  • A 23-year-old female with aggressive periodontitis was treated using dental implants and LAVA system. The severely compromised teeth were extracted irrespective of initial conservative periodontal treatment. An implant-supported overdenture with 4 implants was fabricated for the maxilla and all-ceramic restorations for the mandible. Esthetic and functional goals were achieved with team approach involving periodontists and prosthodontists. This case report describes a treatment procedure for a generalized aggressive periodontitis patient with severe bone resorption.

  • Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease involving multiple-organs with an unknown cause. The new onset of sarcoidosis associated with therapeutic agents has been observed in 3 clinical settings; tumor necrosis factor antagonists in autoimmune rheumatologic diseases, interferon alpha with or without ribavirin in patients with chronic hepatitis C or melanoma, and antineoplastic agent-associated sarcoidosis in patients with hematologic malignancies. Here, we report a female patient who developed sarcoidosis after capecitabine treatment as an adjuvant chemotherapy for sigmoid colon cancer. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a capecitabine-induced sarcoidosis.

  • Ovarian cyst is found in 32% of necropsies in neonates, and can be visualized during gestation by ultrasonography. The clinical evolution of these Cysts is variable, but in most cases the prognosis is favorable. Ovarian torsion, bleeding, rupture, and peritonitis have been described as complications. We report a newborn girl with torsion of ovarian cyst. A cystic mass measuring $41.9{\times}31.9mm$ on left side of abdomen was identified at 32 weeks of gestation by fetal ultrasonography. Surgery was performed after birth.

  • We experienced a case of benign clear cell tumor, a very rare form of lung tumor. A forty-year-old male complained of non-specific right flank pain for 1 month prior to admission. Under the suspicion of a benign lesion, an exploratory thoracotomy was done. Since the first case was reported in 1963 by Leibow and Castleman, about 40 cases have been reported worldwide by 1993. Basically it was believed to be a benign lesion but in certain cases, it showed malignant behavior. Simple surgical excision is satisfactory to this benign lesion. But close long-term follow up is mandatory. We report this first case in Korea with the review of literature.

  • Ventriculoperitoneal(V-P) shunt has been used as a popular method for surgical treatment of hydrocephalus. But complications such as infection, mechanical obstruction and failure of flow rate sometimes make painful stress to neurosurgeons and patients. Of particular, migration of distal V-P shunt catheter to extraperitoneal space has rarely been reported. Even rarer is intracardiac migration of distal V-P shunt catheter. Authors report a such case and discuss the possible mechanism and preventive method.

  • Sarcomatoid carcinomas are biphasic tumors which have surface epithelial changes and an underlying spindle-shaped neoplastic proliferation. A 62-year-old male with hoarseness came to our hospital for evaluation. A single smooth polypoid lesion was detected on his right true vocal fold by larnygoscope. The patient was diagnosed with vocal polyp and treated with surgical excision. Pathology report of the excised specimen was compatible with sarcomatoid carcinoma. Therefore, further surgical resection was performed to secure safety margins. We report a case of a sarcomatoid carcinoma patient who was clinically diagnosed as vocal polyp.

  • A duodenal diverticulum is a frequent abnormality that is usually diagnosed incidentally. Clinical manifestations usually mimic those of highly-varied entities. Among the complications of a duodenal diverticulum, perforation is fairly rare; rupture due to blunt trauma is even rarer, and no cases have been reported in Korean literature. We report the case of a 61-year-old male patient who presented with a perforated duodenal diverticulum after a blunt trauma. We also review the existing literature.

  • A case report of replantation of extracted teeth. A 11-year-old female child patient whose right and left 1st premolars were dislocated by accident, which was treated by means of tooth replantation and obtained the following results. 1) In childhood whose development and growth were prominent prognosis were excellent. 2) The better results were drew by tooth fixation with acrylic resin after ligature the teeth with wire. 3) To treat the tooth replantation combination with canal treatment brings on the good results. 4) We can maintain the natural teeth, which could get the same function as before. According to previous results, the technique can be usd clinically.

  • A psoas compartment block has been used to provide anesthesia for orthopedic surgical procedures and analgesia for post-operative pain. Currently, this block is advocated for relieving pain in the lower extremity and pelvic area resulting from various origins. We report a case of a 69-year-old male patient who had gait abnormality with posterior pelvic and hip pain, which were both aggravated by hip extension. From the magnetic resonance image, the patient was found to have a laterally herniated intervertebral disc at the L2/3 level, which compressed the right psoas muscle. This was thought to be the origin of the pain, so a psoas compartment block was performed using 0.25% chirocaine with triamcinolone 5mg, and the pain in both the pelvis and hip were relieved.

  • Glomus tumors are small vascular tumors that are usually benign and rarely occur. They originate from glomus bodies and present in the reticular dermis. They are clinically distinguished by their small size and their ability to cause extreme pain. Most of these tumors are subungually located. However, atypical locations of the tumors sometimes cause misdiagnosis, particularly when the lesion is rarely reported. Therefore, we report a case of glomus tumor which presented with chronic abdominal pain, found in the abdominal wall that has never been reported before.
