  • This is a basic research for improving soft magnetic property of Fe based nano crystalline alloy powder core. The main study is done around characteristics of permeability, core loss, and DC bias depending on amount of insulation coating agent and particle size. First, $Fe_{73.5}Si_{13.5}B_9Nb_3Cu_1$ amorphous alloy ribbon was fabricated by using the planar flow casting (PFC) device. Then, heat treatment and ball milling were done to obtain alloy powder. The amount of polyether imide (PEI) added to it was varied by 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 2.5 wt% to have compression molding into $16ton/cm^2$. After going through crystalline heat treatment, the made toroidal nano crystalline powder core ($OD12.7mm^*ID7.62mm^*H4.75mm$) had smaller permeability as amount of insulation coating agent decreases. However, it was found out that core loss and DC bias characteristics have been improved. The reason for this results were expected to be because green density of power core decreases as amorphous alloy powder particles become smaller as amount of alloy powder insulation coating agent increases, it was determined that 1 wt% of insulation coating agent is appropriate. Also, for powder core made based on alloy powder size with amount of insulation coating agent fixed at 1 wt%, effective permeability and core loss were outstanding as particle size became bigger. However, characteristics of DC bias became worse as applied DC field increases. This is expected to be due to insulation effect, residual pores, or molding density of powder core resulting from thickness of coating on surface of alloy powder.

  • Magnetic fluid is a very stable colloid that is attracted by magnetic force as wholly. The magnetic fluids is composed with 10 nm magnetic materials such as magnetite, iron etc., which is dispersed homogeneously in solvent by coating surfactant on their surface. Also this colloid is not separated into magnetic particles and solvent even under magnetic field, centrifugal force, gravity. Due to these properties, the magnetic fluids is used in high vacuum seal, exclusion seal, damper, etc. I would like to introduce the specific properties and applications of the magnetic fluids.

  • An oil-in-water solvent evaporation method was used to prepare the cyclosporin A (CyA)-loaded nanoparticles varying in poly (D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) polymer (RG 502H, RG 503H) and the amount of additive ethyl myristate (EM) or chitosan (CS). The particles were characterized for drug loading and entrapment efficiency by HPLC, surface morphology by scanning electron microscopy, particle size by dynamic light scattering and surface charge by Zetapotential. The results showed drug loadings ranging from 10.9% to 15.8% with high encapsulation efficiency (82.0-97.8%). SEM and DLS studies showed discrete and spherical particles with smooth surfaces and mean size ranging 257.6-721.7 nm. The additive EM or CS did not change the mean sizes of the nanoparticles, whereas by the coating effect of CS, the Zetapotential values of the CS-added nanoparticles were moved to the more positive direction as the amount of CS was increased. From the pharmacokinetic analysis, the nanoparticles formulations showed the higher bioavailability and MRT than $Neoral^{\circledR}$ While little adding effect of EM or CS was detected in pharmacokinetic profile when RG 503H was used as polymer carrier, more noticeable different pharmacokinetic behaviors could be observed in case of RC 502H. EM incorporation was found to elevate the $K_{el}$, whereas CS coating resulted in the decrease of F and $K_{el}$, which seems to be due to the function of CS as a barrier and a mucoadhesive coating.

  • The effect of Cu coating on the sensing properties of nano $SnO_2:Cu$ based sensors for the $CH_4$, $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas was studied. This work was focussed on investigating the change of sensitivity of nano $SnO_2:Cu$ based sensors for $CH_4$, $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas by Cu coating. Nano sized $SnO_2$ powders were prepared by solution reduction method using stannous chloride($SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$), hydrazine($N_2H_2$) and NaOH and subsequent heat treatment. XRD patterns showed that nano $SnO_2$ powders with rutile structure were grown with (110), (101), (211) dominant peak. The particle size of nano $SnO_2:Cu$ powders at 8 wt% Cu was about 50 nm. $SnO_2$ particles were found to contain many pores, according to SEM analysis. The sensitivity of nano $SnO_2:Cu$ based sensors was measured for 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air with that in target gases. The sensitivity for both $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gases was improved by Cu coating on the nano $SnO_2$ surface. The response time and recovery time of the $SnO_2:Cu$ gas sensors for the $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gases were 18~20 seconds, and 13~15 seconds, respectively.

