고전압 펄스 시스템 '천둥'을 이용한 N2, SF6 및 혼합기체에서의 전기 방전 현상 연구

  • 수 Tera Watt급의 가속기 및 펄스파워 시스템은 다수의 스위치를 사용하고 있으며, 이와 같은 가속기 및 시스템의 성능은 기체방전 스위치의 성능에 직접적으로 관련되어 있다. 일반적으로 이와 같은 기체방전, 액체방전 고출력 스위치는 다목적으로 많은 연구와 개발에 응용되고 있다. 예를 들어 천둥 펄스전자빔 발생장치는 12개의 Marx gap 및 3개의 100 kV 펄스충전 전기트리거 gap을 가지고 있다. 기체 방전 또는 액체 방전 펄스 충전 갭 스위치의 음극에 펄스 고전압이 인가되면 이로 인하여 음극에서 전자빔이 발생한다. 내부에는 전자빔이 양극과 충돌하는 순간 양극표면에 플라스마가 형성된다. 이와 같은 플라스마 sheath는 축 방향 이극관 안에서 양극충전 에서 음극으로 팽창하면서 전파하며, 또한 거의 동시에 음극표면에도 플라스마가 형성되어 음극에서 양극으로도 팽창하여 전파하게 된다. 이와 같은 펄스충전 고출력 갭 스위치 안에서 발생되는 방전 플라스마의 특성에 관한 갭 breakdown 과정에 대한 특성연구를 한다. 고출력스위치의 특성 조건으로는 방전전압, 방전시간, jitter 등이 있다. 본 연구에서는 최대전압 600 KV, 최대전류 88 KA, 펄스 폭 60 ns의 특성을 가지는 고전압펄스 시스템 '천둥'을 이용하여 방전 챔버에 고전압 펄스를 인가하고 N2와 SF6 혼합기체 종류와 압력에 따른 방전 현상을 연구하였다. 전극은 구리텅스텐 합금재질의 표준전극을 사용하였고, 전극 간격은 20 mm로 고정하였다. 방전 챔버 압력을 100 torr에서 4 기압까지 변화시켜가며 실험을 진행하였고, N2에 대한 SF6의 혼합비율을 0%~100%까지 변화시키며 실험을 진행하였다. 방전 챔버에는 C-dot probe와 B-dot probe를 설치하여 전압과 전류를 측정하였고, C-dot probe 와 B-dot probe는 각각 Northstar사의 10000:1 고전압 probe와 rogowiski coil을 이용하여 시준 하였다. 실험결과 방전전압은 압력이 증가함에 따라 증가하다가 2 기압 이상에서는 완만히 증가하는 경향을 보였고, SF6 혼합비율은 0~10%까지 급격히 증가하고, 그 이상의 혼합비율에서는 완만히 증가하였다. 방전개시시간은 혼합기체 압력에 따라 증가하며 1기압 이상에서는 급격히 증가 하였다. SF6 혼합비율에 따라서는 1 기압 조건까지는 큰 차이가 없었으나 2 기압부터는 급격히 증가하였다. 안정성을 나타내는 jitter는 SF6 100%일 때 가장 컸으나 혼합기체의 변화에 따른 큰 차이는 없었다.

  • Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), a major pathogen of cattle, is a well-characterized pestivirus which has been used as a good model virus for HCV. The RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) plays a key role in the RNA replication process, thus it has been targeted for antivirus drugs. We employed two-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (2D-QSAR) and molecular field analysis (MFA) to identify the molecular substructure requirements, and the particular characteristics resulted in increased inhibitory activity for the known series of compounds to act as effective BVDV inhibitors. The 2D-QSAR study provided the rationale concept for changes in the structure to have more potent analogs focused on the class of arylazoenamines, benzimidazoles, and acridine derivatives with an optimal subset of descriptors, which have significantly contributed to overall anti-BVDV activity. MFA represented the molecular patterns responsible for the actions of antiviral compound at their receptors. We conclude that the polarity and the polarizability of a molecule play a main role in the inhibitory activity of BVDV inhibitors in the QSAR modeling.

Combined X-ray CT-SPECT System with a CZT Detector

  • A single CdZnTe detector is tested for suitability in a prototype CT/ SPECT system designed to acquire both emission and transmission data. The detector has the size of 1${\times}$l-cm$^2$ with 4${\times}$4 1.5${\times}$l.5mm$^2$ pixellated anodes. Since the detector is smaller than imaged object, we translated it in an arc centered at the x-ray tube to image larger objects. Pulse counting electronics with very short shaping time (50 ns) are used to satisfy high photon rates in x-ray imaging, and response linearity up to 3${\times}$10$\^$5/ counts per second per detector element is achieved. The energy resolution of 122-keV gamma-ray is measured to be 14%. We have characterized the system performance by scanning a radiographic resolution phantom .and the Hoffman brain phantom. The spatial resolution of CT and SPECT are about 1 mm and 7 mm, respectively.

