  • Noise predictive maximum likelihood(NPML) detector embeds noise prediction/whitening process in branch metric calculation of Viterbi detector and improves the reliability of branch metric computation. Therefore, PRML detector with a noise predictor achieves some performance improvement and has an advantage of low complexity. This thesis random sequences are applied to linear channel. In perpendicular magnetic recording density KP=2.5, NP(121)ML and NP(1221)ML detection system which is based on a noise predictive PR-equalized signal are evaluated by the Performance through a computing simulation. Therefore, NPML systems are implemented and are verified by VHDL.

  • The existin Berenger's PML(Perfectly Matched Layer) cannot absorb evanescent modes effectively generated in waveguides or periodic array structures. Although some absorbing boundary conditons(ABC) were introduced to absorp the evanescent modes, they did not show sufficient performance or could not be applied easily because of their much difference from Berengers PML. In this paper, NPML(New PML) is introduced to absorb the evanescent modes by splitting the conductivity and permittivity profile of the Berengers PML. The proposed NPML is certified as an ABC having enough performance for evanescent and propagating modes by analyzing the global error and the reflectivity of a waveguide.

  • For perpendicular magnetic recording channels, it is hard to expect improving the performance by using the PRML or NPML. Hence, we exploit LDPC code to improve the performance. In this paper, we examine a single message-passing detector/decoder matched to the combination of a perpendicular magnetic recording channel detector and an LDPC code decoder. We examine the performance of channel iteration with joint LDPC code on perpendicular magnetic recording channel, and simplify the complexity of the message-passing detector algorithm.

  • Noise predictive maximum likelihood(NPML) detector embeds noise predictions/ whitening process in branch metric calculation of Viterbi detector and improves the reliability of branch metric computation. Therefore, PRML detector with a noise predictor achieves some performance improvement and has an advantage of low complexity. This paper shows that NP(1221)ML system through noise predictive PR-equalized signal has less complexity and better performance than high order PR(12321)ML system in high density perpendicular magnetic recording. The simulation results are evaluated using (1) random sequence and (2) run length limited (1,7) sequence, and they are applied to linear channel and nonlinear channel with normalized linear density $1.0{\leq}K_p{\leq}3.0$.

  • For perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) channels, noise-predictive maximum likelihood (NPML) detection method has been used. But, it is hard to expect improving the performance when the bit density is increased. Hence, we exploit the coding methods which has good performance. In this paper, we show the performance of the recursive systematic convolutional (RSC) codes with turbo-equalization method with different channel bit densities. The noise model is 80% jitter noise and 20% AWGN.

  • Partial response maxim likelihood (PRML) is a powerful and indispensable detection scheme for perpendicular magnetic recording channels. The performance of PRML can be improved by incorporating a noise prediction scheme into branch metric computations of Viterbi algorithm (VA). However, the systems constructed by VA have shortcomings in the form of high complexity and cost. In this connection, a new simple detection scheme is proposed by exploiting the minimum run-length parameter d=1 of RLL code. The proposed detection scheme have a slicer instead of Viterbi detector and a noise predictor as a feedback filter. Therefore, to improve BER performance, the proposed detection scheme is extended to dual detection scheme for improving the BER performance. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a comparable performance to noise-predictive maximum likelihood (NPML) detector with less complexity when the partial response (PR) target is (1,2,1).

  • Longitudinal recording has been the cornerstone of all two generations of magnetic recording systems, FDD and HDD. In recent, perpendicular recording has received much attention as promising technology for future high-density recording system Research into signal processing techniques is paramount for the issued storage system and is indispensable like longitudinal recording systems. This paper focuses on the performance evaluation of the various detectors under perpendicular recording system. Parameters for improving the their performance are examined for some detectors. Detectors considered in this work are the partial response maximum likelihood (PRML), noise-predictive maximum likelihood (NPML), fixed delay tree search with decision feedback (FDTS/DF), dual decision feedback equalizer (DDFE) and multilevel decision feedback equalizer (MDFE). Their performances are analyzed in terms of mean squared error (MSE) and noise power spectra, and similarity between recording channel and partial response (PR) channel.

  • This paper describes a scheduling support system for a plant where the machine environment may be modeled as non-identical parallel machine lines (NPML). That is, there are a number of stages in series with various different-capability-machines at each stage. Arriving continuously are jobs with their specific due dates, processing times and candidate processing machines. We’ve developed a real-time scheduling module in conjunction with a supporting production information system which supplies necessary data to the module. This scheduling module is one of the 9 modules in this system, and is composed of both a scheduling interface and a production monitoring interface. This module allows users to generate many candidate schedules by selecting their business policies. The selective arguments which are available consist of allocation costs, batch sizes and machine selection intervals. They are now being implemented at a powder metallurgy plant.

  • Resistance to anticancer drugs is a major obstacle in the effective treatment of tumors. To understand the mechanisms responsible for multidrug resistance (MDR), a proteomic approach was used to identify proteins that were expressed in different levels by the adriamycinresistant human gastric cancer cell line, SGC7901/ADR, and its parental cell line, SGC7901. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and image analysis was used to determine which protein spots were expressed in different levels by the two cell lines. These spots were then partially identified using ESI-Q-TOF mass spectrometry, and the differential expressional levels of the partially identified proteins were then determined by western blot analysis and real-time RT-PCR. Additionally, the association of Nucleophosmin (NPM1), a protein that was highly expressed by SGC7901/ADR, with MDR was analyzed using siRNA. As a result of this study, well-resolved, reproducible 2-DE patterns of SGC7901/ADR and SGC7901 were established, and 16 proteins that may playa role in the development of thermo resistance were identified. Additionally, suppression of NPMl expression was found to enhance adriamycin chemosensitivity in SGC7901/ADR. These results provide a fundamental basis for the elucidation of the molecular mechanism of MDR, which may assist in the treatment of gastric cancer.
