Narratives arouse diverse and rich affective responses to recipients, and this is one of the reasons why narratives are universal and popular. Computational studies on narratives have established a formal model or system of the affective response based on the theory in psychology or media research, and have analyzed or generated a narrative that can evoke a specific affective response. In this paper, we propose a new computational model that can detect the affective response expected to appear in the narrative based on the narrative agent's knowledge. First, we designed a narrative representation model that can elaborately express the event structure and the agent's knowledge as well. Additionally, an analysis method was proposed to detect the three affective responses and the related situational information. Then, we validated the model through a case study about an actual movie narrative. Through the case study, we confirmed that the model captures the affective responses of the audience. The proposed model can be effectively used for the narrative analysis and the creation that must consider the affective responses of the recipient.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the development of preschoolers'narrative competence. The subject were 60 preschoolers aged 3 through 5 years who were enrolled in the day care center All the subjects were asked to produce a new story. All the story children toad were recorded on audiotape. The data were analyzed Qualitatively and quantitatively using content analysis and the statistical package for Social Science 9.0. The main results of this study were as follows. 1) Significant age difference was observed in preschooler's narrative structure. Older children produced structurally more complex stories containing setting, character, initiating event, attempt and consequence than younger children. 2) Significant age difference was observed in preschooler's narrative length. Older children used significantly more words and sentence when they produced stories than younger children.3) Preschooler'narrative structure was significantly correlated with narrative length.
This study recognizes the narrative of the movie as a semiotic system and proposes a structured storytelling analysis model through theoretical basis and empirical analysis. It classifies as 'Narrative 17 Process' which considers the narrative of successful 11 animations as a continuous process of formal structure. It extract the paradigmatic sub-narrative units(NU) centered on the act of the character in each process. The structural pattern of the story types are extracted by comparing and analyzing with 5 NU analysis elements presented in this study. As a result, the 4 story types were consistently classified by the SSD distance value. Therefore, this study propose a storytelling analysis model that can be effectively applied to scenarios and narrative composition stages of movie production.
Objectives : Recently in the field of medical education, the study of narrative has been gaining much attention. This study examines the Huangdineijing in terms of narrative studies. Methods : The chapter Shanggutianzhenlun, which is narratively sound in its composition, and the chapter Siqidiaoshendalun, whose narrative structure is simple but composed in a way that is difficult to understand were studied. Results : The narrative structure of Shanggutianzhenlun is interrogatory with a main character, making it appropriate for narrative study. However, the Siqidiaoshendalun arranges its content rather simply. Conclusions : The Shanggutianzhenlun needs to be converted into appropriate narrative terminology, while the Siqidiaoshendalun needs narrative supplementation using methods such as visual thinking and mind mapping.
Analysis of narrative texts has been regarded as academically and practically important, and has been made from various perspectives and methods. In this paper, the computational narrative analysis methodology from the perspective of information processing was examined. From the point of view of information processing, the creation and acceptance of narrative is a bidirectional coding process mediated by narrative text, and narrative text can be said to be a multi-layered structured code. In this paper, four methodologies that share this point of view - character network analysis, text mining and sentiment analysis, continuity analysis of event composition, and knowledge analysis of narrative agents - were examined together with cases. Through this, the mechanism and possibility of computational methodology in narrative analysis were confirmed. In conclusion, the significance and side effects of computational narrative analysis were examined, and the necessity of designing a human-computer collaboration model based on the consilience of the humanities and science/technology was discussed. Based on this model, it was argued that aesthetically creative, ethically good, politically progressive, and cognitively sophisticated narratives could be made more effectively.
A narrative structure is essential for a story generator to create a story plot. In digital storytelling system, a narrative structure can be generally designed as a tree or a graph, and the story generator in the digital storytelling system creates continuous story plots based on the narrative structure. When a narrative structure is designed with a tree or a graph, it is hard for the story generator to create various kinds of story-plots due to the inflexible nature of a tree or graph structure. It may result in degrading the quality of story-plots to provide similar story-plot to various kind of user. In this paper, we proposed an approach to create a story-plot based on association analysis of data mining to overcome the disadvantage. In detail, we defined a narrative structure which consists of narrative patterns, and then implemented a story generator which creates a story-plot using the proposed narrative structure. As a result, we confirmed that implemented story generator was able to create a story-plot according to understanding level of user in case study.