  • (A hybrid-type wireless infrared data communication module was fabricated by using the light emitting andabsorption diodes with the one-chip of integrated digital circuits. The light emitting diode with the peak spectrum of 850 nm was made from compound semiconductor material of AIGaAs and shows high speed signal transmission with the delay time of 60 nsec for the light direction angle of 30".   • In this paper, design, simulation, fabrication method, and measured results of a digital frequency discriminator(DFD) operating in E, F, and G band are introduced. We describe the direct conversion scheme(DCS) with microwave integrated-circuit(MIC) developed for the small-area and high-speed system. When the input signal is the pulse with a pulse width of 100 ns, accuracy of frequencies measured by the DFD has 1.335 MHz RMS at no noise and 2.64 MHz RMS at signal-to-noise(S/N) ratio within 3 dB in E, F, and G band, which nearly satisfy the specification of 2.5 MHz RMS.

Effects of Different Energy Substrates on Blastocyst Formation, Cell Number and ICM Proportion in Mouse Two Cell Embryos

  • The aim of this study was to investigate effect of different energy substrates on embryonic development of mouse embryos. Two cell embryos, recovered from ICR female mice (4 weeks old) at 44~52hrs after hCG injection (mated just after hCG injection), were cultured fur 72 hrs in the medium (MEM) supplemented with the three different energy substrates [glucose(G), pyruvate(P) and lactate(L)] and combinations (Control: 0 mM: group A: G 0.5; B: G 3.15; C: P 0.1; D: P 0.32; E: L 5.87; F: L 10.5; G: G0.5+P0.32+L10.5; H: G3.15+P0.1+L5.87; I: G0.5+P0.1+L5.87; J: G3.15+P0.32+L10.5). Blastocysts were stained differentially using PI and bisbenzimide. The 69.8% of the 2 cell embryos cultured in group F were developed the blastocysts. This was the highest (NS) than all other tested groups (44.2~62.8%). Blastocysts, cultured in the group E (60.4$\pm$26.9) and G (58.1$\pm$26.3), had significantly(p<0.05: group E vs. control, B, C, D; G vs. control, A, B, C, D) higher mean cell number compared with the other (42.6$\pm$25.8 ~ 55.2$\pm$31.3) and control (42.6$\pm$25.8) was at the basal level. The proportion of ICM (% ICM of total cells) in blastocysts cultured in group B (26.0$\pm$9.5%), C (29.6$\pm$22.8%) and J (26.0$\pm$11.8%) were significantly higher (p<0.05: control vs. group B, C, J: A vs. C, J; C vs. D, E, I) than those of other tested groups (15.0$\pm$10.6 ~ 23.8$\pm$ 12.9%) and control (15.0$\pm$10.6%) was at the basal level. These results showed that energy substrates supported the development of mouse 2 cell embryos, especially with greater embryo development in high dose of lactate added to media.

Scintillation Characteristics of CsI(Li) Single Crystals (CsI(Li) 단결정의 섬광특성)

  • CsI(Li) single crystals doped with 0.02, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mole% lithium as an activator were grown by Czochralski method. The lattice structure of grown CsI(Li) single crystal was bcc, its lattice constant was $4.568\;{\AA}$. The absorption edge of CsI(Li) single crystal was 245 nm, and the spectral range of luminescence was $300{\sim}600\;nm$, its maximum luminescence intensity appeared at 425 nm. The energy resolutions of CsI(Li) single crystal doped with 0.2 mole% lithium were 14.5% for $^{137}Cs$(662 keV), 11.4% for $^{54}Mn$(835 keV) and 17.7% and 7.9% for $^{22}Na$(511 keV and 1275 keV), respectively. The relation formula of $\gamma$-ray energy versus energy resolution was ln (FWHM%) = -0.893lnE + 8.456 and energy calibration formula was ${\log}E_r=1.455\;{\log}(ch.)-1.277$. The phosphorescence decay time of CsI(Li) crystal doped with 0.2 mole% lithium was 0.51 s at room temperature, and its time resolution measured by CFT(constant-fraction timing method) was 9.0 ns.

Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery in Patients 70 Years of Age and Older (70세 이상 고령 환자에서의 관상동맥우회술)

  • Background: There has been an increase in the number of elderly patients considered for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Recently, there were many satisfactory reports of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in old age due to the development in operative technique and postoperative management. We evaluated operative and follow-up results of patients 70 years of age and older compared to 60 years old. Material and Method: We retrospectively studied the cases of 74 consecutive patients 70 years or older (group A) who underwent a elective CABG from January 2000 to December 2003 and compared that of relatively young age group (group B, 60-69 years old). We compared preoperative characteristics, operation technique, postoperative results that effect outcome, also we investigated late mortality and cardiac events at follow-up periods. Result: Preoperative demographic and clinical characteristics of two groups were not different, except preoperative renal dysfunction(serum creatinine: $\geq$1.4 mg/dl) (group A 17, 23$\%$ vs group B 14, 9$\%$) (p=0.024). There was no difference of the mean number of distal anastomosis and the left ventricular ejection fraction in group A decreased significantly from 53.7$\pm$13$\%$ preoperatively to 49.9$\pm$ 12$\%$ postoperatively (p=0.02), but not changed in group B. There was no difference at operative mortality rate and postoperative major morbidity rate, but wound problem of saphenous vein harvest site was significantly higher in group A than group B (6.8$\%$ vs 0.7$\%$, p=0.02). The mean follow up duration was 24.3$\pm$13 months and the cumulative survival were 95.4$\%$ at 2 year and 79.9$\%$ at 4 year in group A and 95.4$\%$ at 2 year and 90.1$\%$ at 4 year in group B (p=ns). Conclusion: We conclude that age is not a factor of determination when we decide about operation because coronary artery bypass grafting in elderly more than 70 years old can be performed with a low mortality rate and acceptable morbidity rate.

Feedback Control of Cyclooxygenase-2 Expression by Prostaglandin E2 in Rheumatoid Synoviocytes

  • Objective: The role of prostaglandin $E_2$ (PGE2) in the etiopathogenesis of immune and inflammatory diseases has become the subject of recent debate. To determine the role of PGE2 in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), we tested the effect of exogenous PGE2 on the production of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) by rheumatoid synoviocytes. Methods: Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) were prepared from the synovial tissues of RA patients, and cultured in the presence of PGE2. The COX-2 mRNA and protein expression levels were determined by RT-PCR and Western blot analysis, respectively. The PGE2 receptor subtypes in the FLS were analyzed by RT-PCR. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) was used to measure the NF-${\kappa}B$ binding activity for COX-2 transcription. The in vivoeffect of PGE2 on the development of arthritis was also tested in collagen induced arthritis (CIA) animals. Results: PGE2 ($10^{-11}$ to $10^{-5}M$) dose-dependently inhibited the expression of COX-2 mRNA and the COX-2 protein stimulated with IL-$1{\beta}$, but not COX-1 mRNA. NS-398, a selective COX-2 inhibitor, displayed an additive effect on PGE2-induced COX-2 downregulation. The FLS predominantly expressed the PGE2 receptor (EP) 2 and EP4, which mediated the COX-2 suppression by PGE2. Treatment with anti-IL-10 monoclonal antibodies partially reversed the PGE2-induced suppression of COX-2 mRNA, suggesting that IL-10 may be involved in modulating COX-2 by PGE2. Experiments using an inducer and an inhibitor of cyclic AMP (cAMP) suggest that cAMP is the major intracellular signal that mediates the regulatory effect of PGE2 on COX-2 expression. EMSA revealed that PGE2 inhibited the binding of NF-${\kappa}B$ in the COX-2 promoter via a cAMP dependent pathway. In addition, a subcutaneous injection of PGE2 twice daily for 2 weeks significantly reduced the incidence and severity of CIA as well as the production of IgG antibodies to type II collagen. Conclusion: Our data suggest that overproduced PGE2 in the RA joints may function as an autocrine regulator of its own synthesis by inhibiting COX-2 production and may, in part, play an anti-inflammatory role in the arthritic joints.

Geology and Fracture Distribution in the Vicinities of the Cheonseong and Jeongjok Mountains (천성산과 정족산 일원의 지질과 단열 분포)

  • After detailed geological mapping, structural and fracture-density data were collected and analyzed in the vicinity of Cheonseong and Jeongjok Mts., Gyeongsangnam-do. A extensive dextral strike-slip fault (Beopgi Fault) Parallel to Yangsan and Dongrae Faults, a dextral-transtensional-NW fault, and a few intermittent faults have been found in the study area. Based on strike and frequency, fracture system has been divided into three sets such as NNE-trending J1 ($NS-40^{\circ}E$), WNW-trending J2 ($N50^{\circ}-80^{\circ}W$), and ENE-trending J3 ($N60^{\circ}-90^{\circ}E$). According to analysis of fracture density, it is revealed as follows: (a) Jl is the combination of Y-, P-, and R-shear fractures due to the dextral strike-slip of the Beopgi Fault. (b) J2 is the preexisted fracture zone conducting the intrusion of granite. Two tensional fractures dipping to NNE and SSW respectively have been induced by intrusion of granite and followed crustal uplift. (c) J3 is the tensional fracture developed between Yangsan and Dongrae Faults having NNE trend and dextral strike-slip sense. This study aims to reduce environmental impact and insure stability of underground facilities and tunnels.
