  • This study aims at the decision of geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydrograph(GIUH) model parameter fore the ungaged or the data deficiented Basin, to analyze rainfall runoff relation in river basin by applying queueing theory with geomorphologic factors. The concept of GIUH model is based upon the principle of queueing theory of rain drops which may follow many possible routes during rainfall period within watershed system to ist outlet. Overland flow and stream flow can be simulated, respectively, by linear reservoir and linear channel conceptual models. Basically, the model is a mon-lineal and time variant hydrologic system model. The techniques of applying are adopted subarea method and mean-value method, the watershed is divided according to its stream number and order. To prove it to be applicable, the GIUH model is applied to the Wi-Stream basin of Nak-Dong River(Basin area; 475.53$\textrm{km}^2$), southen part of Korea. The simulated and the observed direct runoff hydrographs are compared with the peak discharge, times to peak and coefficients of efficiency, respectively, and the results show quite satisfactory. Therefore, th GIUH model can be extensively applied for the runoff analysis in the ungaged and the data deficiented basin.

  • The species diversity of plant communities is quantitatively measured, and can be affected by plant monitoring methods. This study experimentally compared the structure and diversity of plant communities living in five waterfront park areas in Nak-dong River using three plant survey methods (modified Whittaker, modified Daubenmire, and modified point-line intercept method). According to the diversity profile, the modified Whittaker method produced the highest species richness regardless of the location, but which method makes the highest diversity of dominant species varies depending on the location. The Beta diversity of the communites calculated from the modified Whittaker and the modified Daubenmire suggested that structures of plant communities in five locations were similar, while the Point-line interception method suggested that a small number of dominant species were shared between communities.

  • There are many technical problems, which can not be resolved by the concept of saturated soil mechanics. Unsaturated soils show an apparent cohesion due to negative pore pressure and relatively lower permeability due to entrapped air compared to saturated soils. The determination of engineering properties of soils with various moisture content is very important to evaluate shear strength and stability of natural and engineered soils. So various researches should be made on unsaturated soils. Especially, sandy soils are widely distributed near Nakdong river, one of the four rivers where Restoration Projects were carried out. Many structures such as dams, flood control facilities, detention facilities and reservoirs have been built in this area. In this study, unsaturated triaxial compressive tests were conducted on sands or silty sands at Nakdong river in order to provide their fundamental characteristics for design and construction of geotechnical structures. As a result of the tests, the maximum deviator stress increased as the confining stress and matric suction increased. The cohesion increased non-linearly as the matric suction increased, but the angle of internal friction was marginally changed.
