Objective This study aims to understand the actual utilization of the oriental rehabilitation medicine center of the initial interdisciplinary medical care at the National Rehabilitation Center and to arrange proper development plans for more effective interdisciplinary medical services for future activation of interdisciplinary medical care. Method: The interdisciplinary patient status, composition of patient care, and major disease-related status were studied and analyzed for oriental rehabilitation medication relating to interdisciplinary medical care at the National Rehabilitation Center. Furthermore, the interdisciplinary status and its operating conditions were evaluated to devise a development plan for the National Rehabilitation Center. Results: As a result of the analysis of oriental rehabilitation medical care diagnosing status utilization at the National Rehabilitation Center regarding interdisciplinary medical care, the ratio of the number of those receiving interdisciplinary oriental rehabilitation medical care was less than half of the total receiving interdisciplinary care. As the major disease status from the patients of interdisciplinary care, stroke patients covered the large majority, and musculoskeletal pain patients covered the majority of outpatients. The establishment of additional oriental medication departments and assigning of interdisciplinary coordinators were presented as the goals of a development plan for the manpower and structural side of interdisciplinary medical care at the National Rehabilitation Center. On the institutional and systematic side, improvement in the interdisciplinary hierarchy and interdisciplinary model development based on the number of patients per disease was proposed. In addition, operation on ward bedding and construction of interdisciplinary EMR medical care is necessary on the medical and administration service side. Conclusion: To understand the actual utilization and to arrange development plans aimed at constructing a safe and effective interdisciplinary hierarchy for interdisciplinary medical care at the National Rehabilitation Center, patient-centered care needs to be implemented.

As society ages, the seriousness of Parkinson's disease in the elderly increases. This study was performed in order to evaluate the effect of Korean medical treatments on Parkinson's symptoms. An elderly patient was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease by clinical symptoms, which were resting tremor, pill-rolling tremor and mild bradykinesia. We treated her disease with Korean medical treatment, including herbal medicine and acupuncture therapy and excluding western medication. For the herbal medicine, Insamyangyeong-tang (人參養榮湯), Bobi-tang (補脾湯), Dokhwaljihwang-tang (獨活地黃湯) and Sipimijihwang-tang (十二味地黃湯) were primarily used. In result, the clinical symptoms, measured by unified Parkinson's disease rating scale (UPDRS) and modified Hoehn and Yahr stage (H-Y stage), of Parkinson's disease in this patient had improved after the Korean medical treatment. This study suggests that Korean medical treatments can be applicable to improve symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical effect of oriental obesity therapy on morbid obese patient with Type 2 Diabetes. Methods Two cases of Type 2 Diabetes patient was treated with herbal medicine, electrolipolysis, dietetic therapy, and aerobic exercise during the treatment period. Results The diagnostic index (Weight, BMI, PBF, WHR, FPG, HgbA1C) was improved at the end of treatment. Conclusion The improvement of the patient with Type 2 Diabetes is identified through receiving oriental medical treatments, dietetic therapy, and aerobic exercises. Further research on medical treatments and long-term maintenance of weight loss for obese patients with Type 2 Diabetes should be needed in order to standardize the treatment methodology.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to inspect recovery state of patients suffering from nausea and vomiting, who received auricular acupuncture. On the other hand, we are going to examine effects of auricular acupuncture through the study of treatises on nausea and vomiting. Nausea and vomiting are ordinary symptoms of dispositional or functional disease. The symptoms often appear without obvious disorders that can be detected on various inspection. Methods: Auricular acupuncture needling was given to the patients who had reported the symptoms of nausea and vomiting. They were hospitalized at the korean oriental internal medicine of National Medical Center from Dec. 2002 to Aug. 2003. Result: Relatively quick response of treatment was acquired after auricular acupuncture on nausea and vomiting. Conclusion: This study shows that auricular acupuncture is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting without regard to causal disease.

We had been experienced 6 cases of congenital esophagobronchial fistula which underwent surgical intervention in all cases. Of the 6 patients, 5 patients were male, one patient was female. The mean age of patients was 37.8 years old and clinical symptom free period was 27.1 years. According to Braimbridge`s classification, they were belonged to the type II[3 cases], type III[2 cases], <% type I[1 case]. Pre-operative diagnosis was available in 4 cases and the 2 cases could be diagnosed at operation field. The fistulectomy were performed in all cases, concomitant segmental resection[1 case], lobectomy[1 case], bi-lobectomy[1 case], and pneumonectomy[3 cases] were combined.

A 13-year-old spayed female Beagle dog was referred with high intraocular pressure, hyperemia, and exophthalmos of the left eye and underwent ultrasound, which revealed a mass in the ciliary body of the left eye. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging was ordered to evaluate invasion of surrounding structures and metastasis to the brain via the optic nerve. On MR imaging, a single, well-defined, smoothly marginated, triangular-to-oval-shaped mass was found. The mass was hyperintense on T1-weighted images and hypointense on T2-weighted images, similar to a previous case of ocular melanoma. The mass originated from the ciliary body and extended from the anterior chamber to the posterior chamber. Slight enhancement was observed in the mass. There was no evidence of invasion into surrounding structures or the optic nerve, and no sign of metastasis to the brain. The mass was histopathologically diagnosed as benign uveal melanocytoma.
