Parametric investigation of the polyol process for the preparation of carbon supported Pt nano particles as catalysts for fuel cells was carried out. It was found that the concentration of glycolate anion, which is a function of pH, plays an important role in controlling Pt particle size and loading on carbon. It was observed that Pt loading decreased with increasing alkalinity of the solution. As evidenced by zeta potential measurement, this was mainly due to poor adsorption or repulsive forces between the metal colloids and the supports. In order to modify the conventional polyol process, the effect of the gas purging conditions on the characteristics of Pt/C was examined. By the optimization of the gas environment during the reaction, it was possible to obtain high loading of 39.5wt% with a 2.8 nm size of Pt particle. From the single cell test, it was found that operating in ambient $O_{2}$ at 70oC can deliver high performance of more than 0.6 V at 1.44 A $cm^{-2}$.
Spray pyrolysis has been found as an excellent method for the preparation of mesoporous barium sulfate at higher temperature. Ethylene glycol, a reducing agent, and solvents had good inhibition effect for the preparation of $BaSO_4$ nano particles. The $BaSO_4$ solution was sprayed at 500 & 800 ${^{\circ}C}$ using different solvents such as methanol, ethanol, propanol and n-butyl alcohol. $N_2$ adsorption-desorption isotherm revealed that $BaSO_4$ is micropore free, possessing narrow mesopores size distribution and high BET surface areas of 72.52 $m^2\;g^{-1}$ at 800 ${^{\circ}C}$ using propanol as an additive. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicates that the morphology of $BaSO_4$ nano material shows uniform shell like particles. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) proved that the resulting BaSO4 nano particles were uniform in size and the average particle size was 4-8 nm. The surface functionality and ethylene glycol peaks were assessed by Fourier transform infrared resonance (FTIR) spectroscopy. Low intensity ethylene glycol specific absorption peak was observed in propanol which proved that propanol had good inhibition effect on the structural morphology of nano particles.
Gold nanoparticles have recognized a promising drug carriers in many diseases. These nanoparticles could carry anti-inflammatory drugs in the case of muscle injury and for fatigue relief. On the other hand, specific surface of this kind of nanoparticles could be critical in amount of drug they could carry. Therefore, in this study, we explore different methodology and influencing parameters on the specific surface of gold nanoparticles. After specifying the main parameters, different machine learning and artificial neural network are adopted to model the effects of different parameters. Furthermore, response surface methodology is utilized to obtain a quadrilateral relationship between different parameters and specific surface. The results indicate that concentration of the gold salt solution is the most important parameter in increasing the size of gold nanoparticle and, as a consequence, increasing specific surface. Moreover, the ability of gold nanoparticles in prolonging retention of the drugs is discussed in detail.
In general after the etching process, waste etching solution contains metals. (ex. Nickel (Ni), Chromium (Cr), Zinc (Zn), etc.) In this work, we proposed a recycling process for waste etching solution and refining from waste liquid contained nickel to make nickel metal nano powder. At first, the neutralization agent was experimentally selected through the hydrolysis of impurities such as iron by adjusting the pH. We selected sodium hydroxide solution as a neutralizing agent, and removed impurities such as iron by pH = 4. And then, metal ions (ex. Manganese (Mn) and Zinc (Zn), etc.) remain as impurities were refined by D2EHPA (Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid). The nickel powders were synthesized by liquid phase reduction method with hydrazine ($N_2H_4$) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The resulting nickel chloride solution and nickel metal powder has high purity ( > 99%). The purity of nickel chloride solution and nickel nano powders were measured by EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic) titration method with ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer). FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy) was used to investigate the morphology, particle size and crystal structure of the nickel metal nano powder. The structural properties of the nickel nano powder were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy).
The purpose of this study is the fabrication of nano-sized Fe-Co alloy powders with soft magnetic properties by the slurry mixing and hydrogen reduction (SMHR) process. $FeCl_2$0 and $CoCl_2$ powders with 99.9% purities were used for synthesizing nanostructured Fe-Co alloy powder. Nano-sized Fe-Co alloy powders were successfully fabricated using SMHR, which was performed at 50$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in H$_2$ atmosphere. The fabricated Fe-Co alloy powders showed $\alpha$' phase (ordered body centered cubic) with the average particle size of 45 nm. The SMHR powder exhibited low coercivity force of 32.5 Oe and saturation magnetization of 214 emu/g.

This study was attended to demonstrate synthesis of silver nanoparticles stabilized with polymer and their applicability to printed electronics. Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by reduction of silver nitrate in aqueous solution in the presence of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as a stabilizer. The ink used here is composed of 50 wt% Ag NP, 15 wt% humectant and then were printed on polyimide film. Particle deposit morphologies were controlled by varying the ink compositions. Printed silver patterns and dots were cured on a convection oven in air at $300^{\circ}C$ for 60 min. The printed patterns show good shape definition and the resistivity of the printed films is about $5{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$.
Since cerium carbonate becomes porous cerium oxide by releasing carbon dioxide and vapour steam during calcination of cerium carbonate, nano size cerium oxide can be obtained by milling calcined cerium carbonate. Therefore cerium carbonate [$Ce_2(CO_3)3{\cdot}XH_2O$] is used generally for the preparation of nano size cerium oxide. In order to obtain nano size cerium oxide from cerium carbonate prepared by reactive crystallization of cerium chloride solution and ammonium bicarnonate solution, the effects of experimental variables in the milling and calcination of cerium carbonate, such as calcination temperature, milling time, rpm of planetary mill, amount of dispersant and ball size for milling on the size of cerium oxide was investigated in this study. Cerium oxide prepared with the conditions of calcination temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, milling time of 5 hour was 160nm mean particle size.
Studies on the effect of the wall-ion, wall-water, water-ion and ion-ion interaction on properties of water and ions in nano-channels have been performed through the use of different kinds of ions or different models of potential energy between wall-ion or wall-water. On this paper, we address the effect of water-wall interaction potential on the properties of confined aqueous solution by using the molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. As the interaction potential energies between water and wall we employed the models of the Weeks-Chandler-Andersen (WCA) and Lennard-Jones (LJ). On the MD simulations, 680 water molecules and 20 ions are included between uniformly charged plates that are separated by 2.6 nm. The water molecules are modeled by using the rigid SPC/E model (simple point charge/Extended) and the ions by the charged Lennard-Jones particle model. We compared the results obtained by using WCA potential with those by LJ potential. We also compared the results (e.g. ion density and electro-static potential distributions) in each of the above cases with those provided by solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation.
