Comprehensive Vibration Assessment Program Measurement Test Plan for Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (신형경수로 1400 종합진동평가프로그램 측정시험 계획)

  • A reactor vessel internals comprehensive vibration assessment program(RVI CVAP) of an advanced power reactor 1400(APR1400) is being verified on the integrity of RVI for the design life of the plant by performing the non-prototype category-2 type on the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Guide(NRC RG) 1.20, for which consists of a vibration and stress analysis program, a limited vibration measurement program, an inspection program, and the correlation of these programs. The aim of this paper is to describe the plan for the vibration measurement, test and acceptance criteria portion, and documentation and results of the APR1400 RVI CVAP. We will conduct the limited vibration measurement program of the APR1400 RVI CVAP according to the measurement plan and the vibration measurement testing in this paper.

  • In accordance with U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulatory guide(NRC RG) 1.20(Rev.3), we are writing a comprehensive vibration assessment program(CVAP) design control document(DCD) and a technical report for U.S. NRC design certification(DC) of an Advanced Power Reactor 1400(APR1400) nuclear power plant(NPP). CVAP of an APR1400 NPP for U.S. NRC DC is classified as a non-prototype category 1 type. Therefore, CVAP DCD of reactor vessel internals(RVI) and steam generator internals(SGI) consist of analysis and full inspection program. However, piping system of primary and secondary system will be described as measurement program.

  • Environmental qualification is required for safety related electrical equipment under harsh environments located in nuclear power plants according to 10 CFR 50.49 and RG 1.89. As analog technology has recently been replaced by digital technology, NRC established RG 1.209 as a regulatory guideline for environmental qualification of safety related computer-based I&C system located in mild environments, requiring evaluation for electromagnetic compatibility, smoke exposure and type test for actual service conditions such as temperature and humidity. In this paper, the trend of environmental qualification for digital equipment is analyzed by comparing the environmental qualification requirements between digital and analog equipment.

Hydraulic and Structural Analysis for APR1400 Reactor Vessel Internals against Hydraulic Load Induced by Turbulence

  • The structural integrity assessment of APR1400 (Advanced Power Reactor 1400) reactor vessel internals has been being performed referring the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulatory guide 1.20 comprehensive vibration assessment program prior to commercial operation. The program is composed of a hydraulic and structural analysis, a vibration measurement, and an inspection. This paper describes the hydraulic and structural analysis on the reactor vessel internals due to hydraulic loads caused by the turbulence of reactor coolant. Three-dimensional models were built for the hydraulic and structural analysis and then hydraulic loads and structural responses were predicted for five analysis cases with CFX and ANSYS respectively. The structural responses show that the APR1400 reactor vessel internals have sufficient structural integrity in comparison with the acceptance criteria.

Development of a Measurement Tool for Radiation Safety Regulations (방사선안전규제 측정도구 개발)

  • The aim of the study was to develop an objective measurement tool, which could measure radiation safety regulations as an advanced research to draw evidentiary conclusions for the rationalization of radiation safety regulations as organizations continuously increase consumption of radiation material. The survey was based on the contents of Vol 1~21 of US NRC NUREG 1556 (Consolidated Guidance About Materials Licenses) and material from the Nuclear Safety Act which was based on radiation safety managers who are responsible for about 10% of the domestic registered organizations for radiation usage. As a result of the analysis, 3 main causes were extracted based on 20 questions. Each causes were named as Cause 1: 'Radioactive Safety Regulations Requirements', Cause 2: 'Compatibility of Actual Safety Regulation', and Cause 3: 'RI/RG radiation Source Classification' respectively. The dispersal explanations of each causes were explained in total of 60.417% by 40.140% of Cause 1, 13.721% of Cause 2, and Cause 3 for 6.556% If radiation safety regulation standards are drawn using the radiation safety regulation measurement tool, which is suggested in this study, this could be not only comply with international standards but also could be used to propose a practical standard to domestic radiation safety managers.

  • The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.20 provides guidance on the comprehensive vibration assessment program (CVAP) to be performed on reactor internals during preoperational and startup tests. The purpose of the program is to identify loads that could cause vibration in the reactor internals and to ensure that these vibrations do not affect their structural integrity. The structural vibrational analysis program involves creating finite element analysis models of the reactor internals and calculating their structural responses when subjected to vibration loads. The appropriateness of the structural analysis methodology must be demonstrated through benchmarks or any other reasonable means. Although existing structural analysis methodologies have been proven to be appropriate and are widely used, this paper presents the development of an improved new structural analysis methodology for APR1400 reactor internals using scaled model tests.

  • U.S. nuclear regulatory commission(NRC) regulatory guide(RG) 1.20 requires a comprehensive vibration assessment program(CVAP) for use in verifying the structural integrity of reactor vessel internals(RVI) for flow-induced vibrations prior to commercial operation. The CVAP program consist of vibration and fatigue analysis, a vibration measurement program, an inspection program, and a correlation of their results. One of the main purposes of the analysis program is to select measurement locations, however measurement locations can not be determined by only analysis results, therefore we developed selection criteria of measurement locations for advanced power reactor 1400(APR1400) RVI CVAP, It will be used to select measurement locations and instrument types for APR1400 RVI CVAP.

  • A reactor vessel internals comprehensive vibration assessment program (RVI CVAP) of an advanced power reactor 1400 (APR1400) is being performed as a non-prototype category-2 type of reactor based on the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide (NRC RG) 1.20. The aim of this paper is to present the results of structural response analysis and measuring locations of a upper guide structure (UGS) assembly of the APR1400 reactor. The analysis results of the UGS assembly results show that meet the specified integrity levels of the design acceptance criteria. Also, the measuring locations are set by the analysis results of the UGS assembly and selection criteria of measuring locations prior to this study. These analysis results and measuring locations will be used as fundamental materials to design a measurement system for the APR1400 RVI CVAP.

  • The revised U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission(NRC), Regulatory Guide(RG) 1.20, rev.3 requires the evaluation of the potential adverse effects from pressure fluctuations and vibrations on piping and components for the reactor coolant, steam, feedwater, and condensate systems. Detailed vibration analyses for the systems attached to the steam generator are very difficult, because these piping systems are very complicated. This paper suggests a screening method for the flow-induced vibration of acoustic resonances and pump-induced vibration of the piping systems attached to the steam generator in order to conduct the APR1400 comprehensive vibration assessment program. This paper seeks to address the areas such as potential vibration sources, and methods to prevent the occurrence of acoustic resonances and pump-induced vibration of piping systems attached to the steam generator, for conducting the APR1400 comprehensive vibration assessment program. The screening method in this paper will be used to estimate the flow-induced vibration of the piping systems attached to the steam generator for the APR1400.

A Study on Vibration Characteristics of Moisture Separator for APR1400 Steam Generator (APR1400 증기발생기 습분분리기 진동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • A Comprehensive Vibration Assessment Program (CVAP) for steam generator internals (SGI) of Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) is being performed in accordance with the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (U.S. NRC) Regulatory Guide 1.20 (RG 1.20) revision 3. This paper studies the vibration characteristics of moisture separator assembly as part of the vibration and stress analysis program for APR1400 SGI CVAP. The natural frequencies, mode shapes, and structural behavior of moisture separator assembly were investigated through modal analysis using finite element method and experimental measurement. Since the moisture separator consists of several items with complicated shape, an idealized shell model was used in the finite element analysis. Group of local modes caused by moisture separators and significant modes of shroud and separator support plate were identified. The results of this paper are to be utilized in the structural response analysis of moisture separator assembly.
