storage system using PCM(Phase Change material) were studied experimentally. The melting points of Octacosane paraffin($C_{28}H_{58}$) and sodium pyrophosphate decahydrate ($Na_4P_2O_7{\cdot}10H_2O$) used for phase change materials are $62^{\circ}C$ and $79^{\circ}C$ respectively. Experiments were performed in order to investigate temperature distributions, the heat storage quantity and the release quantity on octacosane paraffin and sodium pyrophosphate decahydrate for heat storage and release in the heat storage system. Furthermore the comparison of these characteristics between paraffin and $Na_4P_2O_7{\cdot}10H_2O$ were evaluated. In case of the paraffin, temperature slowly increased at early heat storage process by natural convection, while temperature of $Na_4P_2O_7{\cdot}10H_2O$ rapidly increased the dominant role played by conduction at early heat storage processing Also, during the heat storage and release process in case of the paraffin, it was observed that the variation of temperature of the neighborhood of wall and center in the top and bottom of the tube exhibited a great difference, however in $Na_4P_2O_7{\cdot}10H_2O$, it was observed that the variation of temperature exhibited a little difference. And heat storage quantity of each PCM of identity mass in heat storage process was shown that $Na_4P_2O_7{\cdot}10H_2O$ exhibited more by 16 percents than paraffin.

Urea-SCR system, which converts nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and water in the presence of a reducing agent, usually AdBlue urea solution, is known as one of the powerful NOx reduction systems for mobile as well as stationary applications. For its consistent and reliable operation in mobile applications, such various problems as transient injection, ammonia slip, and freezing in cold weather have to be resolved. In this work, therefore, numerical study on three-dimensional unsteady heating problems were analyzed to understand the melting and heat transfer characteristics such as urea liquid volume fraction, temperature profiles and generated natural convection behavior in urea solution by using the commercial software Fluent 6.3. After validating by comparing numerical and experimental data with pure gallium melting phenomena, numerical experiment for urea melting is conducted with three different coolant heating models named CH1, 2, and 3, respectively. Finally, it can be found that the CH3 model, in which more coolant is concentrated on the lower part of the urea tank, has relatively better melting capability than others in terms of urea quantity of $1{\ell}$ for start-up schedule.
A new semi-empirical average heat transfer correlation applicable for both laminar and turbulent film-wise condensation on a vertical surface has been presented. Re functional form of the present correlation is based on the representative existing correlations for laminar and turbulent film flows, whereas the numerical coefficients of the present correlation have been determined by the least squares method using experimental data obtained from the open literatures. In addition, the performance of the present as well as the seven existing correlations (four for laminar and three for turbulent film flow regimes) were evaluated for their accuracy and the range of application. The result shows that for laminar film filow regimes Zazuli's and the present correlations give the samllest values of mean error, whereas for turbulent film How regimes Kirkbride and Badger's and the present correlations produce the smallest values of mean error.
Heat transfer phenomena during inward freezing process of the water in a horizontal cylinder were experimentally studied. The cooling temperature of a wall more significantly affects the timewise average temperature than the initial superheating temperature of the water. In addition, it was absolved that the timewise average temperature was influenced by the initial volume ratio of the water($V_l/V_{tot}$) at the same temperature conditons. One the other hand, the freezing speed of the upper part in the water-ice interface was quickly progressed due to natural convection. Furthermore, experimental observation showed that the frozen mass fraction($M_s/M_{tot}$) was influenced by the initial volume ratio of the water($V_l/V_{tot}$). It was noted that the frozen mass fraction for each $V_l/V_{tot}$ represented by $Ste^*$ and Fo.

The article is aiming to investigate the thermal-fluidic characteristics of magnetic fluid in a cavity using GSMAC (generalized-simplified marker and cell method). The transport equations of the magnetic fluid are including the continuity equation, momentum equation and energy equation for natural convection and Maxwell equation and magnetization equation of magnetite nano-sized particles motion. In addition, the heat transfer characteristics such as temperatures and Nusselt numbers and flow characteristics such as streamlines and isotherms of the magnetic fluid were analyzed with the intensity and direction of the magnetic fields. As a result, the thermal-fluidic characteristics of the magnetic fluid in a cavity were could be controlled by the intensity and direction of the magnetic fields.
In cryogenic feeding system of turbo pump fed liquid-propulsion rocket, rise of cryogenic propellant temperature can bring into geysering in pipe or cavitation in turbo pump. In this paper, performance analysis of recirculation line which is one of the method to inhibit these phenomenon is carried out based on the configuration of KSLV-I 1st stage LOX feeding system, and parametric study to find design parameter. Diameter and re-entrance height, initial LOX temperature, ullage pressure, and natural convection heat transfer coefficient are varied to see the effects on performance. Additional He is injected into recirculation line to promote LOX recirculation. 1-dimensional analysis using network-solver, SINDA/FLUINT is carried out.
This study deals with the Benard flow of magnetic fluids in a rectangular cavity. The ratio of height to length of the cavity is 1 : 4 and the bottom of the cavity is assumed to be a heating face while the other sides are to be cooling faces. When magnetic field was equally impressed, considering the internal rotation of the elementary ferromagnetic particle, we found the following result from the numerical analysis of the GSMAC algorithm applied to the equations for the magnetic fluid. Benard flow was controled by the intensity and the direction of magnetic fields, and a critical point was appeared when the magnetic field near H=-7000 was applied.
This paper shows the temperature rise of the high voltage GIS bus bar. The temperature rise in GIS bus bar is due to Joule‘s losses in the conductor and the induced eddy current in the tank. The power losses of a bus bar calculated from the magnetic field analysis are used as the input data for the thermal analysis to predict the temperature. The required analysis is a couple-field Multiphysics that accounts for the interactions between three-dimensional AC harmonic magnetic and fluid fields. The heat transfer calculation using the fluid analysis is done by considering the natural convection and the radiation from the tank to the atmosphere. Consequently, because temperature distributions by couple-field Multiphysics (coupled magnetic-fluid) have good agreement with results of temperature rise test, the proposed couple-field Multiphysics technique is likely to be used in a conduction design of the single-pole and three pole-encapsulated bus bar in GIS..

Two kinds of alumina nanofluids are prepared by dispersing $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles m transformer oil. The thermal conductivity of the nanoparticle-oil mixtures increases with particle volume fraction and thermal conductivity of the solid particle itself. The $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles at a volume of 0.5% can increase the thermal conductivity of the transformer oil by 5.7%, and the overall heat transfer coefficient by 20%. From the natural convection test using a prototype transformer, the cooling effect of $Al_2O_3$-oil nanofluids on the heating element and oil itself is confirmed. However, excessive quantities of the surfactant have a harmful effect on viscosity, and thus it is strongly recommended to control the addition of the surfactant with great care.