The purpose of this study was to survey the problem of teachers' narrative reporting of children's science learning in elementary school report cards. For the purposes of this study, a questionnaire, comprised of 6 questions and an analysis tool (Cronbach's $\alpha=.70$) were developed to categorize the answers. The survey was conducted by 53 teachers, who are currently taking 5th ade in elementary school, and the results are as follows: First, they interpreted the same content of report cards in a variety of different ways. Second, they exhibited a number of different principles and criteria in terms of preparing the content of narrative report cards. Third, they experienced difficulties in preparing narrative report cards on science teaming which required explanation of complete processes. Fourth, most teachers surveyed answered that the content of their narrative reports on science learning did not communicate specifically the students' achievement and further studies. Fifth, the activities related to preparing the content of the science learning on narrative reports was widely perceived to be useless for teachers' professional development. Finally, teachers made a number of alternative proposals to overcome the current, perceived problems of teachers' narrative reporting for children's science learning in report cards. Based on the results of this analysis, alternative forms and content of narrative reports on science learning were discussed.
The aim of this study is to propose the introduction of narrative description as an improvement to describing archives, thereby enhancing the user experience of archives. To achieve this, the study identifies the specific forms and positions of narrative elements in archives and analyzes the interaction between archival description and narrative elements. It also examines cases where narrative description has been applied in digital archives to analyze their purposes and identify the various types and characteristics of narrative description for the improvement of description and considering factors that should be taken into account when implementing narrative descriptions. Theoretical research explores the concept and role of narrative and analyzes how it is manifested in describing archives. Case studies investigate the types of narrative description in digital archives and explore their roles. Narrative description emphasizes that it can facilitate implementation by establishing the narrative identity of archivists as context constructors, conducting extensive and deep research on records, and planning collaborations with experts. However, due to the lack of concrete implementation plans for narrative description in the practical archives, further research is needed to develop models of narrative description and prepare various examples of narrative applications.

In this paper, two modes of thought are assumed, which are known as the paradigmatic and the narrative mode of thought by Bruner(1985; 1986). The former leads to well-formed argument, but the latter to good story; each providing distinctive ways of ordering experience, of constructing reality. Though the two are complementary, but not reducible to one another. However modern schooling has focused on the paradigmatic mode. It has come to its peak in science education. Recently some educators began to gaze at the narrative mode in other humanities, but not science. Narrative is commonly considered to be foreign to science. But many scientists are convinced that modern science depends on speculation much more than observation. The speculation is conducted by intrapersonal or interpersonal narrative, which was called "science-making" by Bruner(1996). The purpose of this paper is to introduce the narrative mode of thought compared to paradigmatic mode as the new concepts and to discuss its implications on the science education. Three implications will be suggested. The first holds that science class should improve student's narrative sensibility throughout the live science-making. The second holds that the narrative mode of thought should be used with the support of the paradigmatic mode in science classroom. Exactly narrative interpretations are adjuncts to scientific explanations. The third holds that the evaluation method should be developed for the narrative work in science education.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of the fashion narrative from the commercial and artistic viewpoints by identifying and evaluating the attributes of the fashion narrative and analyzing the fashion narrative focusing on various cases according to fashion media. Louis Vuitton, a brand of the Louis Vuitton $Mo{\ddot{e}}t$ Hennessy (LVMH) group that operates the entire fashion community platform, is recognized as an influential luxury company with enormous capital and capabilities. This study targeted Louis Vuitton to examine the fashion narrative. The common results of Louis Vuitton's fashion narrative according to the communication platform are as follows. First, it emphasizes well-designed craftsmanship and artistry to convey the value and meaning of the brand. Second, it expresses the lifestyle of the bourgeoisie using traveling for finding life purpose, nature, and freedom as common denominators. Louis Vuitton connects, shares, and engages with customers by crossing the communication platform and trying multi-sensory changes based on the fashion narrative of the 'artification' message encompassing craftsmanship, innovation, and travel. The fashion narrative of Louis Vuitton applies tools (e.g., design, direction, stage, and props) differently according to the nature of media. In other words, the fashion narrative in the form of transmedia storytelling is a marketing communication strategy that indicates the representation means and direction of a brand's goals by remediating the brand narrative in various ways through the communication platform.
