Under General anesthesia with isoflurane, we insert a chicken's esophageal catheter into the near the left atrium. 1MHz radio wave was added to electrocardiogram electrodes of the esophagus, and the change of impedance (phase) was obtained by amplitude synchronous detection technique. At the same time, a thin tube is surgically inserted into the axillary artery to continuously measure blood pressure. The correlation between impedance (phase) and blood pressure was obtained. Both showed a very high correlation (R2=0.9665). It was also observed the waveform flowing from the left atrium into the left ventricle. When an individual infected with the avian influenza virus develops, the cytokine storms lead to hypotension earlier than the test for antigen-antibody reaction. In order to detect this, in the future, this impedance technique will be useful for screening individuals infected with avian influenza virus by measuring the blood pressure of chickens in cages in a non-contact manner using microwaves.

Many diverse methods have been developing in the field of biometric identification as human-friendliness has been emphasized in the intelligent system's area. One of emerging method is to use human footprint. Automated footprint-based person recognition was started by Nakajima et al.'s research but they showed relatively low recognition result by low spatial resolution of pressure sensor and standing posture. In this paper, we proposed a modified Nakajima's method to use walking footprint which could give more stable toe information than standing posture. Finally, we prove the usefulness of proposed method as 91.4tt recognition rate in 11 volunteers' test.

To investigate sliding friction and wear behaviors of WC-Co/WC-Co pairs containing different WC grain sizes, the ball-on-disc test in air were carried out, where WC grain sizes a $0.5\;{\mu}m$ (F.G.) and $1.5\;{\mu}m$ (C.G.). The wear volume of F.G. pin for F.G. pin/C.G. disc is larger than that of F.G. pin for F.G. pin/F.G. disc due to higher friction coefficient, and the surfaces after wear test are richer in oxygen compared to those before test. Furthermore, the wear debris, which is composed of nona-scale grain, after the wear test are remarkably richer in oxygen than to those before test.
The forming limit diagram (FLD) is the most commonly used tool for evaluating of sheet metal formability in the manufacturing field as well as the finite element analysis (FEA)-based design process. Determination of the forming limits is considerably influenced by testing/measuring machines, techniques and conditions. These influences may cause a large scatter in FLD from laboratory to laboratory. Scatter is especially true when the ‘position-dependent method’, as is specified in most national and international standards, is used. In the current study a new ‘time-dependent method’ is proposed, which is to determine the forming limit strains more accurately and reasonably when producing a FLD from experimental data. This method is based on continual strain measurement during the test. The results are compared to those from the existing standardized methods.
The current study performed formability analysis of a heat exchanger separator for an electric vehicle to apply a high-strength aluminum sheet based on parametric analysis. Mechanical properties for sheet metal forming simulation were evaluated by tensile test, bulge test, and Nakajima test. Two-stage crash forming was established by considering the mass production process using conventional low-strength aluminum sheets. In this study, FEM for the two-stage forming process was conducted to optimize the corner radius and height for improving the formability. In addition, the possibility of a one-stage forming process application was confirmed through FEM. The prototype of the sample was manufactured as FEM results to validate the parametric analysis. Finally, this result can provide a one-stage forming process design method using the high-strength aluminum sheet for weight reduction of a heat exchanger separator for an electric vehicle.
The current study aims to prove that high-speed forming has better formability than conventional low-speed forming. Experimentally, the quasi-static forming limit diagram was obtained by Nakajima test, and the dynamic forming limit diagram was measured by electrohydraulic forming. For the experiments, the LS-DYNA was used to create the optimal specimen for electrohydraulic forming. The strain measurement was performed using the ARGUS, and comparison of the forming limit diagrams confirmed that EHF showed better formability than quasi-static forming. Theoretically, the Marciniak-Kuczynski model was used to calculate the theoretical forming limit. Swift hardening function and Cowper Symonds model were applied to predict the forming limits in quasi-static and dynamic status numerically.
To detect whole ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in the activated sludge, group-specific primers targeting the 16S-rRNA gene of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria were used. The electrophoresis pattern of the PCR products seemed to produce a single band of approximately 1.0 k bp for the bacteria in activated sludge and Nitrosomonas europaea. No band was observed for nitrite-oxidizer Nitrobacter winogradskyi and heterotrophs such as Pseudomonas putida. Then direct measurement of the PCR product was made by fluorometry using the reagent Hoechist 33258, so that the fluorescent intensity was in proportional to the cell number of the sample up to 240. Total time required for the test was about 4 h including DNA extraction. The DNA fragments produced were cloned and their sequences showed high similarity to those of Nitrosomonas spp. This study showed the feasibility to detect ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and to esti-mate their population rapidly for the control of the nitrogen elimination process.
