Ecological characteristics of Orthrias nudus from the Eoron Stream, Gangwon-do, Korea were investigated from January to December 2009. O. nudus inhabits mainly riffles of the upstream and mid-upstream stretches of Eoron Stream, which were composed of boulder and cobble bottoms. The current velocities in these habitats were 0.42~1.34 m/sec and depths were 15~46 cm. The sex ratio of female to male was 1 : 0.98. It is presumed that the spawning season is from April to June when water temperatures were $15{\sim}19.2^{\circ}C$. Sexually mature individuals appeared to be over one year of age. Frequency analysis of total length indicated that the group 58~99 mm in total length is represented by one-year-old individuals, and the group over 100 mm by two-year-old individuals. The average number of eggs in the ovaries was estimated as 4,119 per mature female. Stomach contents of O. nudus were composed of aquatic insects such as Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera and Diptera.
Ecological characteristics of Koreocobitis rotundicaudata was investigated in the mid-upper part of the Naerin stream in Hongcheon gun, Gangwon do, Korea from April 2006 to March 2007. It inhabited mostly on the cobble and pebble bottoms with water-current velocities of 0.3~0.8 m/sec and depths of 30~80 cm. The sex ratio of female to male was 1 : 0.78. It was presumed that the spawning season was from May to June with water temperatures $20.1{\sim}23.1^{\circ}C$. Sexually matured individuals appeared over the two years of age. Body length frequencies indicated that the 40~69 mm group is over one year old, the 70~109 mm over two years old, and 110~142 mm over three years old. The average number of eggs in the ovaries was 1,365. Main prey materials were Ephemeroptera and Chironomidae mostly.
This study surveyed the population ecology of Acheilognathus chankaensis (Pisces: Acheilognathinae) in the vicinity of the Churyeongcheon (Stream) and Seomjingang (River) in Jeonbuk, Korea, from February 2006 to May 2007. The survey found the habits mainly in the slow-flowing waters having sand, mud, and gravel bottoms. Age groups estimated by the standard length-frequency distribution of the population indicated that the one-year-olds were 30-46 mm long, the two-year-olds were 47-58 mm long, the three-year-olds were 59-68 mm long, and the four-year-olds were longer than 69 mm. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) and the ratio of ovipositor length/standard length were the highest in March (♀: 12.9%, ♂: 5.0%) and in April (46.3%), respectively. The ratio of mature egg diameters that were 1.6 mm was highest in May (13.2%). The comprehensive analysis of spawning characteristics showed that the spawning season was from March to June with water temperatures in 11.5-22.5℃, and the sex ratio of female:male was 1:1.13. The fecundity in the ovaries and the number of mature eggs were 318±174.5 (50~583) and 220±139.2 (50~406), respectively. The size of the mature eggs was 2.04±0.110 mm on the long axis and 1.55±0.100 mm on the short axis for the study period. Gut contents of A. chankaensis were mainly phytoplankton such as the genera Fragilaria, Synedra, Navicular, Cymbella (Bacillariophyceae), and Cosmarium (Chlorophyceae).
In order to determine the susceptible age of Enterobius vermicular is to anthelmintics and to observe the chronologie growth of female E. vermicularis in man, experimental infections were done. About 500 eggs were challenged to 19 volunteers. After 4, 8, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 and 35 days of infection, each case was treated by either mebendazole or pyrantel pamoate. On the 40th day of infection all cases including control were treated again to terminate the experimental infection and to evaluate the effect of previous treatment. Each case collected 3-day stools to harvest the expelled worms. The results could be summarized as follows: 1. The infection rates of females were in range of 0.6~13.1 % in control cases. Because the collected worms showed comparable growth and development by day, the worms were concluded to be derived from experimental infection. 2. Cases that were treated with mebendazole on 4, 8 and 16 days after infection expelled 37.5%, 2.5% and 67.5% of the number expelled by a control case on the 40th day. Cases treated thereafter expelled no worms on the 40th day. 3. Cases that were treated with pyrantcl pamoates on 4, 8, 16, 24, 28, 32 and 35 days, expelled 90.7%, 25%, 45.3%, 8%, 2.7%, 5% and 29.3% of the number collected from control cases in respect. 4. All the worms collected were females. The total body length increased consistently and comparably from the 20th day of infection. Those collected on the 20th day were 2.5~3.0 mm long with vagina, sac-like structure and strands of ovaries; 24 day-old worms may have short uterus, 28 day-old worms had long uterus without eggs, 32 day-old worms began to produce eggs, 35 day-old worms showed wide variations in egg deposit in uterus, and 40 day-old worms had uterus filled with eggs from vulva to anal levels. From the above results, it was inferred that the life span of female Enterobius vermicularis was longer than 40 days, and the developmental stages of worms younger than 16 days resisted considerably to both mebendazole and pyrantel pamoate.
