  • This research was initiated on the basis that public libraries should serve its role as a supplier of intellectual informations to all users and the National Library of Korea should play a role as chief supporter of collection preservation in individual libraries. Situated in such context, this study attempted to investigate several aspects of the present conditions of Korea public libraries, including the current technical ability and technicians available for materials preservation and restoration, current policies for preservation and provisions for disasters, and opinions on establishment of national library preservation and restoration center. Data was drawn from a survey with 208 public libraries in the country. As a conclusion, this study discusses such as 1) securing collection management policies for material preservations and restorations at the level of individual libraries 2) building tripartite system for efficient and methodical material preservations and restorations including public libraries, regional central libraries and the National Library of Korea.

As for measurement items, 10 factors for job satisfaction were chosen. In doing so, this researcher compared and analyzed the overall job satisfaction and work satisfaction, employment satisfaction, satisfaction with promotion system, satisfaction with work distribution, satisfaction with payment system, satisfaction with service system, satisfaction with facility environment, satisfaction with educational training, satisfaction with welfare system, and satisfaction with personal relations. The results of the analysis on job satisfaction with each factor by librarians working in different types of libraries are presented as follows. First, the overall job satisfaction value of the librarians was 3.940, which means relatively high satisfaction, and in terms of a type of library, libraries of private universities showed the highest value, and the next ones were found to be libraries of colleges, public libraries and libraries of national and public libraries. Secondly, regarding the ranking of the overall satisfaction with the selected 10 job satisfaction factors by different types of libraries, educational training was found to rank the highest, and the next ones were surveyed to be the job, the service system, the personal relations, the employment system, the work distribution, the facility environment, the payment system, the welfare system, and the promotion system.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the domain authority, number of webpages, links, and calculate the web impact factor of six public libraries of India which are fully funded by Ministry of Culture with the supervision of administration. The data for the study were collected from websites of concerned libraries with the help of a suitable search engine, Open Site Explorer. The study found that the highest domain and page authority was recorded by Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library and National Library, respectively. It also further revealed that excepting the two libraries, i.e., Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library and Delhi Public Library, the internal equity-passing links and total internal links of rest of the libraries is zero. National Library leads with maximum total links and total equity-passing links, also with the highest followed linking root domains, total linking root domains, and linking C blocks, and concludes with the web impact factor of Central Secretariat Library recording the maximum, followed by National Library and Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library.

  • Joint collection and sharing of specialized academic resources among academic libraries will not only promote academic research at universities in general but also further diversification and concentration process of academic libraries. For that both the government and universities should make concerted policy efforts to fortify individual characteristics of each academic library. This study proposes two concrete plans to build a national information management system comprising the specialized resources of academic libraries. One is to utilize the existing cooperative network of Korea Education & Research Information Service(KERIS) as a national hub for information exchange, and the other is to activate various regional or subject-based committees to encourage subject-oriented specialization of university libraries.

  • The colony education policy of Japanese Empire was, as a su n.0, ppression on national salvation education of Korean, on the one hand it was liquidation of Korean national spirit and other hand, it has the object to Japanizing Koreans through cramming Japanese language and its culture. During the Japanse occupation of Korea, the libraries had two roles, one was to press Korean and its culture and the other was to civilize Koreans for Japanizing. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of rural-mini libraries whether the former or the latter. From 1932 to The Chosun Governor- General Department (Chosun Chongdokboo) actively spread 'The Movement of Rural Development in Korea. At the same time there were many rural -mini libraries in Korean rural and fishing community. Under the colony of Japanese Empire, colony policy was itself very tough that Japanese Empire did their utmost ideas to win Korean culture over and Japanzing Korean with every possible pressures. Since rural-mini libraries were planned by the chosun Governor-General Department, however, were established by Korean themselves with the property of local education center( Hyanggyo). Therefore, rural-mini libraries were as facilities to promote rural economic development for providing Japanese with some materials which need to conduct a war, and to introduce local people to participate in civilizing activity themselves and farmers and fishermen were forced to group to be educated in Japanese language and its reading. Rural-mini libraries were, as it were, not as facilities for enlightening Korean peoples but as facilities for civilizing Koreans.

  • The purpose of this study is to present suggestions for Korean libraries for disabled person after collecting and analyzing qualitative data upon library policies of national libraries, public libraries and libraries for disabled person in European countries including Sweden, UK and France. Korean national library support center for the disabled should be independent in order to have consistent policy and ability for its execution. It should also support private libraries for the disabled in inheriting professionalism and accumulated history. Developing alternative material, integrated catalogue and professional service is required by cooperative and systematic arrangements among national and public libraries for disabled person including schools and university libraries. Also, it should be able to grow not only on the basis of internal cooperation among libraries but also with the help of external organizations like social and legal systems, organizations related with the disabled and regional self governing bodies.

  • Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) model is a linear programing based technique for measuring the relative performance of organizational units where the presence of multiple inputs and outputs makes comparison difficult. DEA model allows each unit to adopt a set of weight that shows it in the most favorable light in comparison to the other units. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of the libraries of national university in terms of relative efficiency, measured by the method of DEA. Twenty six libraries of national universities in Korea were used to analyze. The number of employees, size of library, budget, and number of books were used for input data, and the number of visitors, number of loan books, and number of books for lending and borrowing were used for output data. We found out that number of libraries with 100% relative efficiency among 26 libraries from 2005 to 2007 were only 9, 9 and 10, respectively. Moreover most of the libraries need to increase outputs and decrease inputs in order to improve efficiency.

  • As the use and expectations toward the specialized library have increased, the importance of information services in special fields has become more emphasized than before. In this context, the role and functions of the museum libraries have been more highlighted as the museum has been more frequently used and become popular. In that, this study builds a theoretical background of the information services of national museum libraries, examines their webpages, and analyzes survey results conducted for national museum libraries. By so doing, this study intends to point out issues based upon the analysis and to suggest some recommendations for more effective information services of national museum libraries.

  • Virtual and augmented reality technologies provide access to learning materials and improve the organization of a modern library's media space. This article aims to identify the significance and role of virtual and augmented reality technologies in the modern library's media space organization. Methodology. The research uses a university library case study methodology to empirically investigate virtual and augmented reality technologies. Results. Virtual and augmented reality technologies provide research and improve learning outcomes by engaging students and learners with significant interest in such technologies. Libraries offer users the opportunity to create their VR content through available software. Students can test their VR content in the libraries' labs. Libraries support access to a variety of virtual and augmented reality content. The content is accessed using "virtual reality headsets" for viewing and workstations with "authoring software and loanable 360 cameras" for creating. The library lab is a space to support students' digital creativity and research through virtual and augmented reality. There are 3D Design Labs within the libraries as a medium to large group design learning spaces with virtual reality technology. Libraries form a media space where users can create videos, podcasts, portfolios, edit media, and book tours, and students and researchers can explore different scientific knowledge. In this way, technology ensures that risks in learning are minimized as opposed to hands-on seminars and classes.