We have developed an electromagnetic generator to bury in subcutaneous area or abdominal cavity of the birds. As we can't use a solar battery, it is extremely difficult to supply a power for subcutaneous implantation such as biosensors under the skin due to the darkness environment. We are aiming to test the antigen-antibody reaction to confirm an avian influenza. One solution is a very small generator with the electromagnetic induction coil. We attached the developed coil to chickens and pheasants and recorded the electric potential generated as the chicken walked and the pheasant flew. The electric potential generated with physical simulator is equal to or exceeds the 7 V peak-to-peak at maximum by 560/min of flapping of wings. Even if we account for the junction voltage of the diode (200 mV), efficient charging of the double-layer capacitor is possible with the voltage doubler rectifier. If we increase the voltage, other problems arise, including the high-voltage insulation of the double-layer capacitor. For this reason, we believe the power generated to be sufficient for subcutaneous area of birds. The efficiency, magnetic 2 mm in length and coil 15mm in length, if axial direction is rectified, the magnetic flux density given to the coil could calculated to 7.1 % and generated power average 0.47mW. The improvements in size and wire insulation are expected in the future.
Low-Density Lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC) is the most important marker for the treatment of hyperlipidemia in NCEP-ATP III(National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult Treatment Panel III) guideline. Therefore, LDL cholesterol is pathologically meaningful, accurate measurement should be a top priority. Currently, LDLC is directly measured in most cases, but, the estimate is still used in mass health examination or screening test. This study is about the comparison of LDL-Cholesterol direct measurement with the estimate using various formula (Friedewald: [LDL-F=TC-HDL-TG/5], Nakajima: [LDL-N=TC-HDL-TG/4], Hattori: [LDL-H =0.94TC-0.94HDL-0.19TG], Puavilai: [LDL-P=TC-HDL-TG/6], Carvalho: [LDL-C=3(TC-HDL)/4]) for calculating more accurate value. We analyzed total cholesterol (TC), try-glyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), and LDLC levels of 210 subjects between June and November in 2011. Until now, the Friedewald formula is the most commonly used estimate for the LDLC. When Friedewald formula was applied, the correlation coefficient (r) was 0.940, showing high correlation. But, the result of the direct method was significantly different, compared with those of the Friedewald formula in triglyceride levels ${\geq}400mg/dL$(p<0.05). There was the highest correlation when we used LDL-P formula(r=0.947) in triglyceride levels <400 mg/dl. Also there was the lowest mean difference regardless of triglyceride level. Therefore, the study showed that TG/6 is more precise means of calculation than TG/5. On the other hand, the calculation of LDL-Cholesterol was underestimated, compared with direct measurement. It is necessary to have more data and modified Friedewald formula should be used for the accurate calculation.
A solar radiation model was used to investigate the UV radiation at the surface offing Sejong Station in West Antarctica. The results calculated by this model were compared with the values measured by UV-Biometer and UV-A meter during 1999-2000. In this study, the parameterization of solar radiative transfer process was based on Chou and Lee(1996). The total ozone amounts measured by Breve. Ozone Spectrophotometer and the aerosol amounts by Nakajima et al.(1996) was used as the input data of the solar radiative transfer model. And the surface albedo is assumed to be 0.20 in summer and 0.85 in winter. The sensitivity test of solar radiative transfer model was done with the variation of total ozone, aerosol amount, and surface albedo. When the cosine of solar zenith angle is 0.3, Erythemal UV-B radiation decreased 73% with the 200% increase of total ozone from 100 DU to 300 DU, but the decrease of UV-A radiation is about 1%. Also, for the same solar zenith angle, UV-A radiation was decreased 31.0% with the variation of aerosol optical thickness from 0.0 to 0.3 and Erythemal UV-B radiation was decreased only 6.1%. The increase of Erythemal W-B radiation with the variation of surface albedo was twice that of UV-A increase. The surface Erythemal UV-B and UV-A radiation calculated by solar raditive transfer model were compared with the measured values fer the relatively clear day at King Sejong Station in West Antarctica. The model calculated Erythemal UV-B radiation at the surface coincide well with the measured values except for cloudy days. But the difference between the model calculated UV-A radiation and the measured value at the surface was large because of cloud scattering effect. So, the cloud property data is needed to calculate the UV radiation more exactly at King Sejong Station in West Antarctica.