This study investigated the ecological characteristics of Odontobutis platycephala at Jaho stream from January to December 2022. The riverbed structure of the species' habitat was rich in cobble and pebble. The water was deep, ranging from 22 to 153 cm, with an average of 64 cm, and the stream velocity was rapid at 0.89 (0.42-1.46) m/sec. The ratio of females to males was 1:1.02, and the total length of collected individuals ranged from 38 to 156 mm. The age according to the total length frequency distribution as of May indicated that the group with a total length of 38-69 mm was one year old, the group with 60-99 mm was two years old, the group with 100-139 mm was three years old, and the group 140-156 mm was four years or older. As a secondary gender characteristic, the genital papilla was cylindrical in females and cone-shaped with a pointed tip in males. Some females with a length ranging from 60 to 69 mm and all females 70 mm or longer were sexually mature. Some males with a length ranging from 70 to 79 mm and all males 80 mm or longer were sexually mature. The spawning season was from May to July, and the water temperature was between 17 ℃ and 28 ℃ during that period. The prosperous spawning season was June (24 ℃). The average number of eggs in the ovaries was 988 (284-2,722) per mature female, and the mature eggs were yellowish and spherical with a mean diameter of 1.46 (1.19-1.71) mm. The correlation between total length and body weight is BW=0.00000006TL3.12 with the constant a as 0.00000006 and the parameter b as 3.12. The mean condition factor (K) was 1.44 (0.96-2.26), and the slope was negative at -0.0007

The average number of eggs in the ovaries was 2,473 (883-4,955) per matured female, and the matured eggs were yellowish and spherical with a mean diameter of 1.42 (1.20-0.54) mm. The correlation between total length and weight was BW=0.0000006TL3.21 with the constant a as 0.0000006 and parameter b as 3.21. The condition factor (K) was 1.67 (1.18-2.43) on average, and the slope was 0.116.
This study was carried out to improve of effective culture system on development of IVM/IVF/IVC bovine embryos. The cumulus-oocyte-complexes (COCs) collected from Korean cattle ovaries harvested at a local abattoir were matured in 50 ${mu}ell$ of TCM199 supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and hormones (35 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ FSH, 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ LH, 1$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ estradiol 17 $\beta$ under paraffin oil at 39$^{\circ}C$ in a humidified atmosphere of 5% $CO_2$in air. At 24 hrs after culture, matured oocytes were fertilized in vitro for 22~24 hrs with motile semen in which obtained by centrifugation of a frozen thawed semen on Percoll-density gradients (45% vs. 90%) at 500 g for 20 min. The presumptive zygotes were divided into three experimental groups. Single egg (Group 1), 25 (Group 2) or 50 eggs (Group 3) were cultured on cumulus cell in 50 ${mu}ell$ TCM199 supplement with 10% FBS for 6~9 days after fertilization. In vitro developmental rates into the blastocysts in the groups 2 and 3 were significantly (P<0.05) higher than those of group 1 (37,27 vs. 6%, respectively). Cell number of blastocysts obtained in groups 2 and 3 at day 8 were significantly (P${mu}ell$) resulted in higher developmental competence and cell number of bovine blastocysts produced in vitro than those the culture of single embryos with cumulus cells.
