In this work, we performed a comparative study examining two coatings on Ti Gr.1 for use in fuel cell bipolar plates. The coatings consisted of carbon black as the conductor along with acrylic polymer and Ti Sol-Gel binder as the binder. Ti Sol-Gel that had precipitated as TiO2 in areas impregnated between carbon black gaps, thereby acting as a binder for carbon black and serving as a polymer coating. Neither of the coatings peeled off during the 90° bend test to check formability. The contact resistance of the TiO2 coating was found to be lower than that of the polymer binder coating. Moreover, due to coating shrinkage (denser) that occurred during the heat treatment process, the TiO2 binder coating showed almost the same level of corrosion resistance, as measured by potentiostatic and EIS tests, despite being thinner than the polymer coating. However, both the polymer binder coating and the TiO2 binder coating had many pores and irregularities internally (around 10 ~ 100 nm) and on the surface (0.1 ~ 2 ㎛). We considered that these pores and irregularities contributed to the lower corrosion resistance.

Thermally sprayed tungsten carbide-based powder coatings are being widely used for a variety of wear resistance applications. The coating deposited by high velocity processes such as high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying is known to provide improved wear resistant property. In this study, optimal coating process (OCP) is obtained by the study of coating properties such as surface hardness, porosity, surface roughness and microstructure of 9 coatings prepared by Taguchi program for 3 levels of four spray parameters. The Friction and wear behaviors of HVOF WC-CoCr coating prepared by OCP, electrolytic hard chrome (EHC) plating and Inconel718 (In718) are investigated by reciprocating sliding wear test at $25^{\circ}C$, $450^{\circ}C$. Friction coefficients (FC) of all of the 3 samples are decreased as increasing sliding surface temperature from $25^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. FC of WC-CoCr decreases as increasing the surface temperature from $0.33{\pm}0.02$ at $25^{\circ}C$ to $0.26{\pm}0.02$ at $450^{\circ}C$, showing the lowest FC among the 3 samples. Wear trace (WT) and wear depth (WD) of WC-CoCr are smaller than those of EHC and In718 both at $25^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$. These show that WC-CoCr is highly recommendable for protective coating on In718 and other metal components.

HVOF thermal spray coating of Co-alloy T800 is progressively replacing the classical hard coatings such as chrome plating because of the very toxic $Cr^{6+}$ ion known as carcinogen causing lung cancer. For the study of the possibility of replacing of chrome plating, the wear properties of HVOF Co-alloy T800 coatings are investigated using the reciprocating sliding tester both at room and at an elevated temperature of $1000^{\circ}F\;(538^{\circ}C)$. The possibility as durability improvement coating is studied for the application to the high speed spindles vulnerable to frictional heat and wear. Wear mechanisms at the reciprocating sliding wear test are studied for the application to the systems similar to the sliding test such as high speed spindles. Wear debris and frictional coefficients of T800 coatings both at room and at an elevated temperature of $1000^{\circ}F\;(538^{\circ}C)$ are drastically reduced compared to those of non-coated surface of parent substrate Inconel 718. This study shows that the coating is recommendable for the durability improvement coatings on the surfaces vulnerable to frictional heat. The sliding surfaces are weared by the mixed mechanisms such as oxidative wear, abrasion by the sliding ball slurry erosion by the mixture of solid particles and small drops of the melts and semi-melts of the attrited particles cavitation by the relative motions among the coating, sliding ball, the melts and semi-melts. and corrosive wear. The oxide particles and the melts and semi-melts play roles as solid and liquid lubricant reducing the wear and friction coefficient.

The dental orthodontic wire provides a good combination of strength, corrosion resistance and moderate cost. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of TiN and ZrN coating on corrosion resistance and physical property of orthodontic wire using various instruments. Wires(round type and rectangular type) were used, respectively, for experiment. Ion plating was carried out for wire using Ti and Zr coating materials with nitrogen gas. Ion plated surface of each specimen was observed with field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS), atomic force microscopy(AFM), vickers hardness tester, and electrochemical tester. The surface of TiN and ZrN coated wire was more smooth than that of other kinds of non-coated wire. TiN and ZrN coated surface showed higher hardness than that of non-coated surface. The corrosion potential of the TiN coated wire was comparatively high. The current density of TiN coated wire was smaller than that of non-coated wire in 0.9% NaCl solution. Pit nucleated at scratch of wire. The pitting corrosion resistance $|E_{pit}-E_{rep}|$ increased in the order of ZrN coated(300 mV), TiN coated(120 mV) and non-coated wire(0 mV).
Herein, we synthesized silica-coated chrome yellow particles having improved chemical resistance. The intermediate with a good dispersion stability was prepared and the chemical resistance of the final product was investigated. The effects of pH and temperature, as the main parameters influencing the formation of particles, the reduced particle size by homogenizer on the silica coating were investigated. The change in the particle morphology by temperature and pH was also studied. As the results, small and monodisperse particles were achieved at low pH and high temperature. Good silica coating was obtained when used reduced size of the particles by homogenizer. Furthermore, the sufficient silica coating by microencapsulation was obtained at 9~10 pH and the temperature above $90^{\circ}C$.

