This study deals with the suppressing characteristics of alkali-silica reaction by ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS) in NaCl solution. NaCl contents used in the experiment ranges over 0%, 2.8% and 20%. Reactive aggregate used is Japanese andesite. Also, three GGBSs of about 4.000. 6, 000 and $8, 000cm^2/g$ were used in the experiment. The replacement proportions of portland cement by GGBSs were 40%. 60%, 70% and 80%. respectively. The specimens with GGBS were severely contracted according to the increasing replacement ratio in NaCl solution. The contraction rate increases according to the increasing in NaCl content. Also. it does with increasing the blaine fineness of GGRS. It is concluded that the suppression of alkali-silica reaction by GGBS in NaCl solution is complished by contraction of GGBS due to chloride ion induced chemical shrinkage.
An EPDM article was aged in air, distilled water, tap water, NaCl/$CaCl_2$ solution, and $CaCl_2/FeCl_3$ solution for 7 days. The aging temperature was $90^{\circ}C$. The samples aged in air and distilled water did not appear the whitening, those aged in tap water, NaCl/$CaCl_2$ solution, and $CaCl_2/FeCl_3$ solution showed the whitening. Soluble organic materials were analyzed using GC/MS to identify the whitening materials, surface morphology of the aged sample surface was examined using image analyzer and SEM, and elemental analysis of the materials accumulated on the sample surface was performed using EDX. Principal reason to cause whitening might be formation of metal salt of fatty acid by reaction between metal cation and fatty acid.
We investigated chloride ion effects on anodic dissolution of copper using potentiodynamic method, cyclic voltammtery, chronoamperometry and chronocoulometry. The anodic dissolution reaction of copper in NaCl solution under argon atmosphere is $Cu+2Cl^{-}{\rightleftharpoons}{CuCl_2}^{-}+e^-$ and chloride ion adsorption process in copper surface can be explained by Temkin isotherm.
The solubility of protein and phytate was measured at various pH's in distilled water and at various concentrations of NaCl, $CaCl_2\;and\;Na_2SO_3$ solutions, and then optimum condition for producing low phytate protein isolate from perilla flour was investigated. The protein solubility in water showed minimum at pH 4.0 and increased at pH higher or lower than 4.0, while phytate solubility was highest at pH 5.0 and decreased at pH higher or lower than 5.0. In NaCl solution, protein solubility was lowest between pH 3.0-4.0, while phytate solubility was high between pH 2.0-5.0 and abruptly decreased above PH 6.0. In $Na_2SO_3$ solution, protein solubility was lowest between pH 2.0-3.0 and phytate solubility showed maximum values between pH $5.0{\sim}6.0$, and it's solubility was low in 3% salt concentration at all pH ranges. In $CaCl_2$ solution, protein solubility in 3% salt concentration was relatively low at all pH ranges, and phytate solubility showed highest values between pH $2.0{\sim}3.0$ and abruptly decreased (1.0%) above pH 4.0. In order to make low phytate protein isolate, defatted perilla flour protein was extracted at pH9.0 and precipitated at pH 4.0 in 3% NaCl solution. The yield of low phytate protein isolate was 61.4% of total protein. This protein was found to contain 0.02% phytate by weight.
The cathodic reactions of lead anodic films formed in phosphoric acid, oxalic acid and sodium hydroxide solutions and the reactivities of Di-iso-butylnitrosoamine (DBNA) in sea water at $15\sim30^{\circ}C$ were studied by means of constant current-potential method. Besides, various contants and thermodynamic quantities obtained in the experiment were also do-scribed to explain the reactivities of protons that entered in the anodic film by being transferred across the metal-oxide interface. The electrode reactions of lead anodic film formed in sodium hydroxide solution in 60mM DBNA+0.5M NaCl did not occur because of complete insulator formed on anodic film. The values of $(\partial\triangle E_{H^+}/\partial T)_{i=const}$, estimated with Bead anodic films formed in phosphoric acid in 60mM DBNA+0.5M NaCl and 60mM $DBNA+6\%_{\circ}$ sea water were $-0.006\;V/^{\circ}C\;and\;-0.005\;V/^{\circ}C$, thus being nearly coincided, but the values of $(\partial E_o/\partial T)_{i=o}$ were $0.002\;V/^{\circ}C\;and\;-0.002\;V/^{\circ}C$, being completely inversed.
The aim of this study was to measure the suprathreshold taste intensity for NaCl, sucrose, citric acid, and quinine HCl in elderly Korean women using a whole-mouth, sip-and-spit procedure, employing the method of magnitude matching. The results were analysed in terms of aging, menopause, and salivary flow rate. 31 elderly women (mean age; $50.8{\pm}5.1$ years) and 30 young women (mean age; $25.1{\pm}1.71$ years) were included for the study. Subjects were instructed to give nonmodulus magnitude estimates to the intensities of five concentrations each of sucrose, NaCl, citric acid, and quinine HCl; distilled water; 6 loudness level of a 1,000-Hz tone, using the same 9-point intensity scale. Each of the 21 taste stimuli and 6 auditory stimuli are presented in random order twice. The auditory function is used to assess the absolute intensity function of the subject's taste system. The results were as follows; 1. Comparing to young women, elderly women showed decreased taste intensities for lower concentration solutions of NaCl and sucrose. However, other solutions didn't show any difference in taste intensities between young and elderly women. 2. There were not significant difference in perceived taste intensities for NaCl, sucrose, citric acid, and quinine HCl between menopause and pre-menopause women in elderly women group. 3. There were not significant difference in perceived taste intensities for NaCl, sucrose, and quinine HCl between low salivation women and high salivation women in elderly women group. 4. The low salivation women in elderly group showed higher taste intensity for low concentration citric acid than high salivation women.
In this paper, the uniaxial, triaxial compression tests and consolidation tests on the clay sample substituted initial pore water for pollutant were performed to evaluate the change in geotechnical properties of the contaminated clay. The contaminant transport analysis on embankment type landfill using the MT3D model was also performed to evaluate the extent of transport and diffusion. There was tendency that strength, compressibility and permeability has increased with the increase in the concentration of NaCl solution. The increase in the strength and compressibility of sample saturated with leachate was higher than samples saturated with NaCl solution, but in the permeability coefficient was lower. As the result of contaminant transport analysis, the predicted concentration was in high with the increase in the initial concentration of $Cl^-$ ion and increased in a non-linear form. The transportation distance calculated with use of regression equation between the distance from contaminant source and the concentration of $Cl^-$ ion was increased with the increase in the initial concentration.
Separation performance was measured for the disc plate and frame type reverse osmosis module using NaCl and sucrose solutions. An analysis of membrane performance was done following the equations proposed by Kimura-Sourirajan[8]. The membrane permeability was $2.17 \times 10^{-6}$(gmol/$cm^2$-sec-bar) and independent of operating pressure. The effect of concentration polarization for sucrose solution was higher than that of NaCl. Permeation flux for sucrose solution above 40 bar was decreased as operating pressure was increased. Solute rejection for NaCl solution was decreased, but that of sucrose was increased as operating pressure was increased.
