The Effect of CTAB on the Citrate Sol-gel Process for the Synthesis of Sodium Beta-Alumina Nano-Powders

  • Sodium beta-alumina (SBA) nano-powders were synthesized by the citrate sol-gel process, and the effects of the cationic surfactant n-cetyltrimethylammonium bromide surfactant (CTAB) were investigated. The structure and morphology of the nano-powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) techniques, respectively. The effects of CTAB on the citrate sol-gel process and the SBA formation were investigated by thermo gravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The conductivity of ceramic pellets of SBA was measured by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed that the CTAB inhibited the agglomeration of SBA powders effectively and consequently decreased the crystallization temperature of SBA, about $150^{\circ}C$ lower than that of the sample without CTAB. The measured conductivity of SBA was $1.21{\times}10^{-2}S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$ at $300^{\circ}C$.

나노미터 크기의 미세구조물을 제작하기 위한 공정기술 개발 (Development of process technique of the alumina membrane with nano-sized pore array)

  • We fabricated an alumina membrane with nano-sized pore array by anodic oxidation using the thin film aluminum deposited on silicon wafer. It is important that the sample prepared by metal deposition method has a flat aluminum surface and a good adhesion between the silicon wafer and the thin film aluminum. The oxidation time was controlled by observation of current variation. The nano-sized pores with diameter of $60{\sim}120nm$ was obtained by $40{\sim}80$ voltage. The pore widening process was employed for obtaining the flat surface because the pores of the alumina membrane prepared by the fixed voltage method shows the structure of rough surface. Finally, the sample was immersed to the phosphoric acid with 0.1M concentration to etching the barrier layer. The sample will be applied to electronic sensors, field emission display, and template for nano- structure.

  • The characteristics of boiling heat transfer and critical heat flux (CHF) behavior of nano-fluids were studied by using various sized silver and alumina nanoparticles. The diameter of nanoparticles was from 2 nm to 250 nm for silver and from 20nm to 40nm for alumina. Pool boiling characteristics and CHF enhancement of nano-fluids with different sized nanoparticles were compared with those of pure water and each nano-fluids. The experiment was performed at atmospheric pressure and the temperature of the pool was maintained constantly by using a flat immersed heater. The concentration of nano-fluids was uniform in all experiments as 0.01g/liter. The results showed that the measured boiling curves were shifted to the right. It demonstrated that the occurrence of nucleate boiling regime in nano-fluids retarded, compared with that of pure water. Also, in nano-fluids, the boiling curves showed that CHF of nano-fluids is significantly enhanced and represented the effect of particle size on boiling characteristics.

나노 기공성 알루미나의 생성과 화학적 용해 거동 (Formation and Chemical Dissolution Behaviors of Nano Porous Alumina)

  • For an application as templates of high performance with proper pore size and shape, porous anodic alumina films were prepared by anodization in oxalic acid, and formation behaviors of anodic alumina layer as well as dissolution process in acid solution have been investigated. The surface characteristics on anodic alumina layer were shown to be dependent on the fabrication parameters for anodization. For the dissolution behaviors of anodic alumina, the thickness of the barrier-type alumina layer decreased linearly with the rate of 0.98 nm/min in $H_3PO_4$ solution at $30^{\circ}C$. The changes of the anodic alumina layers were analyzed by SEM and TEM.

용융 열처리한 PMMA/Alumina 복합체의 기계 특성 (Mechanical Properties of PMMA / Alumina Composites Fused by Heat Treatment)

  • The PMMA composited material mixed with alumina studied to find the optimal condition, the adequate ratio of mixing, for the associated mechanical properties such as anti-corrosive, weatherproof performance. The 80% of hardness and 52% of scratch coefficient improved according to increasing ratio of alumina, which is mostly 3 times higher than that of pure PMMA, on other hand 16% of tensile strength and 35% of flexural strength has lost while alumina was adding in. The most proper ratio, having the best availability in substantial production, of composite between pure PMMA and alumina is determined as 93 wt. % vs 7 wt. %. Results of related five properties had estimated by using of a pentagram.

잉크젯 프린팅 공정에 의한 유전체 후막의 제조 및 특성 (Structure and Properties of Polymer Infiltrated Alumina Thick film via Inkjet Printing Process)

  • We have successfully fabricated the alumina thick films using inkjet printing processes without a high temperature sintering process. Alumina suspension as dielectric ink was formulated by combining nano-sized alumina powders with an anionic polymer dispersant in formamide/water as co-solvent. The thickness of the printed alumina thick film was measured at around 5 um by field emission scanning electron microscope. The calculated packing density of 68.5 % from the printed alumina thick film was much higher than the same films fabricated by conventional casting or dip coating processes. Q factor of the dielectrics thick film infiltrated with cyanate ester resin was evaluated by impedance analyzer.

While the oxalic acid with 0.2 M was used for low voltage anodization under 100 V, the chromic acid with 0.1 M was used for high voltage anodization over 100 V. The nano-sized pores with diameter of $60\~120$ nm was obtained by low voltage anodization of $40\~80$ V and those of $200\~300$ nm was obtained by high voltage anodization of $140\~200$ V. The pore widening process was employed for obtaining the one-channel with flat surface because the pores of the alumina membrane prepared by the fixed voltage method shows the structure of two-channel with rough surface. Finally, the sample was immersed to the phosphoric acid with 0.1 M concentration to etching the barrier layer.

Improvement of output coupling efficiency of organic light emitting device by using porous anodic alumina

  • Porous anodic alumina(PAA) which has arrays of nano size holes, was incorporated into organic light emitting devices. Porous anodic alumina on glass scattered the light generated from emitting layer and was decreased the waveguiding modes within the glass. An increase in the device coupling-out factor for the scattering structure is demonstrated.

알루미나 나노유체의 열전달 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental investigation of heat transfer characteristics of alumina nanofluid)

  • 나노유체란 유체 내에 금속 또는 비금속성 나노 크기의 입자를 분산시킨 것으로서 열전달율을 높이기 위해 다양한 곳에서 사용되어진다. 본 논문에서는 50 nm 크기의 알루미나를 증류수에 분산시켜 농도 및 유속에 따른 기본적인 열전달 특성을 알아보고자 하였다. 실험 결과 알루미나 나노유체의 농도가 증가할수록 평균 및 국소 열전달 계수가 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 또한 X/D=50~120 구간에서 6 Wt%의 나노유체의 국소 열전달 계수값이 증류수와 비교하였을 때 최대 37~46% 정도 높게 나타났다. 6 Wt% 농도에서 레이놀즈수가 1100~1300일 때 평균 열전달 계수가 증류수에 비해 큰 폭으로 증가함을 확인하였다.

Synthesis and Densification of Nanostructured $Al_2O_3-(Zro_2+3%Mol\;Y_2O_3)$ Bioceramics by High-Frequency Induction Heat Sintering

  • Nanostructured Alumina - 20 vol% 3YSZ composites powder were synthesized by wet-milling technique. The starting materials were a mixture of Alumina micro-powder and 3YSZ nano-powders. Nano-crystalline grains were obtained after 24 h milling time. The nano-structured powder compacts were then processed to full density at different temperatures by high-frequency induction heat sintering (HFIHS). Effects of temperature on the mechanical and microstructure properties have been studied. $Al_2O_3-3YSZ$ composites with higher mechanical properties and small grain size were successfully developed at relatively low temperatures through this technique.