  • In this study, we have investigated the surface morphology of hydroxyapatite (HA) coated Ti alloy surface using pulsed laser plating. The HA (tooth ash) films were grown by pulsed KrF excimer laser, film surfaces were analyzed for topology, chemical composition, crystal structure and electrochemical behavior. The Ti-6Al-4V alloy showed ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phase, Cp-Ti showed ${\alpha}$ phase and the HA coated surface showed HA and Ti alloy peaks. The HA coating layer was formed with $1-2{\mu}m$ droplets and grain-like particles, particles which were smaller than the HA target particle, and the composition of the HA coatings were composed of Ca and P. From the electrochemical test, the pitting potential (1580 mV) of HA coated Ti-6Al-4V alloy was higher than those of Cp-Ti (1060 mV) and HA coated Cp-Ti (1350 mV). The HA coated samples showed a lower current density than non-HA coated samples, whereas, the polarization resistance of HA coated samples showed a high value compared to non-HA coated samples.

  • Power quality has always been a concern of power engineers. Certainly an argument can be successfully made that most parts of power engineering have the ultimate objective to improve power quality. AC motors were widely used in industrial and domestic applications. Generally, AC motors were of two types: Induction and Synchronous motors. In motor many parameters like different load cycling, switching, working in hot weather and unbalances creates harmonics which creates major reasons for temperature rise of the motors. Due to high peak value of voltage, harmonics can weaken insulation in cables, windings and capacitors and different electronic components. Higher value of harmonics increase the motor current and decrease the power factor which will reduce the life time of the motor and increase the overall rating of all electrical equipments. Harmonics reduction of all the motors in India will save more power. Coating of windings of the motor with nano fillers will reduce the amount of harmonics in the motor. Based on the previous project works, actions were taken to use the enamel filled with various nano fillers for the coating of the windings of the different AC motors. Ball mill method was used to convert the micro particles of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2 and ZnO into nano particles. SEM, TEM and XRD were used to augment the particle size of the powder. The synthesized nano powders were mixed with the enamel by using ultrasonic vibrator. Then the enamel mixed with the nano fillers was coated to the windings of the several AC motors. Harmonics were measured in terms of various indices like THD, VHD, CHD and DIN by using Harmonic analyzer. There are many other measures and indices to describe power quality, but none is applicable in all cases and in many instances, these indices may hide more than they show. Sometimes power quality indices were used as a basis of comparison and standardization. The efficiency of the motors was increased by 5 – 10 %. The thermal withstanding capacity of the motor was increased by 5º to 15º C. The harmonics of the motors were reduced by 10 – 50%.

  • In this study, new shock absorbing system was proposed using silica gel particles according to the nano-technology. For the design and real application of the proposed damper, an experimental investigations are carried out using colloidal damper, which is statically loaded. The porous matrix is composed from silica gel(labyrinth architecture), coated by organo-silicones substances, in order to achieve a hydrophobic surface. Water is considered as associated lyophobic liquid. Reversible colloidal damper static test rig and the measuring technique of the static hysteresis were described. Iufluence of the water volume and particle diameters upon the reversible colloidal damper hysteresis was investigated. Also, influence of the relaxation time on the hysteresis of the damper was investigated. As a result, the proposed new shock absorbing damper is proved as an effective one, which can be replaced for the conventional hydraulic damper.

  • $LiMnBO_3$ was successfully synthesized by a solid-state reaction method both with and without a carbon coating. Adipic acid was used as source material for the carbon coating. $LiMnBO_3$ was composed of many small polycrystalline particles with a size of about 50 - 70 nm, which showed a very even particle morphology and highly ordered crystalline particulates. Whereas the carbon coated $LiMnBO_3$ was well covered by mat-like, fine material consisting of amorphous carbon derived from the carbonization of adipic acid during the synthetic process. Carbon coated cell exhibited improved and stable discharge capacity profile over the untreated. Two cells delivered an initial discharge capacity of 111 and 58 mAh/g for $LiMnBO_3$/C and $LiMnBO_3$, respectively. Carbon coating on the surface of the $LiMnBO_3$ drastically improved discharge capacity due to the improved electric conductivity in the $LiMnBO_3$ material.
