  • In this paper, we describe the result of the test-bed on Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System connected with Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System, which was developed by Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings, KOREAIL NETWORKS, HiPlusCard and Samsung SDS. we constructed Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System on 4 downtown bus routes, 20 stations on line 1 subway, 2 stations of a train and 2 sections of the Honam highway in Gwangju and Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System in Seoul University IC Card Center. So we operated that by 480 Several staff were given a test card and asked to try it for about 6 months. This test-bed is for demonstrates the accuracy, safety and credibility of the Nation-wide Interoperability standard technology and it can be applied to all of transportation practically. When the staffs contact the card to Purchase terminal, the card performs transaction with Purchase SAM in the terminal, then transactions ara used to calculate in Settlement system and Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System. Through the test-bed, we examined this process and found unexpected problems happening during the test operation and have successfully solved them. In addition, the results of the test-bed let us know what additional improvement might be required for System. The successful run of the test-bed was verified by an evaluation of the test-bed staff and a public survey.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the opinions of hospital managers on DRG pilot study. Methods: Managers of 800 hospitals which had participated in DRG pilot study during the period 1997-1999, were requested to respond to structured self-administerd questionnaire. The questionnaire was composed with six categories: the motivation and satisfaction for the DRG pilot study, the opinions on the level of unit price, the appropriateness of DRG classification, the change of medical service quality during the pilot study, the patient's complains resulted from DRG system. and the opinions on the nation-wide application of DRG system. Results : Of the 800 subjects, 327(clinic, 210: 25 hospitals, 82 general hospitals, and 16 tertiary hospitals) completed the questionnaire, and the overall response rate was 41%, 121 hospitals(27%) answered that they participated in DRG pilot study because of convenience of claims and 118 hospitals(35%) dissatisfied with DRG system. 251 hospitals(85%) thought that the level of unit price under the DRG system was same as or lower than that of fee-for service. 297 hospitals(92%) responded that DRG classification should be modified and 137 hospitals(47%) experienced deterioration of medical service quality during the DRG pilot study. The 116 hospitals(35%) experienced the patient's complains resulted from DRG system. The 85 hospitals(88%) didn't want nation-wide application of DRG system. Conclusion: Most of the responded managers seemed to have negative opinions on DRG pilot study, even though they had been participated voluntarily. Further studies and extensive evaluations of DRG reimbursement system are needed before nation-wide application.

  • In order to make clear the relationship between sample design and sample survey in community, it was conducted research on sample design for National Nutrition Survey in 1983. In this paper it was tried to analize the data based on The Report of a Settled Population, 1981 conducted by National Bureau of Statistics Economic Planning Board. The sample was basically using stratified two-stage sampling with systematic sampling of Ban or Li as administrative unit. The population represents the whole nation excluding Jeju-do because of budget. The selection of sampling unit and sampling procedure was as follows. 1) Stratify the nation-wide area in 20 sections according to administrative districts. 2) Determine the sample size in each section according to equal proportional rate (1 / 8040) and to about 1,000 households in the sample. 3) Select the 25 sampling units by section according to households proportion. 4) Select the 10 households at random from each Ban or Li according to equal probability proportion as the final sampling unit. Using the procedure, it was sampled 1,000 households for National Nutrition Survey in 1983.

  • Recognizing the need for the nation-wide reading initiative to promote reading activities of the whole nation, this study was conducted to provide the foundation for planning the National Year of Reading in Korea. It reviewed the details on the administration, budget, cooperation, promotion, program and implementation strategy of the National Year of Reading in the U. K., Japan, and Australia. To investigate the nation's perception of reading and the nation-wide reading initiative, a focus group interview with 13 professionals in reading and a survey partaken by 719 citizens were conducted. This study provides the foundation for establishing the implementation strategy for the National Year of Reading by examining people's perception and the specific requirements for implementing the initiative.

  • A nutrition survey of elementary school children in urban areas was undertaken in December of 1986, to investigate nutritional status in relation to school lunch programs. A total of 284 children in the grades from the 4th to the 6th of Myongsudai elementary school, consisting of three groups ; 1) children taking school lunch every day, 2) children taking school lunch intermittently, 3) children not taking at all, were studied. The group of children taking school lunch every day showed higher values of dietary intake, anthropometric measurements and biochemical findings, compared to those of the other groups, in general. These data underscore the necessity of nation wide school lunch programs for whole school children of Korea.

  • The existing survey of the actual use relevant transportation, implemented in order to reflect transportation policy, has been performed for users by researcher directly, or thereby analysing the data of particular date-oriented of transportation card business's content so that such method have many problems. To solve such problem, we developed a new system, Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System which include several functions of effective collecting of transportation use-data created from the Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System, accurate counting and easy inquiry. This system consists of Link-server to collect and count for transportation use-data, DB-server to store for this data and Inquiry terminal to search for the information needed. To verify for developed this system, we run test-bed by connection between this system and the Nation-wide Interoperable Transportation System developed by the KOREA Financial Telecommunications & Clearings, the KORAIL NETWORKS and the HiPlusCard. And through result of test-bed, we proved that Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System practically works well. Thus we can look for systematic reflect of reliable information.

  • The imputation of monetary value of women's contribution to the informal economy for inclusion in satellite accounts to the formal System of National Accounts has been attempted along many methods. This is bases on official laborforce statistics and time-use survey. In this statistical system, household work is not an economic activity(or productive labor). Also, the clssification of activities involved in household work is different from that of sampling survey relating evaluation. The measurement of women's unpaid work is one of the important tasks for the improvement of women's status and the establishment of a development policy. To measure unpaid work in the economic terms, we should take following measures; 1) develop satellite or other official accouts to measure unpaid work outside national accounts. 2) conduct a nation-wide time-use survey to measure the unpaid work. 3) develp a proper classificaition of activities for time-use statistics. 4) reexamine the minimum time criterion. 5) determine a proper method of valuing along the law system.