An Fe-Ni-Co based superalloy Incoloy 909 (Incoloy 909) has been used for gas turbine engine component material. This alloy is susceptible to high temperature oxidation and corrosion because of the absence of corrosion resistant Cr. For the improvement of durability of the component of Incoloy 909 aluminizing-chromate coating by pack cementation process has been investigated at relatively low temperature of about $550^{\circ}C$ to protect the surface microstructure and properties of Incoloy 909 substrate. As a previous study to aluminizing-chromate coating by pack cementation of Incoloy 909, the optimal aluminizing process has been investigated. The size effects of source Al powder and inert filler $Al_O_3$ powder and activator selection have been studied. And the dependence of coating growth rate on aluminizing temperature and time has also been studied. The optimal aluminizing process for the coating growth rate is that the mixing ratio of source Al powder, activator $NH_4Cl$ and filler $Al_O_3$ are 80%, 1% and 19% respectively at aluminizing temperature $552^{\circ}C$ and time 20 hours.
Anti-reflection film was coated by using spherical silica nano colloidal particles and fumed silica particles. Silica colloid sol was reserved between two inclined slide glasses by capillary force, and particles were stacked to form a film onto the substrate as the upper glass was sliding. The deposition processes were studied to enhance the wavelength dependency of the light transmittance and to control the effective refractive index of the film. Both of the spherical and fumed silica particles showed an enhancement of $4.0-4.4\%$ in light transmittance by one step coating. The dependence of the transmittance on wavelength was largely improved at the longer wavelength by partial coating of fumed particles on the film of spherical particles. The effective refractive index of the film was controlled by removing latex particles that were co-deposited with silica particles. Using this process the light reflectance from one side of the glass substrate could be reduced from $4.2\%$ to $0.6\%$ although zero reflectance was not achieved due to the agglomeration of the latex particles.
Anti-reflection film was coated by using spherical silica nano colloids. Silica colloid sol was reserved between two inclined slide glasses by capillary force, and particles were convectively stacked to form a film onto the substrate as the water evaporates. As the sliding speed increased, the thickness of the film decreased and the wavelength at the maximum transmittance decreased. The microstructure observed by SEM showed that silica particles were nearly close packed, which enabled the calculation of the effective refractive index of the film. The film thickness was measured by proffer and calculated from the wavelength of maximum transmittance and the effective refractive index. The effective refractive index of the film could be controlled by a subtle controlling of the coating speed and by mixing two different sized silica particles. When the 100 nm and 50 m particles were mixed at 4:1-5:1 volume ratio, the maximum transmittance of $95.2\%$ for one-sided coating was obtained. This is the one that has increased by $3.8\%$ compared to bare glass substrate, and shows that $99.0\%$ of transmittance or $1.0\%$ of reflectance can be achieved by the simple process if both sides of the substrate are coated.

In the modern days, a galvannealed sheet steel (GA) instead of a cold rolled steel sheet has been widely used as an alternative to extend the life of automotive body. Accordingly, the mechanical properties of GA for automobiles were taken into account and studied by comparing with the temperature variation on annealing in this study. To clarify the effect of surface features in the mechanical and frictional properties of GA, the several tests such as nanoindentation, victors hardness and nano scratch test were executed. The developed neural networks apply also to obtain reliable mechanical properties of the thin films. Load-displacement curve was computed by the analysis procedure and compared with experimental results. The frictional characteristics of coating layers in GA were verified though nano scratch test in this study. The friction coefficient of coating layers on the surface was obtained from the nano scratch. The variation of friction coefficient versus velocity and pressure was taken into consideration in this paper.
When the heat flux on the heating surface following changing heat condition in the boiling heat transfer system exceeds critical heat flux, the critical heat flux phenomenon is going over to immediately the film boiling area and then it is occurred the physical destruction phenomenon of various heat transfer systems. In order to maximize the safe operation and performance of the heat transfer system, it is essential to improve the CHF(Critical Heat Flux) of the system. Therefore, we have analysis the effect of improving CHF and characteristics of heat transfer following the nanoparticle coating thickness. As the results, copper nanocoating time are increased to CHF, and in case of nano-coatings are increased spray-deposited coating times more than in the fure water; copper nanopowder is increased up to 6.40%. The boiling heat transfer coefficients of the pure water are increased up to 5.79% respectively. Also, the contact angle is decreased and surface roughness is increased when nano-coating time is increasingly going up.
